[Preorder 2-3 Weeks] HP Pro Tablet 608 Atom (X5-Z8550 4GB, 32GB, 7.86" Screen, WWAN) $119 + Shipping @ i-Tech

170

A decent tablet at a cracking price, would be good to netflix on the go ( with the micro SD )

The major disadvantage would be the 32GB storage which will be a pain for the infamous windows updates, but at this price should be OK to overlook

Edit: this is a WWAN model so has LTE support if I'm not wrong

  • The 4gb of ram on this is super luxurious! If you can manage the tiny space, and are willing to handle the occasional hiccup with windows update, it'll probably be a fairly zippy little device (for the price).

    • just disable the update completely. many ways to do it from googling

      • Just flash it to android.

damn it, been hunting for an android tablet deal!

    • If this could run Android, it would probably not be going so cheap :-)

Benchmark on this is like a Core2-duo from ten years ago. (but graphics much better) So would be OK for Linux or OS-X, but not so great for Windows.

  • Screen Resolution:2048 x 1536

    UP VOTE FROM ME

  • It should be noted this has a 2045 * 1536 resolution display, so reading on this would be quite sharp.

The 7.86" display though means you probably won't be typing up documents on the airplane for extended periods of time. But still big enough to watch videos / read with.

Still, cheaper than the unfortunate Intel Compute stick of the same caliber.

  • The touch-screen has a problem that can never be fixed. Avoid that at all costs unless you using the mouse and keyboard only.

    • Bugger I was giving this some serious thought and was about to grab one until I saw that comment. Will look into that

    • I read a couple of reviews before posting this, there was no mention of the issue, could you point this out please for others who may be interested

The local warranty should help if the screen fails IMO

    • What's the issue with the touch screen? Is it not useable?

      • the touch screen cannot be touched
        :D

    • please elaborate? links? sources?
otherwise my itchy fingers will press buy :(

  • I'm guessing that eMMC can't be upgraded?

    • unfortunately emmc are soldered on to the motherboard usually

  • 2-3wks preorder

  • i thought everything with word "atom" is not good?

    • versus what ?

      mediatek ? snapdragon ?

    • At that price the word Atom becomes "mildly acceptable"

  • Is this Wifi only or a LTE version?

    • It has WWAN so LTE model if I'm not wrong

  • I cannot add to cart… hrrm

    • Same here…thought I was doing something wrong.

  • a 3 years old device.

  • where is buy/add cart button?????

    • Looks like it was Ozbargained

      • Darn~

  • Goneski? Though isn't the discount only $18 (normal price $137)?

    • Checked Price hipster before posting - dropped fom $447 to this price ( introductory price $827 )

      • That price is crazy then. Lenovo 10" plus are around $350 usually and sub $300 on sale every couple of months.

  • Did anyone get one?

    • yep. payment received, but still in progress…

  • Still showing some available at MegaBuy. But at $141.51 + delivery.

    • But is it worth it?

    • That one is a bit different; it has 64GB of storage instead of 32GB in this deal.

Honey, do these bezels make my butt look big?

  • So what's the verdict on this as a news reading and YouTube machine.

Need one for somebody who normally does the old laptop on chest in bed trick which I used to do before I upgraded to my now 8 inch android tablet but he doesn't need all the power I need just for browsing, SBS movies, email and YouTube so touchscreen needs to be fairly usable.

Don't need Cellular/Lee just WiFi is usable. 8-9 inch size max.

450g weight max imho as I have a 10.6 inch that weighs like more than triple my Huawei Mediapad M3 8.4 inch and it is unusable in bed.

Budget $170 aud max for good specs otherwise I'll just Gumtree a Samsung Galaxy Tab S1/2 8 inch for $250.

  • Just got a notification of a Paypal refund from I-Tech, then an email from I-Tech noting:
"Thank you for your business. We're sorry to advise that this item is not available. Your order is cancelled and refunded in full. We're sincerely sorry for the inconvenience."

    Kinda bummed.

Edit: Also looks like they removed all trace of it existing on their site now, too!

    • That is a real bummer , sorry the deal did not work out for you, hope it is not the case with everyone

    • Megabuy have removed it also…
