  • Why would you spend so much on an 854 x 480 resolution projector?

  • 100 Lumens. ROFL.

I bought one of these a few months ago and it is brilliant. Don't worry about the resolution specs, the picture quality is perfectly acceptable and if you didn't know it was 480p you wouldn't even realise it. Brightness is also fine. The main selling point of these is the portability obviously, and the minor negatives of resolution is nothing compared to the convenience.

Recently I went on a short holiday with the family. The hotel had a tv but the ports were blocked so we couldn't plug in our own movies to play. I got out the Nebula Capsule, took a painting off the wall to make a clear space and projected on to the wall. Awesome result with a picture that was twice as large as the hotel's tv. The built-in speaker works well, but if you have a UE Boom lying around you can wirelessly connect it to improve the sound a bit more too.

I bought it from Amazon US and used a freight forwarder - cost me $477 including all forwarding fees.

Bought one of these last week for $248 USD on an amazon lightning deal and had a friend forward it over to Oz. It’s a great little unit. Side loading android apps is a breeze and while it’s a bit svelt on the ports I haven’t really found a use case it hasn’t been able to tackle yet. 100 lumens restricts you to controlled ambient light situations only as expected but it’s still very usable and versatile. Form factor is great and it fits nicely in a medium camera lens pouch (it was either that or a stubby holder). All in all I’d say it’s a great buy but probably not at $549. In my opinion $400 is a more acceptable price for one currently. It’s a bit silly that they’ve restricted the ports, haven’t installed google play services, included a dumb IR remote (you won’t use as the remote app is better) and only built it with 8gb ROM. I’d expect an upgraded model to be coming out soon that will be more suited to the ~$500 price point.
