  • This is very cheap for a 1080 with decent cooling
    Inb4 " wait for 2080"

      Wait for 2070. >:D

In all seriousness, 12 weeks from now you'll get a better card with a much better value proposition, but expect the 1180 to be the better part of $800.

If that's not in your budget, the 1170 will be cheaper than this 1080 price and perform at around the 1080ti level.

Source on dates and performance figures? I know previous iterations have had similar performance improvements (e.g. 1070 as good as 980 or whatever) but is this all still based on rumours?

Even after they are announced, I struggle to believe the 11xx series to be widely available in 12 weeks, maybe the founders edition but I'm still doubting the timelines people are suggesting.

No one besides Nvidia know what the power will be, how much it will cost, or when it will release.

Anyone else is just giving a prediction, which can easily be wrong.

        • It's still based on rumours, but there's vendor leaks happening all over the place now pointing to the long-rumoured performance increases and to a Gamescom launch for the FE cards, which places 3rd party options a month after.

Between the use of GDDR6 and the more efficient 16nm (aka 12 nm) process, it's going to be economical for them to give the die size a bump and generate roughly the same price point as the previous gen with those rumoured performance numbers.

        • @c0balt: they've had a pricing and performance strategy that they've tried to maintain for 10 years, it's not that hard to guess any changes based on VRAM price increases.

They've made an absolute killing on Pascal, so if they were to do something so daft as to try and increase their margins, higher-end consumers will just buy the next model down (which is still an improvement).

        • In fact, here we go:

          http://sg.h2gaming.vn/rog-strix-gtx-1180-16gb

Reputable Vietnamese store, though pay no attention to pricing. Same number of cores as the 1080ti with faster memory, but a smaller bus.

        • @jasswolf:

          AU$2000, ouch.

        • +4

picture suggests 1180Ti, should be able to play crisis.

ordered 15, should arrive in November 2019.

        • @Bargain Zombies: it's safe to say if that was real price it would be a commercial disaster.

Apparently Vietnamese GPU inflation is pretty bad, but that is early adopter pricing and then some. Fake box shot too, so just pay attention to the specs only.

        • @jasswolf:

          Looks like trolling to me.
          ASUCK ??

It's fairly easy to Photoshop the number on the box.

        • +1

          @jasswolf: fake, confirmed.

it was a photoshopped 1080 box, with a sticker and VRAM sticker removed - and it still said 1080 on the top

          poor trolling job

People have been saying that for months now. Just buy the card and have fun, it's not like the 1080 will become obsolete the second the new cards come out. It will still last you a few years regardless.

      • I'm not in the biggest hurry to get it so whilst I will get a 10xx series card, might be worth waiting to see if it drops further.

  • Out of stock, was trying to edit to 1 left but as I was doing so it seems it sold out.

      scam

      • Definitely a scam… And what a surprise, 9 sold between the 2 in 24 hours.

        • whats the worst that can happen?
          buyer protection / etc

        • OK, so logged into Paypal, there was an option to cancel the payment…
Canceled and was credited + the 10% off.
          I just made 10% proffit??!

          I just made 10% proffit??!

No you didn't profit, look at your PayPal account in more detail.

        • @dom_christo:

whats the worst that can happen?

          You lose all the money.

        • @Maverick-au: yep.. They would probably send a brick in a box to the same suburb local library/anywhere (common scam) and it'd be signed for and that's what you'd see in the tracking. Once you raise a dispute of item never received, then it's game over.

  • Am I the only one who thought it's finally back down to MSRP?

    • Currently have RX 480. Do I wait now or upgrade later on in the year? How much more will the prices drop or do I buy the new cards.

      • +1

If you want the latest/best, buy when it comes out. If you want the cheapest, buy at the end of its life. Other than that, your guess in regards to price drop is as good as any.

        :)

      • -1

        Buy this now

      • +2

        WAIT!

      • +1

Remember this is like a 2 year old card still above its release price… Not exactly a good deal. I would wait 1-2 more months if you can.. No guarantee but it is likely these will drop a lot more, there may even be new cards released.

      • Apparently GTX 1180 is coming out next month / September. Maybe wait and buy this one on discount?

    • +1

Cheaper by few dollars at futu with PICKITUP code.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-nVidia-GeForce-GTX-1080…

    • Depends on your need. Yours isn't bad at all. But new ones are on the way, for yourself to justify the price/time

    • I read this article the other day, may help with your decision:
