[VIC] National Gallery of Victoria Amex Offers: 15% off Exhibition Tickets, 20% off Memberships & More

160

As a Sydneysider, my favourite gallery is the National Gallery of Victoria (no joke; I've been there more times than the Art Gallery of New South Wales). It ain't a Melbourne visit if I didn't go to the NGV!

I got an e-mail yesterday with a number of offers that Amex cardholders can take advantage of when visiting the NGV:

  • 15% off exhibition tickets (if you book online, they charge a $4.50 booking fee. You may want to book online if the queue for buying tickets is 40 minutes long like when I went to Van Gogh last year)
  • 20% off memberships excluding Premium and Corporate memberships until August 5 (with a free exhibition ticket excluding Melbourne Winter Masterpieces, reciprocal benefits at interstate galleries like AGNSW and if you happen to be in New York and have a NGV Membership, you can go to MoMA for free between June 9 and October 7) e.g. Individual Annual Membership is $105 normally but $84 with the Amex offer
  • 10% off NGV Design Store (in store only) - it says until July 29 on the website, but the e-mail I got states August 5
  • Complimentary drink at NGV Friday Nights

For those who've been to the NGV MoMA exhibition, is it crowded?

Not to paid exhibitions such as MoMA and all Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibitions … A membership will allow you to get member pricing which I think is 20% (so if you're an infrequent vistor, just use the 15% off exhibition tickets offer)

      • A membership will allow you to get member pricing

So how many 'paid' exhibition do you need to attend to get back the money you pay for the membership?

          There's other membership benefits: https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/membership/

As I mentioned in my earlier comment, if you are an infrequent visitor and wouldn't utilise a NGV membership to its fullest, you would use the 15% off exhibition ticket offer instead

          @kerfuffle:

I think there are two perks worth mentioning:

          • one free exhibition ticket - although moma is currently excluded, but the ngv does have other exhibits from time to time which are just as interesting.

          • Reciprocal benefits at local and interstate galleries - so you could still visit your NSW gallery with this membership! :)

Edit : just noticed you mentioned them!

          @bluedufflecoat:
Yeah, I'm seriously considering buying a membership so I can use my free ticket for the MC Escher exhibition later in the year haha

I can also use it at MCA!

        • @kerfuffle:

Can I go with you, I'll bring nibblies?

        • @Scab: I actually haven't been to a MCA exhibition in a while haha

        • @Scab:

          I'll bring nibblies?

Won't that violate your parole conditions?

Move on, jv, you obviously aren’t interested.

      • I'm a Patron of the arts…

        • Do you mostly patronize places that show naked women? :)

        • @try2bhelpful:

I'm not really into idolatry, are you?

        • @jv: Not unless you classify looking at picture of Chris Hemsworth as idolatry.

        • @try2bhelpful:

          Is he at NGV ?

        • @jv: No but, if we are lucky, he might make an appearance at Marvel Stadium.

        • @try2bhelpful:

          an appearance at Marvel Stadium.

Is that what they are going to call it?

It was between that, and Mickey Mouse Stadium.

        • @jv: I think Mickey Mouse stadium would've lead to too many jokes. I suppose it is no worse than Etihad Stadium.

        • @try2bhelpful:

Calling it Marvel Stadium is an oxymoron though.

        • @jv: Guys wearing clothes that show off their muscles; I can, sort of, see the connection. Seriously I have the Commercialisation of stadium names; at least the MCG is always the MCG.

        • @try2bhelpful:

at least the MCG is always the MCG.

Rumour has it that the Chinese govt. are trying to do a deal with the AFL to sponsor the ground and call it the MSG.

        • @jv: But we already have the "not round ground" for the soccer.

Find someone with a Mercedes and still receiving the quarterly magazine, this issue comes with 2 free tix. I think free drinks/canapes on Friday arvo for them too.

    • We don't get the magazines anymore but it was good whilst it lasted. We only bought an A-Class so I think we are a bit low rent for them now.
