  • So deposit 500 and then to avoid the $5 fee deposit 2000 within the month?

    • +4

Probably deposit $2,000 and it would cover both I'd say, if someone can confirm?

      • +5

        ✅ confirmed

        • Done - opted out of everything too

c'mon 55 days!!! (and two deposits of $2000)

  • Found it to be too much of a hassle and ended up closing it 2 months later or something.
ING was just too good but the PSN/Nintendo online offer would've kept me staying if they were still available.

    • +9

I'll be closing mine after 55 days, as soon as I get the free $75

      • +1

I didnt like their password requirements too… Made it harder and it had to be different from my other banks.

At least Westpac's offer has cardless cash which makes them a little more unique, otherwise NAB + ING is best combination never any monthly fees + best rates and requirements.

Having instant transfers when depositing cash from NAB to ING is a godsend too, it just keeps getting better and better.

        • +2

I agree, I really like ING too. But I wouldn't have realised that if I didn't sign up for their cashback offer

        • +2

The Macquarie Platinum account offer was just as good. No minimum deposits. No currency exchange fees and good rates. No other fees.

        • There is a bug in their application form. You can type in a symbol in the 2nd password prompt but not the first.

        • @niknah:

I signed up for their cashback offer last yr… And their systems just annoyed the hell out of me kind of like how ubank does.

Like ubank is best value but they piss me off when I can't even load their site or when they're on maintenance etc.

ING simple, works 24/7 and havn't had a day when I couldn't access my money.

          • @Zeral: With all due respect, imho, I prefer UBank and moved all family expense to UBank. Granted, the UI is a bit 'Techie', but we rarely use it anyway since we've channeled all expense to reward credit cards.
            1. No account fee, No international FX, ATM fees (Mostly identical)
            2. 2.87%, with a simple $20 deposit, ALWAYS. Not like some introduction offer which you have to churn again and again. (Prefer not to move savings, as joint account holder both needs to move)
            3. Live Sweep, ALWAYS works when cash withdraw is required. Withdrew $900 last time with only $100 in account, live steeped out of savings, from an ANZ ATM, for free. It's Bananas!
            4. Life Sweep, for Direct Debit. Meaning I could set up Credit Card repayments to Ultra(Transaction account), while leaving all balance in USaver earning max interest, while not needing to worry about bouncing any credit card payments.

            • @jacktator: It's not about the features or offers, it's that I can't log in when needed or use the money.

They might've changed now but I remember ubank didn't work when I was trying to buy a phone on the day the google pixel 1 was announced.

I couldn't even link it to my paypal or psn account or had alot of troubles with it or something, can't exactly remember.

They might've matured now but God they sucked back then

    • Just wondering what kind of PSN/Nintendo offer ING gets you.

      • Talking about bank of Melbourne's 10% cashback offer for PSN/Nintendo etc.

ING just had a high savings with $1k deposit and a very simple APP interface that simply works.
Westpac is kinda catching up to them and is using 4 pin digit vs the competitions 8 letter/digit inconvenience.

  • I’ll give it a go.

Can this account be closed by ringing up or visiting a branch?

    • Taken from T&C's:
You or any other authorised person can close your
accounts at any time simply by asking at any branch.
Most accounts can also be closed by calling
      Phone Banking.

    • We just included an internet banking feature to close credit cards online, but as the other response stated, in branch or over the phone for banking accounts at this time.

  • If i have a westpac account in the past, am i still eligible for this?

    • +1

Excludes customers who have held a Complete Freedom Account with BankSA, St.George Bank or Bank of Melbourne anytime from 3 September 2017.

Doesn't mention Westpac or other account types

      • I can't remember if I closed my BankSA account by then or if I even did.

  • I really can't be stuffed doing this for 75$ but I will. Keeps crashing when trying to setup an account.

    • Looks like it briefly crashed but is working now

  • +1

It will be nice when the St George gang finally get PayID. The deal cost me 30 cents in interest!

  • +2

Any ideas if this has Apple Pay and PayID?

    • We don’t support either at this stage. :(

      • Just replying to you Koulie so you'll get notified, seems like I cannot private mesasge you.

I still haven't received my $75. I called up Bank of Melbourne today on 13 22 66 at 5pm and spoke to a lady there.

She said to me that the Bank of Melbourne have never ever had a $75 promotion, she said she searched for all the 'campaigns' they have ever ran and cannot find one for $75, and said she asked her supervisor and they've never heard of a $75 promotion either. I pointed out that the promotion was posted to ozbargain and that a lot of people have said they received their $75, and she just said that it 'didn't matter what third party websites said'. I also pointed out that I heard here that the promotion was extended and changed to $50. Again, she said that does not happen (she said "campaigns don't change, that can't happen") and there's never been a $75 promotion.

So what's going on? Do some staff just have no idea this promotion was ran? The lady I spoke to said she'd searched for all campaigns that they've ever ran over the last year and couldn't find any for $75 though. Or did I call the wrong department? How do I contact someone about this? I've met all the criteria and have not received the $75 bonus.

    Online form has been OzBargained

  • Is this restricted to any location? I’m in WA and their website said I can’t create an account

  • I entered all my details, and then when I clicked "Send SMS" an error appeared saying that they are having technical difficulties and returned to the homepage.

    Anyone else experience this?

    • +1

      Yes. Will try again later.

    • +2

      Yep. Ozbargained.

    • Yes, they sent an email to continue application and it then worked

  • Thnx

  • +1

so can i deposit $2000 and couple of days later transfer out? will i still get the $75?

    • +1

Transfer it out as soon as it appears in your account

      • easy.. T and C doesn't say the funds must be kept for 55 days..so all good then. thanks

  • +1

I have received message below when I applied. How long did you have wait before you received this email?

    We have received your details.
We're putting the last touches on your account and we'll send an email once it's good to go. This normally takes one business day, but it could take up to two.

    • Same here because we did not given two forms of identification proof. My wife has given two and her accounts got opened instantly

      • But I gave them both Drivers Licence and Medicare card details.

  • +1

I tried few times opening the account but the online application either timed out or the screen froze. After talking to customer service they advised the offer is only for residents of Melbourne?!!! Can anyone confirm they had issues with opening the account (NSW residents) because if it is correct then the title is misleading.

    • having same issue. i never received sms for the application after couple of tries. WTH?? doesn't mention in the T&C for the Melbourne resident only..

    • Bank of Melbourne is known as St George in Sydney (same bank). This offer is targeted to Melbourne customers.

  • this would have no effect on credit history right?
dont know why they still verify id with equifax?

is there any problem to open too many saving accounts for the bonus $ ???

    • +2

As of end of this year banks will being communicating more details to credit reporters, it mainly impacts credit cards, personal and home loans but if you have a transaction account such as this one, and it goes to arrears by accident it will be reported.

  • Kept getting my identification details unable to be verified by Equifax on their site (used driver's license and medicare card). Now says I have to visit a branch to verify my identity before withdrawing. I'm in WA and their site says a St. George bank is my nearest branch. Anybody know if I can verify there?

    • I think you won't be able to claim the $75 cashback as it is only opened to residents of Victoria. The title is misleading. You can have your identity verified at St George as it is the same banking group.

      • Terms and conditions does not say "Only for VIC Offer". I am NSW and I have applied for account.

  • +1

Yeh this is quickly slipping into the "CBF" category.

  • Does anyone know what requirements there are to verify full-time student status?

    • A valid student ID. If you’re 21 or younger you are fee exempt. :)

  • So can anyone verify if it works when applying outside of Melbourne/Victoria

    • I tried..it doesn't work

    • My wife's work (Outside of Vic, we are in NSW). It only does not work if your profile is already with Bank.

  • Sorry, we seem to be experiencing problems

    don't bother to try anymore

  • "As a full time student or apprentice, you're eligible to receive $0 monthly account service fee"
"$250 for customers under 21 or studying full time"
so for full time students, deposit $250 for 55 days and get $75.

  • +1

Anyone else not receiving the activation code?

  • So I had an ANZ rewards platinum which I closed over 12 months ago and currently have the ANZ platinum low fee, would I still be ellegible for this card?

  • I am in WA, is this applicable for me, or is it only for Melbourne customers.

  • Are we required to deposit $2000 for 2 months (Sept and Oct) to be able to cash out the $75 cashback? If one deposits just $2000, I assume the net cashback would be $70 instead of $75 (due to the $5 monthly fee which is applied to the account in case $2000 not deposited by the last business day of each month)

  • For those who CBF, at the earn rate, this is equivalent to a term deposit rate of 12.45% p.a.? Still CBF?

    12.45% * 55/365 * $4000 = A$75

  • +1

This account is so archaic they should be paying customers $75 every month to keep it. No PayID, No NPP, No Apple Pay.
    It's like 2009 and it's NOT a party.

  • "Who can open

    18+ years old

If you are under 18, a full time tertiary student, including apprentice open a Complete Freedom for Student account and get your monthly account service fee waived.
Those with an Australian residential address and who are currently in Australia"

It seems to say anyone can join. I want to get that $75.

  • can i sign up and then pull the $500 out again asap?

    • or do i have to keep it in there for months?

      • As above, transfer it straight out

  • I don't see why someone outside of Victoria can't apply. As long as you're able to do the verification online, there shouldn't be a problem. They just seemed to be slow at processing the accounts over the weekend, but seem to be doing that now

    • I'm not in Victoria. I called them to apply (the webpage wasn't working for me for some bizarre reason). I told them where I lived. They let me apply. They said my card will be sent to the nearest St George branch for me to pick up (I assume St George must be affliated with Bank of Melbourne for my state…)

      • Tell them not to bother sending the card….

  • +2

God I hate how they make you go in and verify ID.

  • Their account number has 10 digit. Should be only 9 right ?

It has leading zero. not sure if that's an error.

  • "when you deposit at least $2,000 by the last business day of every month"

Does this mean you have to keep the money in there? Or can I deposit in 2000, and then withdraw it, once a month to avoid the fee?

  • Thanks for this. Applied. Let the $75 good times roll.

  • How can a website be so bad?

  • +1

I applied for this account but still havent been able to verify my id. Does that mean i wont be eligible for the $75 promo?

  • +2

Has anyone outside of VIC been able to confirm their ID? I've got an email asking me to go to a branch to confirm ID to unlock withdraw, but I'm in regional NSW.

    • You can go to any st. George branches to confirm ID

  • This promo has been extended until early January 2019, although benefit reduced to $50.

  • Anyone got their money yet?

    • You need to have the account open for 55 days first

  • +1

Payday is coming soon, can't wait to take the free $75 and close the account.

    • Lets see if they actually pay the money, I have a bad feeling this will require a complaint phone call.

  • Received the amount today (10th November)!

    • Same here… Time to close my account ☺️

  • Received $75 yesterday so time to close the account as well.

  • Boom!

So, easiest way to close an account with these guys?

  • Roger that. Got the 75$ now to wait before end of the month to close. I think over the phone is the easiest way to do so

  • Received the money too.. just need to close the account now. Will give that a go next week. If anyone manages to close their account, please share what is the easiest way. Thanks.

    • +2

Just give em a call, and request for account closure. That's what i did, easy.
Make sure you're not owing them any amount before termination.

      • Thanks for the info.

  • I got the $75 too.

I'll have to tell them when closing the account to not bother sending me the debit card next time.

  • I still haven't received my $75.

@Koulie any ideas? Has anyone else called up Bank of Melbourne and got no info?

    • saintmagician0
So do you feel like you are going crazy? This is quite amazing.
I opened 2 of these accounts (one for my son) I received the $75 for both. I have now closed the accounts to avoid the monthly fee and received a mailed statement which shows the $75 deposit and the entry states Account opening offer. I am not be able to scan it till tomorrow morning but will post it then. This sort of thing is happening more often and I now try to keep snaps of the offer just in case, although I do not recall if there was anything like that for this offer or just a link. These promotions are designed, I assume to attract people to continue banking with them but my experience has not been great. They seem unusually old fashioned in requiring personal attendance to do an id. check and want you to start online banking in their presence.

      • Hey, yeah I definitely felt like I was going crazy. The lady on the phone seemed to have never heard of ozbargain (not sure if real or freigned), which I found wierd.

Anyway, it seems like I got my $75 after all. I notice today, I have $75 deposited. The description says "rev of account fee" (i assume standing for 'reverse of account fee'). Which is a bit odd because we never paid a fee for these accounts. So I assume the lady I spoke to eventually realized / found out I wasn't lying about the $75 bonus, and manually added it for me.

So I guess I got my money after all, but it's still a bit odd. Maybe there was a lack of communication such that some of the staff really had no idea this promotion ran =S

Anyway, hopefully anyone else who calls up and has the same experience as me will end up with the same outcome ($75 manually added).

        • Good outcome. The only explanation I can think of is that this is all done automatically and the staff do not even know about it. At least it looks that are are not trying to cheat people as they did give you the money. It does sound like it was done manually as the wording is not the same as in my statement.

          • +1

@Yola: Yeah, that's what I figured. Their staff must not be aware of it.

Which is bad because it just leads to confusion all round. The lady i spoke to was probably as confused / fustrated as I was!

        • That must be added manually. The wordings that I got: Special Reward (Income) Account Opening Offer.

I assume that I've to include this in my tax return in the coming year.
