5.3kg becomes heavy if you have a lot of hedges to cut and especially when over chest height. I went cordless a while back and only use the petrol hedge trimmer if i have to cut thick over grown hedges. Had the ryobi cordless but had a problem now switched to ozito has 5 year warranty and 3 year battery warranty kit cost $129 see how that goes.

  • I agree paulaus.

If there’s one thing about hedge trimmers, it’s the damn blades rusting up and seizing, and as paulaus has suggested wielding anything 5KG or so above head height for long periods gets very tiring.

Not to suggest that Bunnings wouldn’t deny a claim if the blades on a Ozito hedge trimmer hadn’t been maintained, but the Ozito gear seems to be the most hassle less for a return. As I’d imagine most repairers would claim that a lot of genuine seizure of the blades is due to owner neglect.

Also, if it’s for the occasional hedge and home use something that’s just as easy as recharging a battery without needing to worry about spark plugs, Petrol (2 or 4), air filters etc seems like a good idea.

That’s just my thoughts; as in electro vs Petrol, I don’t know anything about the Homelite or Ozito models, other than to suggest my experience with Ozito returns versus other brands at Bunnings has been fairly straight forward.

    • Blade rusting and eventually seizing is a problem with most hedge trimmers using uncoated stainless steel and/or underpowered motors. I have found that applying a small amount of WD40 or some vegetable oil before and after trimming seems to help but whether this will expand the life span of the blades remains to be seen.

      • I mean, yeah it should help to extend the life of the blades, anything that reduces wear and friction I’d imagine would be beneficial. Good advice Jupitarian, also I like the handle.

  • If the quality is anything like the Homelite trimmer I had from Bunnings long ago it will be awful.

I use a Ryobi electric trimmer and agree lightweight is essential.

  • do Aldi have one on offer currently?

    • On sale 1/9 for $99, 3 year warranty

  • ProTip: After using any hedger, spray the blade with Lanox or similar….

Prevents the blades rusting and running smooth as!

  • At some point the amnesty for owning and operating noisy petrol-powered garden equipment must come to an end.

    • not an issue with me at all, my neighbour is the first to complain if my weeds are overgrowing (by placing an anonymous letter in my letter box!)

Have not received an anonymous letter about noisy garden equipment yet :)
