Coles Mastercard Price Protection Fail! (Refused as Samsung S8+ Was a Different Colour)

Hi guys,

I purchased Samsung S8+ a little over a year ago on my Coles MC from Harvey Norman. Obviously with the price dropped (about $400) I claimed price differential and this was through Latitude insurance.

Unfortunately they knocked my claim back saying that one currently advertised it was black in colour while mine is orchid grey. Orchid grey somehow not available but they are all the same price. I was going to wait a bit more since price protection is for 2 years, but according to Harvey Norman website, S8/S8+ have been discontinued??

Any advice?? Thanks

Yes, it has to be the exact same product including colour.

The item with the reduced price must be exactly the same as the item you bought, including size, colour, make and model number, attachments and accessories.

You have held out too long and will miss out.

Get over it, you know the rules.

I cancelled the price protection after a few months. One month I saw it was $25. Not worth it for an Ozbargainer who does their research to get the best deals in the first place!

It's 1% of the closing balance on the card. A $25 fee means you owed $2500 when the statement was generated.

You need to level up your ozbargain and bpay the entire balance the day before the statement is issued.

      • Which is also what I do, but really I've made way more than the cost of the insurance back, especially since I solely use the card for the price protection purchases.

I've gotten about $3.5k over 3 years back, might have cost me less than $30 a year if I forget to transfer in occasionally. Such an easy claims process too.

2 years price protection quite good - only get 6 months on 28 degrees MC (but 0.5% cost which of course is only of concern one doesn't zero the statement).

You know some products are actually priced differently according to colour right? You don't have a case.

  • You should of considered this with the original purchase and bought black, too late now i guess.
