Was searching for an alternative to my current Amaysim plan (the electricity is cheap but the gas has been very expensive).
Found this Amex Offer on the website. Although Globird seems to be a new company, I couldn't find any reported issues.
The code MYAMEX is not required if you access the link.

The text only mentions Electricity bill, but if you compare electricity and gas you will find the following information:
Electricity: 37% Pay on time discount on the entire bill!
GAS: 35% Pay on time discount on the entire bill!

  • I can see the deal on the Amex site, but it states:
    "Offer is valid from 9 March until 30 June 2018" ??

  • I signed up a few days ago without any promo codes and was offered 35% with direct debit from any card (not just Amex) so YMMV.

    • That's their usual offer. I was on this offer, and enquired about switching to this new discount rate (given that I already have my bill direct debited to my AmEx card).

      The usual offer apparently includes the 1% in the 35%, and using this AmEX one you get additional 1% OFF, and 37% instead of 35% for the gas, but the deal doesn't look that great anymore… haha…

      • The discounts are calculated on the entire bill (i.e., including the daily supply charge); most of the other utilities only offer a discount on the usage and nothing on the daily supply charge

    I was already with them at 34% and Just called them. They said it’s for new customers but if I set up direct debit to AMEX then they can update it. So I just got it updated to 37% off. Happy to PM my referral code too

  • Have a look at Alinta - their gas prices are very cheap, however they will only allow you to sign up to the gas plan of you have electricity as well.

    Globird electricity is definitely cheaper than Alinta - but if you take the total (gas plus electricity) into account, Alinta might be cheaper.

    Do a comparison.

    • I was with Alinta (electricity+gas) for a long time, no issues… I moved to Amaysim early this year because Alinta made the migration process very difficult, basically making me cancel an old account and creating a new one even though I wanted to disconnect and move to a new place. The "migration/transference" was not possible, I had to create an entirely new installation, and they were being helpless with this process, suggesting that I could be without electricity for 10-14 days, while Amaysim could complete the installation in 1-2 days. Therefore, I just got a new installation with a new company. Amaysim rates seemed better, but I'm just spending a lot more with gas during the peak months (winter). Amaysim's support has been lazy after the acquisition of CLickEnergy and the introduction of energy services. It seems that they have different support teams but they don't talk to each other. I sent a basic request (wrong details printed on the bill) specifying the subject using the online form and got "have you tried to contact the energy team?" as a reply.

  • Can vouch for globird. Discount on both usage and supply charge for electricity. Had door knockers from other providers give up straight away once I mention globird.

  • I'm with Globird quite a new customer I've emailed them, hopefully will get the additional 2% discount (their normal discount is 35% with direct debit).

    I've did some shopping and they seem to be the cheapest rates around and I've had to deal with their customer service - so far they're quite good.

      I'm the same. Looking at this, the normal daily rate is 125c exc GST (promo = 78.75c), my normal rate is 72c exc GST with Tango Electricity however they don't offer gas..

      • Yeah Tango is the best for electricity. Just so simple, lock in the contract for 2 years, no late payment fees nothing.

  • Thanks OP, currently on the Simply Energy RACV plan and just spent the last 10 mintues doing the math I'd save at least 10% more than Simply Energy for both Gas and Electricity

    • I compared both deals, and Momentum Energy, which also seems to be a reasonable option, but Globird was cheaper.

  • They are good. But you do not need amex to get 35%off on gas. That is their standard discount

  • Joke of a company. Denied me because their credit reporting agency (Equifax) said I have bad credit(??) - there is literally no way I could have bad credit.

    • Perhaps they like poor payers - an extra 50% PLUS (1/.63?) if late ;-)

  • There is also a 50$ referral bonus when using the globird referral system when signing up. Not sure If it can be used here but it would certainly be an additional bonus.

    I’ve been with them for a while and the increased solar feed in Tarif of 71.3 cents is a valuable benefit to me based on my usage pattern

    It's worth using the government compare website first. They mentioned this deal for me, along with equal best of another GloBird deal that had 0% discount, cheaper supply and more expensive usage (I'm a low usage user). So, the government website might find a deal that's even better for you.

    • That should've been, there is a second GloBird deal, where instead of higher rates heavily discounted, you just get lower rates to start off with, that was recommended to me. Note: It depends on your usage as to which one is better. For me they are the same, so I will skip the pay on time discount (though I have to accept Direct Debit instead)

    • That's when the problems start… I went to the referral form online thinking that I'd be able to create a referral link or code. It turned out that I used my phone number, email address and/or customer number and the system has a problem, resulting in a conflict for whatever reason. I contacted the support team, and it seems that this problem is too much for them:

      Hi. I'm trying to fill the form to refer friends to GloBird, but the forms return a message when I enter my customer number 100XXXXX:
      "Sorry. There are multiple accounts with the contact details you have entered. Please enter your preferred account number instead, or call 133 456 to complete the process."
      I have gas and electricity accounts but the system should be able to recognise it and send the invite to my friends anyway.
      Both electricity and gas accounts have the same number.
      Can you please correct this for me to be able to invite friends? Cheers.

      I would rather have the option to send a link or invitation to my friends directly, using my reference number. I'm currently a GloBird customer (100XXXXX) and I don't agree with sending my friend's details to you because the referral system is not working properly for some reason. The form is there for me to fill and then automatically send an invitation email to my friends. If the form has a problem ("there are multiple accounts with the contact details") that's a problem to be managed. It shouldn't have multiple accounts with my customer number even if I have electricity gas services.
      I'd appreciate if you have a better solution (referral links and forms working as they should).

      I understand and I appreciate you trying to help. However, if the referral system exists it is supposed to allow me to invite friends by sending a link or something like that. As the form is there, I suppose the support team will be able to identify and correct the issue.
      I have a few friends that I could invite but people are not always happy with sending address and/or telephone number and other details to companies. I would have to ask them their full addresses. I know that they will eventually fill a form with all their details when they move to GloBird but that's expected.
      Is there a way for them to add a reference number (my customer number) while signing up using the online form, while the system is updated/corrected?

  • Only one code can be used. In the Amex conditions, it clearly says not valid with any other promotions. The AMEX code cannot by used together with the referral.

    Was planning to sign up with Globird but rang up current provider (Lumo) to see if they could match or do better- which they did so happy to stay with Lumo. Definitely worth the 15 mins spent on the phone to get a better deal!

    Time to shop around again.

      Interesrtingly, I have switched to Globird months ago and they took long time to actually switch my gas account. I only got a letter from the previous company last month, and haven't received any gas bill from Globird yet, only electricity. With the new rates, Globird is no longer interesting for me. They should keep the rates for 12 months when there is a new contract. Will have to switch again…
