Canon 50mm F1.8 $142 ($199 at JB Hi-Fi) @ Digital Camera Warehouse.

I went to JB Hi-Fi today and got one price matched at $142, no problems.

They are usually $199. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/cameras/Lenses/canon/canon-ef-50mm…

these days I would normally recommend EF 40 2.8 STM pancake over nifty fifty. sharp wide open, takes so little space on and off the body, better portrait option for cropped sensor, and a bit more useful as a walk around lens.

but go for 50 if you need that low light capabilities as in shooting at night a lot.

depends on what you do at the end of the day.

    • are you using full frame or ASPC? cheers

      • 1.6 crop, why?

The 40mm is certainly a better choice than the 50mm on crop as it is wider but I would go with a Sigma 30mm 2.8 ART for only a little extra if the field of view is what you are most concerned with. On full frame you can't beat value for money with the 50mm, especially this STM one.

I own both the non STM and the STM version of the 50mm as well as the 40mm STM and have used them all on my previous 600D and now on my 6D. Wouldn't pass up the cheap 50mm STM for any of the others.

The old plastic fantastic! Best bang for buck lense you can get on a Canon.

    • Totally agree. USM and L users would say it's noisy and slow, but for that price, it's sweet as and takes beautiful shots.

  • +1 for nifty fifty, had mine for years and love it.. this is a great price too

  • Can I use this with the a6000?

    • Possibly via some clunky adapter. A6000 is Sony and kinda compact, from what I see. This lens is Canon's EF lens.

  • Does it come with a lens hood? Got one from JB, but there isn't a hood in the box.

    • I doubt it. It's the cheapest lens. (Still, very good value!)

    • No, mine didn't come with a lens hood either.
