  • I currently run a V20, is this phone worth upgrading to?

    • +3

My gf has the V20 and I have the V30+, the V30 does feel nicer in the hands as it's slimmer. Though I find the camera quality of the V20 to be better. In addition the V20 is definitely more robust and can handle a beating, add in the fact it has removable battery too.

If the V20 is serving you fine, I would say no need to upgrade.

      • Thank you. Saved me some money.

      • +1

Sticking with the V20 it is. Cheers for the review!

        • Never owned the V30 or V20, but the V30 on paper is a downgrade in some ways imo. The main camera uses a smaller sensor on the V30 (so offers slightly worse photo's), it loses the user replaceable battery, and the screen is known to suffer from quality issues. Really the V20 is the last decent phone to offer a user replaceable battery, which means it's easy to get a lot longer life out of that phone.

The only thing that annoys me with LG is their lack of OS updates. And there's no way I would give them the kind of money this deal is asking. At ~$400 I can forgive their early abandoning of support, but not paying $700+ for that poor support.

    • V30+ launched last year. Why not choose a latest phone.

      • +4

        Because money…

      • +11

because it is just stupid to buy newly released phone (and worst if camping 3 nights to get them). you pay lots for its marketing costs.

buy 1 gen older product when they release new model. buy v30 when there v40 released.

        • I don't think 700 is cheap enough. For me I prefer Mi8 or OP6 or similar cheap flagship.

        • Problem is in this case you can get OP6 or mi8 at at cheaper or similar price for better specs, might as well get that over this

        • @presentv:

I suppose it comes down to what features are important to you. If you care about the Wide angle camera and having a nice DAC in a phone, then these are features you typically don't find on other flagships.

  • Very good phone… Definitely rate it after switching from an iPhone X

Tip - Put a case on it otherwise lint gets under the edges of the screen..

    • Weird. You need to elaborate dude, sounds interesting.

    • Yes, consider me intrigued as this is gonna be my next phone once the cost comes down a bit more…

Not a huge fan of beautiful devices covered in ugly plastic cases (I'm generally pretty careful).

      • +1

It is documented on whirlpool forums

"there is a tiny gap between the metal frame and the screen where the lint collects."

My first one gathered a fair bit at the top and bottom of the frame after putting it into my pocket a few times as I used it naked (without a case). It also had slight light bleeding near the top left corner and got it swapped for another one which had the same light bleed problem but this time round I stuck a spigen case on to stop the lint build up whilst the case also hides the light bleed.. Problem solved for me or more like covered up the problem..

If you run it naked and somewhat OCD like me I would choose another device.

Other then the above negative I like the phone tremendously

        • I run naked and ocd….

  • really better off going with the LG G7 IMO.

    • about a $150 price difference, especially if you get the plus.

    • Why?

      • better specs on the plus, but again, more expensive.

Found it for $664 here 12 months Australian warranty.

    • Believe that is import stock.

      • It is. "Australian warranty" with them and only them. Also it'll be 3-4 weeks minimum for any repair.

    • +4

oh please stay away from becetchg just google the store name and word review you will scared to death

      • I was about to write something similar.

    • +3

They charge $74.95 for shipping. Total delivered makes it $738.95…

    • By the time you factor in postage, it cost more than this deal. Ignoring the fact you are comparing Grey import against Australian stock.

  • i feel like this post has a little too much + plus going on..

  • Still debating whether to get this. Was tempted to get it to replace my S7 edge when JB dropped it to $799. This makes it even more tempting.

Only thing stopping me is that Samsung replaced the screen and battery in my edge recently (1 month inside 24 month warranty), so unsure. So either sell the edge and make more money from it due to the new screen and battery, or keep it for a while longer, hmm.

  • Thanks OP. Been looking at this to replace my Moto G5 plus + my ailing mp3 player.

  • I just bought one yesterday on ebay for $689. cracking phone..

  • +1

Gutted! need a new phone from my S4 since it's dying. But the pricing drops every 2 weeks lol. Should I wait?

    • Hah so true - it's on a downward slide.

      • +2

LG phones usually start at flagship prices, and then steadily decrease in price. The longer you wait, the lower this price will drop, so I guess it depends on how badly you need your new phone.

  • Just got one OP, thanks. My current phone has about two weeks to live so this is very well timed.

  • This or oneplus 6? Coming from Samsung Galaxy Note 4

    • Keep the note 4.

  • +2

I have the V20 lauched with Nougat, and hardware wise it's a great phone, but the delays in LG rolling out Oreo (was to be march, then april, then may, then june, then july now August) for it has put me off buying a phone that isn't android one in the future.

Nokia 7 Plus has beta of Android Pie already and reckon final will be OTA in a few weeks …

  • Thanks OP, I bought 2 (most people are kidding when they say this)

  • Phone just arrived and is downloading a 1.7gb update to Oreo. Feels much nicer in the hand than my Mate 8.

  • Looks like LG V40 announcement/release is just around the corner. Looking forward to checking out the differences and if theres nothing major between the V30 and V40, hopefully i'll be able to pick up the V30 for $500ish after the V40 release !

    • Good luck, you might even be able find one 2nd hand at $500 by then. It will be old technology by the time you get around to your purchase.

      • thanks, however I am still optimistic that the Lg V30+ will drop in price further to the $500 mark sooner than later.

V30+ was selling for $1199 in Dec 2017.
In Feb 2018 it was down to $999
In April it was down to $899
In July its down to $799

These are all prices from retailers like JB Hifi, even cheaper if bought on eBay using vouchers and what not.

Last year the LG V20 (previous model) sold for $366 (brand new) online towards the end of its shelf life.
