Everyone has their favourite brand, but I prefer TomTom (tried Garmin and Navman too). Worth comparing the 'specials' direct from TomTom to ebay prices when they have a % off sale.

Also watch out for the lifetime maps as it's what TomTom consider the life of the model, not the actual life. I still have perfectly good Go720 which they long ago gave up on (as well as a 6000).

Any TomTom that uses TomTom Home software can easily be hacked to manually install maps. They are easy to find for this device and patched with the latest FastActivate software. Was doing this on an older discontinued model till it died and I purchased a new one with lifetime world maps and cameras.

Also those who owned models that have an internal sim that was used to access the now discontinued 2G network for live traffic updates were offered cash credit towards newer model or replacement models by TomTom because of this.

      • Yes, quite a few good features on the older models that have been dropped, or are harder - Mapshare corrections, customs POI's and yes load your own maps. I didn't know about FastActivate - ta.

  • Ahh the fabled GPS. Pepperidge farm remembers
