Can anyone confirm if other controllers work with this console.

Literally the first comment thread from the previous deal.

I had a Shield delivered last week. It seems the only thing which can fully control the device loaded with a mix of Android TV apps for TV's which are controlled by the provided Bluetooth controller and side-loaded Phone/Tablet type apps which are intended to be controlled by touchscreen, is the Logitech Harmony hub costing around $150.

As I have mostly phone/tablet type streaming apps I use an airmouse with a USB receiver. This is fine for the side-loaded apps but not for the Shield's operation. So I have to have both remotes to hand and continually switch between them.

I think the best Android TV media player to be loaded with a mix of TV and phone apps is the Mecool M8S proL as it can be operated most of the time with an airmouse and for less than half the price of the Shield.

I have both mecool and shield, I wish I never bought the mecool and put the money into a second shield instead.

    • I have a ouya controller that works fine, I think any bluetooth controller will work if its made for android.

I suppose its a deal, but you can get it for $245 not on eBay sale so its not a huge saving

Got one and love it. Only issue i would say is the remote is super sensitive and just pumping it can activate the google voice command. Its also really small and gets lost easily.

when I recommend the shield I always pair it with a recommendation to get logitech harmony (whatever you version you want, just get the hub). that remote is great, and logitech harmony is also pretty great.
if you're just running TV+shield, justifying the cost is probably difficult. but as soon as you add another device, whether it's a receiver or xbox/blu ray player/whatever, harmony really shines.

      pumping it?….

    • My Hisense remotes works via HDMI CEC and is great for the shield tv.
I even have it auto turn on and fires up the Yamaha amp.

I only use harmony hub with Google for voice commands now - so not very often. Works with gas heater though…

  • price is not good.
    Will wait for cheaper price.

    Great device, I own one.

However, prices are artificially high at the moment. The RRP of this device is AUD$249. You can but it from nvidia for this price with free shipping. No one is selling it at this price on eBay.

    • And the wholesale price is close to $200. They could definitely go lower in future :P

    • Why are they artificially high?

  • A buck cheaper using code PENNY5 / PLUG5 here:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NVidia-Shield-TV-Box-Android-Sma…

    …and here:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/nVidia-Shield-TV-Box-Android-Sma…

They would be cracker deals at 15% / 20% off.

  • LMFAO! SERIOUSLY $285 VS $239.

I regret not jumping onto the Computer Alliance deal. Would very much prefer to support those guys by purchasing off them.

Bad luck for me. I guess I'll have to hold out till they have another sale.

    • Where does $239 come from?

      • As Kirt posted above. Those linked are 239.

Just me laughing at the current original price difference.
