  • I bought the HAWX 2 CD key for $20 from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38377 a couple of weeks ago but I still haven't got around to playing it.

  • This one put this game off for me.

    Under System Requirements:
"Internet Connection: A permanent internet connection is required to play the game."

I don't enjoy having to be connected permanently to the internet just to play a game. Just my 2 cents.

    • Do you have dial-up?

      If so I understand.

      Otherwise I think your a drama queen/king.

Games have been requiring some sort of internet for a long time, and unless you like gambling with Steam offline, all of your steam games need the internet as well, and seeing how this is a steam purchase, you would need the internet regardless of the extra hawx requirement.

      • +1

You don't know the situation Sam.
        Some households restrict internet availability.
Sometimes the PC is restricted & downloads can be organised outside of "allowed time" & sometimes the router is restricted. Maybe there is cost control.
Maybe its offsite, a campus, a monastery.
Hell, does this site make it to Egypt ?
        Just sayn!!
(maybe I shouldn't have said that last bit in case it was a monastery)
Nevertheless, +1, I saw it on steam & they have the xpac on 50% sale as well.
Have hawkx1 & is a great arcade game.

        • As I said

Purchasing for this price is ONLY on steam, which means you internet access most of the time.

The excuses is kinda silly considering it doesn't use any download bandwidth and for someone to have a computer good enough to run this game but somehow isn't able to access Google, thats just silly.

Once again, offsite, campus, monastery, egypt, all won't run on steam, so the extra restrictions the actual game give you are not very relevent.

You might as well be whining about steam as well. (But you won't because Valve is the uber cool and Ubisoft is the uber not right?)

        • Loved the first Hawx game, and I bet the second one is just as good.
And I have high speed internet access for most of the time.
It's just that I usually have more important things to do, such as studying, at those times.

Elsewhere, I can start up Steam in Online mode just fine, using a slow 3G connection through my phone.
The internet speed is like dial up all over again. Anyway.
It's just that when the game sends its own internet check that the request times out, effectivly making the game unplayable.

It just ends up being annoying that I can't play the game anwhere away from the internet. It's the same with Command and Conquer 4 as well. But it's a good deal for everyone with a permenant internet connection!

        • Michael, AFAIK only one of Ubisoft's games were that picky, and a simple timeout does not close this game.

The latest version Ubisoft DRM doesn't that is…

  • I bought this game via steam and was asked to download it.

Unfortunately for me, I am temporarily staying in a hotel as a guest for 1 year and they only offer the internet at $66 for 5 gigs :p

Anyway to cut it short, it took me 3 hours to complete the download only to come up with an "Error Code 1" when it completed download and installation. Checked the steam support site and it says to uninstall and reinstall again. So I uninstall it and when I tried to install it again, it wanted to download the whole 6 gig again which I think was absolutely stupid.

I have submitted a ticket to Steam requesting a refund as I do not wish to waste another $66 to download this game again when I can purchase the whole game with the CD at EB store or Game.
