  • I need more ways to keep watch on my spouse, they were looking like they don't respect me.

Do you have anything for tracking a very loved spouse too?

    • +16

Take them out for a tasty dinner, then you can watch them and they'll love you for it. It works a treat! We primarily help with watching your cars ;)

      • maybe there's a market there for you as well! :P

        • There's probably a limit on how many wives they can take out for dinner each night.

        • @Elijha: that's why you also need a good scheduler!

    • looking like they don't respect me.

Get a pair of thongs … Move to Sunnyvale ASAP … They need to respect your AWTHORITEEEY

For those on a budget just repurpose an old smartphone to be permanently in the car

…..and if it's cars as in the target user for this??

    • +2

Theoretically yes, but in reality no. Phones aren't designed to live in cars, which can often reach 80+ Celsius during the day. Naturally you'd also be paying your monthly service bill for the phone and then it's also likely the power adaptor that charges the phone would drain your car's battery flat if you didn't drive it after a few days.

The main drawback for running a smart phone for this purpose is of course the reliability and tracking frequency. Track My Ride operates automatically 24/7, we have built in motion sensors and power saving routines to ensure your car's battery won't be drained and turn-by-turn tracking kicks in automatically from the moment you start the car.

I actually just went for a drive so feel free to check out our demo account and view the path I took at https://www.trackmyride.com.au/demo

perhaps in melbourne. not in sydney.

100% Australian built is a big call for electronics devices.

Clarification : We designed our hardware with our manufacturer in Europe and have the PCB's built in Europe too however final assembly and programming is completed by our team here in Aus. All our software was and still is built here in Australia.

  • What are typical data usage rates?

    • All data usage is included in the subscription (After the 3 month free period). On average we record a data point every 15 seconds while moving. Our plans range in cost from $12.50 -> $25 a month, more info at www.trackmyride.com.au/#pricing

      • So the unit is not usable without a subscription? What if I use my own SIM?

Also you should quote the yearly subscription cost, as it’s not available monthly.

        • +1

Yes, you need a subscription to our service as it's a fully managed tracking system, not DIY via SMS messages as the cheap ones on eBay are. We offer both annual and monthly pricing, just click the monthly option in the pricing table to see monthly pricing.

  • Thinking of renting out my year Ford econavan camper, when Im not using it.
It is manual, only small 2litre 4cyl engine, and I am worried about if renter thrashes the engine or does burnouts or anything else bad for the engine..
Will this be able to tell at all if engine os being mistreated ? I have heard rental companies can tell if you have been treating engine badly, I think by checking/monitoring torque or something, Im not quite sure.

    • We can detect harsh acceleration and harsh braking with the TMR-S7 series, this is generally how vehicle abuse is detected. We have our next generation hardware in development at the moment which will be able to read the direct engine load levels. ETA on the new model is around another 4-6 months.
