Never ever have i seen a WMR headset cheaper than $400 AUD, let alone $250.

No idea how many are left, but I own a WMR headset and it is very comparable to the Vive.

Note: This is a refurbished model, and a 4 year warranty is available for $3.50 USD

Good luck!

The item I got is used but not refurbished.

    Package: no original box, 1 headset with bag + 2 controller with bag + 1 cable + 2 batteries(not 4)
Condition: The foam seems being heavily used and broken at the edge, there's a broken sticker I have to remove with alcohol because it's melted and very sticky, and there are debris and hairs that I have to clean. And there are smudges on the lens that I need to wipe. But the outer surface of the headset and controllers looks like new.
Testing: works well for the first use, will update if there's any problem

Overall, you get a used one, you may have to do the cleaning, or maybe replace the foam to let it look like new, and there's a few months warranty, it's OK if you can accept that.

  • 1440 x 1440 resolution per eye and up to a 90Hz refresh rate

this sounds decent actually… I know 1,080p isnt enough and yet 4k is too expensive

They have been freebies with lots of laptops. If you keep looking at gumtree you will find a brand new one for less. I paid $150 for a sealed one

    • Any good though?

      • I really can't say, bought it because it was cheap. Haven't installed it since then. Beem in the box for a few months now

  • Are these compatible with games made for Oculus and Vive?

    • -1

Not 100% of them, but it should work with https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_DESC… which looks like a decent list

As Dosada said these are being dumped all over Ebay / Gumtree for a fraction of RRP

If my research is correct, Steam basically has a "wrapper" that let you play Rift or Vive games with Mixed reality headsets. There's also a similar function for gamepad/controllers.

    • +1

it can play all, there are very few that don't play great, but definitely playable.

Steam has an app called "Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR" which lets you launch any game for the vive.
It even replaces the model of the controllers to the WMR model.

Games that don't have a config for WMR can be mapped using community button configs in Steam VR itself, so you wont have to mess around with all that.

    • Yes

Is it compatible with any websites which offer "other" services? lol.

  • How does it compare with PS VR?

    • screens are slightly higher resolution and tracking should be slightly better (though still worse than all other PC competitors). so overall slightly better, but really if you have PSVR it would be about trying the different content available on PCVR, NOT having a vastly improved VR experience

    • +1

WMR is significantly better than PSVR. The screens are much higher resolution and WMR room scale tracking is much better and easy to use without needing external tracking, just keep the lights on in the room so the headset can see the walls clearly. WMR controller isn't very ergonomic, eats batteries (rechargeables work fine), it has some minor issues with losing tracking when the controller is out of sight of the cameras on the headset for too long, but it also has more input options with a track pad and thumb stick on each controller.

I had one of these HP headsets for a few weeks but had to send it back due to the screen going black sporadically. I don't know if it was a hardware fault, might have been an issue with my 970GTX which only had a mini-HDMI and required a dongle to connect it to the headset's full size HDMI.

I later upgraded to a 1080 with a VR ready HDMI \and bought a Dell Visor, had no issues with it whatsoever and the experience was almost identical to the HP, though I think the HP was slightly more comfortable.

If you've got a PS4, then a PSVR is a relatively cheap, user-friendly way of accessing good quality, but limited VR content. If you've got a robust gaming PC then WMR is a relatively cheap, less user-friendly but much higher quality VR experience. Make sure you check your PC hardware is compatible before ordering WMR using Microsoft's Windows Mixed Reality PC Check.

  • Isnt it full price $199USD?

    • that's the sale price, and has never shipped to AUS at that price

The only person I know who has had one of these HP ones used it as a cheaper point of entry for VR porn, I probably wouldn't buy a used one…just saying.

    • You'd hope someone didn't walk in on them as they'd hardly notice wearing a headset.

Lonovo Expolrer Bundle on sale now $199

Considereing getting one of these wizz bang widgets since trying my bro's Vive he had on loan. What an emmersive experience, although I did want to puke after crashing in dirt rally.

Trying to resist but v tempting.

Well worth the $199 plus shipping and the image quality is better than the vive or oculus rift. Just make sure you have a good enough PC to use VR and you need to buy a $10+ bluetooth dongle for the controllers which they dont bother to mention.

      • is the hp or lenovo one better?

  • Note that you don't need the latest and greatest PC to play VR games and content.
I have the Acer headset and it runs fine on my core i5 laptop with on board graphics.
The steam/oculus content can be scaled down if the PC isn't powerful enough

    • Agree, focus is on fps and resolution, but texture quality/poly count is what generally uses all the power in a gpu. Those aren't too important for VR - see Superhot lmao
