  • They've got some pretty jacked prices on there. Even the px550s are $100 more than they were last 25% off sale.

    • Looking back, prices seem to have jumped significantly on certain items. The RS 120's were on offer for less than $100 a few years back. Not sure what the revised edition offers (they didn't bump it to 125 like they did with the RS 170 -> RS 175).

As usual, though, it pays to do your research before spending your hard earned on the basis of a big discount.

  • Can very easily make your tv Bluetooth;

And get a decent set of Bluetooth headphones…

    • Do your due diligence though: some BT transmitters/recievers have noticeable lag which makes them unsuitable for video or games.

Also BT at best has CD quality audio transmission but you will only achieve this with matching technology such as aptx on both transmitter and reciever. On top of this it is not using lossless compression and compressing already compressed audio such as video audio tracks degrades quality.

  • Are there a cheaper version of this? $300 seems like a lot of money. What's the sweet spot for value for money?

    • There is an RS 165, though Bing Lee don't sell it. It can be had for ~$250 from online merchants.

Then there is the RS 120 ii, which is $149 less 25% at the moment.

There are a couple of Philips units that can be had as well. HN have one for $118.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of wireless headphones that can plug into a 3.5mm headphone jack though.

      • So how do the Senheisser ones connect? Headphone jack? Does it work with PCs too? What are the RS 120 ii like?

        • The RS-120II'S connect to an analogue headphone jack or RCA output, so they will work with a PC. I have mine coming out of the back of the TV to the charger/transmitter base, but they could plug in to an amp. From memory there are three selectable channels on the base (definitely two), but a dial/rotary tuner on the headphones, so you could have several bases plugged in to different sources and switch between bases/sources when needed.

Don't know if the more expensive digital models have a digital input…

    • The RS-120II's are analogue but still good and they can be picked up at Officeworks for $149 (regular price) but may be cheaper elsewhere. I have had several pairs of these and aside from kids leaving them laying around and treading or sitting on them they have been great!

Officeworks should price match the 25% off at Bing Lee

  • I have the rs170's and they beat most other products hands down because you can connect multiple units to one transmitter. I don't know of any other wireless heaphone transmitter/receiver product that does this. Perfect for tv viewing when you need to wear headphones. There is no lag and audio quality is great IMHO. I believe the 175's have some decent improvements but not sure if the $ add up vs the older model.

Picked up a set of these for $350 from JB back in 2015, use them daily and they haven't missed a beat. Still using the AA's they came with. I have them connected to TV (digital optical) & PC (analog 3.5mm), they have a switch on the back to alternate source. For the amount of use I get out of them, I think they're worth the price. I did find over long periods, the pleather earpads got a little sweaty and uncomfortable, so switched them with velvet pads from the RS-185. They're available direct from Sennheiser: https://en-au.sennheiser.com/accessories--ear-cushion--rs-18…

  • Wrong spot… 😏

px550s are $250 from Qantas store. This seems like a better option?

      They're not Bluetooth headphones.

      • they certainly are. My PX550s arrived this week via Qantas

        • No these Sennheiser's aren't Bluetooth. They are a completely different product.

        • @wolfshooter: Isn't bluetooth better?

        • @YellowKnight: completely different use cases. These Sennheiser units can connect multiple headsets to the same transmitter (I have 3), when several people listen to the same source. That's very difficult to achieve with bluetooth without multiple transmitters or headsets that can pair to each other. Also bluetooth generally displays more lag and quality of audio depends on the transmitter. Many TVs and AV receivers don't have built in audio transmitters, so again those Bluetooth headsets won't work without a separate transmitter. But they are great for listening to music from your mobile if that's all you want to do.
