The wife complains that she likes that diamond necklace so much… The bank refused to grant the mortgage for the bigger house you really need… The ankle biters eats and spit out more poop than an entire centurion legion…

You know what is stopping you from getting all the things you need and, surely, deserve? A thick layer of steel. That's it! A dumb, fat, slab of varyingly arranged iron and carbon crystals. That's your enemy!

So you could do many things, like sitting in front of a computer and starting useless threads in the forum of a popular bargain website. Or buy discounted stuff that you don't really need, trying to compensate for the voids you cannot afford to fill.
OR! You can embrace the fine and vanishing art of welding. If you can't cut your enemy, join it!
Mastering the ability to weld is sure to improve greatly your employability AND your manliness.

Did I mention that this welder can CUT steel? Not that I would see use for that function to solve the aforementioned problems.
But hey! Once you will have grown a beard, after all that welding, maybe the old nail clipper will not be strong enough for your man's nails.

Weld, earn money and buy the stuff you need. Sure that's the best and quickest way to fulfill your wishes!

Is that a deal?
If you only need a welder for hobbyist or discontinuous use, then it looks like it is. If the specs are true it should hold its own against machines retailing for double the price.
Due diligence before posting the deal told me that the $399 starting price is the lowest currently available. 20% less from it makes it a pretty good deal for the specs.

Are the specs totally reliable? I hold my doubts. I am no welder by any means, but the quoted 10mm of steel cutting capacity, for example, looks optimistic to me in this price bracket. 4mm stick electrodes are also a respectable max size for this price range as far as I can see/recall.

Due diligence also saw me looking for reviews of this particular brand and the quality looks all right for a non-intensive usage. Would probably do ok even in some small workshops.

That should be all. Don't ask me info about welding and such. My father is/was an ok welder. I could only poke holes and waste electrodes.

wife complains that she likes that diamond necklace so much

They're never satisfied, my last girlfriend hated the pearl necklace I gave her.

    • Maybe next time you need to set your sights higher.

There is a six-year long whirlpool thread about the low quality, low reliability and shady business practices of AGR machinery AKA Edisons. This one is no different.

Story is, a gentleman called David Mills started selling cheap chinese power tools on ebay, very many broke down and he worked his hardest not to honor the warranties. Made a ton of money doing so. Sells power tools under the name "Baumr-AG" to sound european, but the tools are the lowest quality of the low, and it's often too late once you have the product in your hands.

Buyer beware. Read the Whirlpool thread and decide for yourself.

Edisons is their online "hardware store", selling these products. Notice no one else sells these brands? They're all in house, and rebadged low quality stuff from China sold at a high markup.

    • Can you recommend better brands?

      I'm about to purchase one

    • To add balance to the discussion, I've had a different experience. I bought a lithium battery blower and a cut-off saw. I knew going in that they were rebadged Chinese crap at bargain basement prices (I could see similar units painted in different colours and different brands on ebay). I only bought them because they had 20%-off vouchers. The blower has performed flawlessly. The saw on the other hand was woefully underpowered, only delivering a quarter of its rated performance. It took 10 minutes to cut a light piece of steel, that I could have hacksawed in less than a minute. Despite being well outside their returns period, I sent them an email about it. They arranged a return and provided a shipping label (admittedly I had to pay for discounted shipping via Australia Post, about $15 from memory for a sizeable package). Once they received and tested the unit, they replaced it and shipped out at their expense a newer model which so far has worked flawlessly. Their returns process seemed quite professional and their communications and emails were very pleasant and well done. Despite being disappointed by the first experience, my experience overall was quite positive. At no point did they try to weasel out of their obligations. Perhaps it as something to do with my sprinkling the terms "Australian Consumer Law", "not fit for purpose" etc. in my fault letter.

Wow - what a dodgy company. Glad I never bought from them & will be sure to avoid! Thx for sharing.

    • Ouch… that's a pretty conclusive average Product Review rating!

  • I've had a bad experience with Edison's as well. But I did buy this plasma/tig machine. It's ok, hf start for tig. I only plasma cut 6mm, did fine. Stick worked fine too. Plasma tips are best bought by Ali express. Don't talk to me about the genny I bought…

  • I have bought multiple items over the years from them. Is true I had to return some products including a log splitter which must have cost a fortune in shipping but they always have been reasonable to work with.

Good write up OP, enjoyable read :).

But there's obviously some serious reservations of this retailer/product.

    Neg reason:

    Known major issues with product/retailer.
