  • Has anyone tried to cancel with magshop? Is it a pain to try and contact them for cancellations?

    Good deal on Gourmet traveller

  • +2

It sounds like one of those cancellation traps.

  • +1

I called them today and they were pretty helpful on the phone but who knows when it comes to canceling.

  • +3

yes its a pain. What I normally do in these situations is cancel as soon as I receive the 2nd last mag

    • +1

      Good idea

  • +2

Great deal - love these mag deals! and yes - cancel when the 2nd to last mag has been sent out to ensure you don't get charged for any future issues. Thanks OP

  • Think could try it!

  • +1

First 3 issues are only $6 and then $19.95 for every 3 issues thereafter. Works out to be $65.85 for 12 issues. Or there regular deal is only $69 for 12 issues without going for Direct debit (I only looked at PC User)

  • +3

These deals are great. I've signed up to a couple and had no problems cancelling them. But balance157 is right, you need to cancel them when you get to the 2nd last mag

  • Direct Debit only….WTF!

  • +1

    I found this on their website;

How can I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions may be cancelled at any time by giving 28 days notice by mail, email, or contacting the Customer Service centre.

Seems pretty easy - no hard sell phone conversation.

  • Might try Empire magazine.

    • Long time subscriber. It's definitely the best film magazine in Australia.

After all my other subscriptions have come and gone, depending on financial state (Readers' Digest, Hyper, etc), Empire is the one constant.

  • +2

Might go with Gourmet, pretty good deal at $2/magazine!

  • +1

Thank you so much RDY4WR. This is a fabulous deal.

  • I dont think so "Australian PC User Get 3 issues for only A$6.00 then A$19.95 every 3 issues thereafter"read the fine print its Direct Debit if you dont cancel or forget to cancel they charge you another $19.95 for the next 3 months.

  • When should I cancel my subscription? 28 days after I receive my 1st issue?

    • I'd say as soon as you receive your second issue

  • +1

Ordered the health mag, every 3 issues after still $6.

    • kikoprincess are you talking about the Good Health Magazine? After the 1st three issues there is a saving of ~$6 every 3 issues from the regular price. After that you will be paying ~$15 for every three issues - $59.95 for 12 issues.

  • I got stung last time when i order the Men's Health magazine, got hit for $20 2 days after the 3rd mag came in mail. Then still forgot to cancel, so got charged another $20! Lol
Only read 1 or 2 of the mags anyway. At least i got to look at the covers, with the amazing bodies of super fit men mocking me!

Still going to try FTW this time, want PC User mag.

Told my mum about the Womans Day for $1 an issue, and Gourmet Traveller for $2 an issue, and she was excited and keen to get it. Until i told her that she had to remember to cancel it in time, and she's like "no way, i'm never going to remember".

    • I just set up an electronic alert that says "cancel magazine subscription when 2nd copy arrives" and get it to repeat each week. A bit annoying but at least I don't forget to cancel. I also flag the confirmation email so that when I need to cancel I can find the details quickly.

  • +2

I called them up, and they say, as soon as you order, wait three days or so, you can call your bank and cancel the direct debit authorisation. That way, the next order would not come through.

Also, you can order the subsequent, just choose the start day e.g. June then September, then you get 9 months for $18….

To be on the safe side I'd probably cancel the subscription when the second issue arrives like what the others have suggested.

  • Ordered just then, hopefully it still goes through!

I bought the 3 issues of PC User mag for $6, roughly around the 26/1, and have yet to receive 1 magazine. I checked my bank account, and i have a charge of $19.95 from Haymarket on the 18/2.
I haven't even received one bloody issue and they've already charged me $20 for the next 3!! Absolute BS, will be phoning them on monday. >:(

    • Doesn't sound good, have you called them up to sort out the matter?

    • +1

Ok, i made a mistake. Apologies to MagShop. I haven't received a magazine yet because apparantly the first issue i'm to receive is the April edition.

As far as the Haymarket Media charge, that was for a seperate thing. A football magazine subscription i got for my brother in Xmas 2009, for 1 year. Apparantly they just keep charging you for it if you choose direct debit, even though you only chose 1 year subscription. :[
