4K Foxtel via iQ4 @ Foxtel

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Foxtel have announced that they will begin airing in 4K via channel 444 in October.

Current Platinum and Sports HD subscribers with the latest iQ3 released in April (sometimes referred to as the iQ3.5) will be able to view the new channel once their iQ boxes have been upgraded via a software patch.

  • What will they air? FTA or movies?

    This is NOT a bargain…

This from a company that still charges extra for HD! Surely they'll charge another $10 a month for 4K!

    • Netflix also charges extra for HD and 4K.

Mods please send this back to the deals page so I can downvote it.

    Foxtel is a (profanity) joke.

  • Surely they'll charge another $10 a month for 4K!

No price increase for now with the one 4K channel, 444.

No one here actually pays $10 for HD do they?

No one here actually pays $10 for HD do they?

No one here actually pays for Foxtel.

      • I do.

        • is any good for the price u pay for it?

          @Zachary:

          Value is very subjective.

          I pay $46/mo:

          Entertainment
          Entertainment Plus
          Movies
          Sport
          HD

I get all the movies I could ever want in HD, stream-able any time. I watch FoxFooty in HD without ads during a quarter. And I get every session of the F1 live in HD. I like the ability to series record on iQ3 with touch of a button so i can watch my favorite shows and fast forward all the ads, including 7,9,10 shows - and the ability to record 3 shows at the same time is handy.

The wife watches a bunch of bullshit shows about house decorating and renovations. Heh.

We record basically every favorite show on series link on ABC kids so we can play any of our kids favorite shows instantly without having to stuff around on the ipad.

So I am fairly happy with the value I get I guess. It would be nice if it were cheaper, but it's not outrageously expensive IMO.

        • @Skramit:

That's a pretty good deal you have there

        • @Skramit: how did you get that deal?

  • When will they update Foxtel GO to an actual decent program / app with acceptable quality I wonder.

  • I'm not paying $10 a month for HD. If they start including HD I'll resubscribe to foxtel

Tell them you don't want to pay $10 and they won't charge you. I haven't paid for it for years now. You can save roughly $30 per month. I get Drama and HD for free.

  • Satellite only - not available for broadband customers!

  • This is a good move. Foxtel has often been behind the times in terms of tech. I mean the fact that they still charge $10 for HD is laughable.

Now to find a 4K TV so I can enjoy the cricket in 4k this summer….

Pleased to hear it will work on iQ3 but my AVR is not 4K ready :///

I jumped on Foxtel with the $39 Sports + HD special a while back, just called and upgraded to the iQ4 box with a <4min call. No cost to upgrade, pretty happy!

    • Brave. Let us know how it goes. I remember when the iQ3 first launched it was a disaster. The thing needed about 4 firmware updates until it was barely usable.

      • Will do, I held off on getting Foxtel my entire life until that deal so have only had it for around 4 months. Got it because I couldn't stand the buffering I would get when watching F1 on my crappy internet connection any longer. Hopefully they will bring in the 4K Sky Sports F1 feed soon after.

The iQ3 is pretty laggy but haven't had it crash yet, but I have heard that it used to be MUCH worse.

Been reading on Whirlpool that Foxtel have been sending out iQ3.5 boxes out the past couple of months and people seem quite happy at how much better it is. The Foxtel site says anyone with an iQ3.5 will get a software update to make it the iQ4.

        • I see. I got a new iQ3 fairly recently. How do i check if it's a 3.5? Got a link to Whirlpool?

        • +1

@Skramit: The physical look of the 3.5 looks like the iQ4 (as seen in the pic here)

          Also on that link:
Since April 2018 we’ve been providing our Satellite customers with the new stock iQ3 which has the capacity to support 4K. These eligible set-top boxes will receive the latest software update, between Wednesday 15 and Monday 21 August, to enable 4K content delivery when our first 4K channel launches in the coming months.

People were discussing it on the latter pages of the iQ3 thread on Whirlpool but now there's a new iQ4 thread.

        • @unco:

Awesome thanks. My iq3 looks like that picture, but not sure what the original iq3 looks like to compare :)

@Skramit: Here's some more info I found scrawling through the iQ3 thread quickly.

          • The newer model has fewer buttons on the front panel
          • It uses a HDMI-2 cable, rather than a HDMI cable
          • You can pair the Bluetooth remote with the button on the front of the box.

Apparently the HDMI-2 cable has blue tips?

          iQ3 box
iQ3.5/4 box The second button from the right is the bluetooth button.

Hopefully you've already got the latest one and don't have to call and wait for a swapover. Seems like it's quite quick to change anyway, people are saying they're already receiving SMS delivery notifications for tomorrow.

          @unco:

Sweet yeah i definitely have the 3.5 then.

  • Just to note as I rang them today. IQ4 is only for satellite customers. I'm on cable and there is no upgrade path to IQ4. Given the discussions on whingepool about it https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2712399 I don't want to make that move yet. Seems I'm in the minority given that Foxtel has stated that 75% of their customers are now on satellite. I'm pretty happy with the cable service in my area, less happy with the IQ3 box, but that's another story.

    • I posted this on Whirlpool coupe of days ago and was able to successfully change over from Cable to Satelite

….just an update as currently cable subscriber, and to help out others in the same scenario

went onto live chat but they were not able to process as an upgrade and she asked me to call the call centre.

The CSR said the same thing that address was satellite ready but unable to process and had to chat with her supervisor what next step was. After a few minutes she came back and said not sure why it would not allow to process as an upgrade and that her supervisor has approved for it to go through as "Moving Home" option. By processing the order this way it allowed her to put it though as an order for Satellite connection.

Long time subscriber so she waived the tech fee and also additional $50 off the STB, total coming to $75 which i thought was fantastic considering. All is sorted, earliest install was a couple weeks away which is fine, Iq4 and 4k now awaits!

So suggest anyone having issues converting over, perhaps ask them to process as "Moving Home" rather than a standard upgrade.

Will be back in a couple of weeks to report how it all went
