shipped in 2-4 weeks, more than likely you will have to pay gst 10% as well.

  • does anyone know how to pay that 10% GST according to the new rule? do i need to pay to the custom before they release the item and how? whats would be the actual process?

    • +20

I wonder if customs yell out "You shall not pass" when they seize the blue rays?

      • I also wonder whats gonna happen to some freebees or a few dollar items that we usually get/buy from zapals,LITB,Dressily, etc. Are they gonna worth if the process is complicated?

        • Hopefully they won't charge if the items are not precious.

Amazon UK might stop delivering to Australian addresses.

According to today's e-mail from Amazon ALL logins will be redirected to the Australian website.
"from 1 July we will be redirecting Australian customers from our international Amazon sites to amazon.com.au where you can shop for products sold by Amazon US on the new Amazon Global Store, available today. "

        • +3

%$#!, I just remember I have unused balance on my Amazon US Gift Card.

        • +4

          @alvian:

I do wonder if Amazon will be kind enough to convert the USA currency balance to AU currency balance for those customers with USA currency on the current USA store.

        • +1

Thats so lame. What will it achieve except buying from a different overseas seller who is still waaaay cheaper than Australia.

        • +1

So pretty much products outside of Amazon US wont be included..

        • +2

@Noobist45: well it certainly achieved directing my vote to anyone but the liberal party.

Or ever buying anything, anything at all, from a Gerry Harvey.

Isn’t the retailer supposed to collect it and pay the AU government? I think that was one of the issues in that it’s impossible to police for companies with no AU presence and thus no real reason to follow our laws. For someone like Amazon that wants to be in the market locally it’s a different matter.

Or did they change the model?

    • +2

as amazon have said after july 1 you won’t be able to place orders for delivery to australia from their foreign sites, so …..they aren’t collecting gst …..they aren’t letting you place orders ….too much hassle …..so this parcel will arrive gst free as it’s in transit ….

  • Thanks OP. Ordered at half price, 10% GST don't matter

    • same here. i don't mind paying 10% extra but is the process complicated?

      • From what I understand is that you get your item the same time as you normally would, but then get a bill to pay by a certain date. There's no holding unless you have an outstanding bill.

        • Thanks. Sad part is that just for a few dollar worth of items we have to go through this hassle in which GST would be a few cents only. They should have reduced the ceiling (for example: may be above $100 items GST would apply) as it will not only be inconvenient for customers/sellers but also for the customs.

From my personal experiences buying goods from overseas:

If the overseas retailer hadn't collected GST on goods with values above the (existing) tax-free threshold of AU$1000, Australia Post or the Courier Company will send you an invoice for the GST, duty and levy, and only after you've paid will the goods be released for shipment. Here is an example letter.

If the overseas retailer had already collected GST then the goods will pass through Customs like goods below the threshold.

If this arrangement stays the same (but for the abolishment of the tax-free threshold), then the Gerry Harvey tax will cost more to administering than it will collect. Who bares the cost? Either the overseas retailers (start collecting GST on everything) or the carriers (send out customs notice with every parcel). I think they are still arguing, or perhaps Amazon has lost and is now throwing a tantrum? I haven't found out how the Productivity Commission has ruled.

  • Not 4k. Too blurry. Thought I was watching the Kardashians.

    • Unlikely to get done in 4K so if you liked the movies this will be the best you will get. They will look fine on a 4K tv

      • everything will be redone in 4k, its too much money not to re release it.

        • +2

Not if they have to redo all the CGI

        • @cyrax83:You really have no idea do you. They don't redo all the CGI for a 4K release…

        • @shamona1:

LoTR was filmed in 2k, so it would at best be a 2k upscale. Which I guess isn't the end of the world but won't be as good as a proper 4k.

Ofcourse they'd release the theatrical version first to milk it, then extended a few years later.

        • @cyrax83: As were lots of films. It all come down to how much care they put into it. Some 2K upscales can look better than a poorly done 4K transfer. HDR also makes a significant improvement regardless of if the source is 2K or 4K. A lot of current films are still rendered at 2K such as Coco for example, the recent visual feast from Pixar, but it does not prevent a good 4K release.

  • What is this new rule??

Are they stopping us from buying from Amazon.com and .uk or we can still buy from them but need to pay the GST on top of that??

    • you won’t be able to place orders for delivery to australia on amazon.com or amazon.uk ……you need to get drop shipped and then sent to australia …..the extra cost will kill many easy transactions due to cost.

      • What a load of absolute crap

And we live in a free country?

This starts July 1st?? So I have 1 month of buying on Amazon.com / .uk?

        • yep get that denon amp from amazon.de …..got one last year and saved $350 compared to local and that was after $100 postage express from germany.

ebay now have a global shipping program ..very expensive , uses a drop shipper ..it also kills shipping from the usa compared to usps economy with tracking ……but convenient for the seller as no customs papapers to fill out .

guess it’s ebay from chinese sellers or we use more aliexpress if they have what you want.

Well this is about 6 hours too long :p

    • +1

      no its not

  • +1

I have all these movies but not the extended editions… Is it worth it?

    • +1

      Definitely, it's a must have

    • Yes

    • Yes and no.

I have the LOTR extended movies and there’s some extra scenes that help fill out certain character’s stories. But on the whole I don’t think they add heaps of value.

So in my opinion, the extras are good to have but not vital.

    • I'd also for with "the extras are good to have but not vital.". Certainly their quality matches the released footage but I'd not rebuy unless a staggeringly good offer.

      • Cheers! I've seen them before in extended fashion but a long time ago, great films but yeah 65$ for a few extra scenes may be a pass for me.

    • The extended editions of LOTR are superb, by far the best version of those films. And the behind the scenes stuff is a great watch, too.

As for the Hobbit films… I haven't seen the extended versions of those, but they were way too long to begin with (should have been 1 movie, 2 max), so padding it out even further probably isn't going to help them. Unless somebody who has seen them can say if the extra stuff added into them is somehow transformative?

  • With Star Wars being a sell out franchise now thanka to Disney, I've gone back to LOTR as being my fave, thanks OP

  • Any 3D projector users with the 3D versions of these movies to comment on how effective they are compared to the 2D?

I love 3D on my 120 inch screen and prefer 3D versions of 'spectacle' movies if they're done well.

    • I saw 3d at the theatre and they looked great.

  • Pretty abysmal deal for just 3 LOTR films

  • Can also use the Amazon app promo for another £5 discount - brings it down to $56 AUD delivered.
