Only if it was 3 Months Netflix plus $20 gift card :)

  • +1

Is an eBay plus membership worth the $29? It seems most items that are eligible have free shipping anyway, so the 'free shippings' perk isn't much of one. The free returns is nice though I have never had the need to return an item and hopefully will not need to. What else?

    • +4

I would say it's only just worth the $29 but not worth $49. Depends on what you buy. I bought a few books with free shipping on Plus and more than covered the $29 fee. Plus I have had a few offers for no fee selling and bigger discounts during promo periods. YMMV though…

    • +2

Is an eBay plus membership worth the $29?

Only if it would save you more than $29 off what you'd normally buy there over the year.

      • -1

This is in fact what I am trying to determine with my question.

        • +2

How do you expect other OzBargainers to know how much you normally spend on ebay???

          • -1

@jv: To spell it out: I am not sure where the opportunities to save money even are with eBay plus. You can save money on free shipping, but all Plus items I've found so far already have free shipping. You can save money with free returns but as I've mentioned this is hopefully going to be a very rare occurrence. What other opportunities exist to save money with eBay Plus? I am willing to do the value calculation on my own once I know this. @abc helpfully pointed out that there are offers for no-fee selling, and bigger discounts during promo periods. I didn't previously know this, and armed with this knowledge can try to work out whether I save more than $29 or not. I do not expect ozbargainers to do the value calculation for me.

        • +1

I've saved about $45 bucks over the past 2 months - so i think it's worth it.

        • +1

I saved a lot more than the $29 when I bought some software and the price difference between free shipping or add on shipping is huge, I chose the add on shipping option because it is covered by ebay plus.

    • +1

I think it was in the start when sellers were abusing the postage and we were getting ~$12 64gb micro sd cards.

But then eBay got cranky and started culling sellers. Ironically the most beneficial time to have a membership was during the initial launch period and grabbing the free trial.

    • +2

Savings I've made so far due to Ebay Plus:

      • Extra $30 saving on cheapest avaliable price on a phone from ebay plus 25% sale
      • 20k extra flybuy points from ebay plus promotions. Worth $100
      • Free shipping on 128gb samsung evo sd card. Additional $15 saving on cheapest avaliable.
      • Conveniences of ebay free return. Don't have to claim through paypal.

Total savings $145 less $29 fee = $116 savings and I still have 9 months left in my subscription

      • Yeah it's saved me at least $100 but that was before the crack down on sellers.

      • I was on eBay Plus trial. Joined to buy a micro SD card. Guess what, that card is currently collecting dust (haven't opened yet).
You only actually save if that item is a must. Too often we use the saving / discount as an excuse to spend money to buy gadgets which we don't really need.

        • That's true, I had to service my bike. Filter + battery . Fixed my laptop with a new charger and new PSU and motherboard for my PC had plenty of use for it.

I don't think it will be worth it to renew after the $29 I paid though

    • from the ebay plus email last week

"The average eBay buyer spends $43 in delivery and returns costs every year. Join eBay Plus now for only $29 and get free delivery & returns on millions of items."

the average ozbargainer would pay $0 delivery and return

      • Haha. The average eBay user signing up for eBay plus will abuse it.

    • It is $49

    • -1

I went through >6 emails, photos, chat… trying to return one of those $400 Dyson hair dryers which I only bought bcos of ebay plus.
Bing lee wanted to charge me a restocking fee (it was like new, w/ all the disposable plastic wrappings still in place), ebay was being diplomatic… would've been nice just to have been able to return it no questions.
      So ebay minus more like.
It's a sales thing… people are more likely to shop more if they think they can return something they don't even need/want.
      Stan, meh.

Get it if you get a good ebay plus deal, like 25% site wide.

      • … like 25% site wide… ROFL

  • The only other thing is double flybuys points. Which are pretty few to begin with, so only a negligible increase.

I’m not planning on rejoining as it stands as I don’t see any plus free delivery sellers against what I normally buy any more.

    • -1

The only other thing is double flybuys points.

      Big deal…

    • I just checked my flybuys points and have accrued enough since joining eBay Plus to redeem fro $70 worth of eBay vouchers. So that's an extra $35 worth there assuming they're all the result of double points, so that alone cover my back my $29 eP membership.

  • How do we actually redeem the stan trial?

    • +3

They'll send you a redemption code and then you can go here and redeem it.

      • I'm already an ebay plus subscriber. Didn't get an email or anything.

        • +1

Neither did I, they're most likely still getting ready to send the emails out, the promo only went live this morning, thats just the redemption page you'll need to use

          • -3

@doweyy: or they'll just change the T&C's and not tell you and not send you anything…

            • +1

@jv: I thought we already covered this in the GHM promo, jv - you signed up for deal A, so T&Cs for deal A apply to you, not those from deal B the following month.

Also, as per T&Cs point 10.3 "eBay may amend these Terms at any time by posting the amended terms on eBay.com.au." - if you don't agree, don't sign up!

              • -1

                @dm01:

I thought we already covered this in the GHM promo, jv

Yep, they honoured the deal as it was when i signed up, but it's a hassle to follow it up with them and you need to keep screen shots of the T&C's and conversations… Not worth the hassle.

                • +1

@jv: There was nothing to honour - they paid you off for being a PITA to them!

                  • @dm01:

                    There was nothing to honour

They also apologised for their mistake.

                    • @jv: Oh I have no doubt they were sorry, but it wouldn't have been for any mistake on their part…but you keep on believing, brother, you wave your little flag!

                      • @dm01:

Oh I have no doubt they were sorry

                        Yes, they seemed sincere…

          • @doweyy: I've just received my email ;)

    • +2

If you had been a part of previous Stan trial, don't use that payment method for this offer or you will be resubscribed at basic plan immediately.

The free part will be update to Stan premium for 3 months.

      Been the done that….

  • So wait, to get the $20 you need to have already completed the trial?

    • +1

You need to pay for ebay Plus, so the trial doesn't count.

  • I get this message when clicking through:

"Unfortunately, you can no longer sign up for this promotional offer because it has expired."
    ??

  • Chat bomb spam eBay support

  • are existing eBay Plus members with fully paid annual Plus membership on 15 October 2018; or

Does this mean if you signed up say in September and on 15/10 (Today) the membership is still active we get the Stan thing?

Hope it does! =) Seems like something you can argue on Chat if it doesn't. It's worded like it works retroactively.

    • +1

The terms and conditions on eBay state we should get our email at 6pm today.

      • +2

Sweet! I won't hold them to 6PM but i'll expect one this week. Will give them a follow up if not.

Just a review from my personal experience.

I joined the Ebay plus trial program to save $15 on delivery from Computer alliance.

I forgot to cancel the trial and was charged $49. I spoke to chat on the day I was charged hoping to reverse it. It is a firm no as it is non refundable. They gave me a $20 voucher as a trade off.

I got another $20 voucher presumably for signing up during a promotion period.

I now have 3 months Stan for free.

All up i'm definitely out ahead and i still have 350 days of the thing left.

Anyways my personal experience, your own mileage may vary but this is better than Amazon for me currently.

  • -1

Lol who watches Stan anyways… Netflix would have been more attractive.

    • -1

Why not throw in a coffee maker as well?
Would that be 'attractive'or would you want a 300$ gift card to even consider it? Lol

      • I asked for Netflix, you went to the end of the spectrum and asked for a coffee maker. That's a bad argument.

        • -1

My argument was amazing, but you fail to see it.

Of course they not gonna give you three months of Netflix and a year of eBay plus for 29$, people pay more than half of that for just a month of Netflix.

And its a well established service, needs no promotion really.

Unlike Stan that has a bad rep

          • @nikoris: Playstation Plus can give you up to 3 months Netflix free with your yearly subscription. If eBay wanted to push for its plus membership, should have stuck to the promotion of a free google home mini or something of equivalent value.

    • +1

I watch both Stan and Netflix. It's not one or the other, it's both for me as Stan definitely also has a lot of content our household likes to watch.
The issue is I just got the code from ebay and the code doesn't work for existing Stan customers. and I'm not signing up with another email just for this.

So yes, this code is supplied to existing ebay plus customers but won't work for existing Stan customers, which is total BS IMO.

      • The code does work for existing customers, but only if you are on the standard plan (it upgrades you to premium, which is a bit useless)

But if on premium already, yes it does not work.

        • I'm on premium. So I need to downgrade my plan only for it to upgrade me?

          • @[Deactivated]: Only if your payment is due in the next 7 days. Otherwise the voucher code will expire anyway. Can't promise you if you downgraded and dropped to standard within 7 days the code would work anyway.

  • +1

Those that are asking about pre-existing membership:

    https://pages2.ebay.com.au/plus/terms-and-conditions

    See section 8.
    8.2.4 are existing eBay Plus members with fully paid annual Plus membership on 15 October 2018;

8.8 Redemption links will be sent to Eligible Customers via email and/or eBay Message Centre message according to the following timelines:
    8.8.1 For Eligible Customers under clause 8.2.4, at 6pm on 15 October 2018;

  • I signed up late last month and am still waiting for my $50 eBay gift card. T&Cs said I should have had it in 7 days (so by Sep 28th). eBay chat said between Oct 3rd and 31st. Piss poor.

    • i am still waiting for my google mini :(

      • Got mine 3 days after my payment went through. Drop them a message on chat and get it checked.

        • i dropped them like 20 something messages, they just keep saying it has been forwarded or look into.

then on the last message they said it's delivered to the wrong address and asked for the correct address LOL.

          • @h4zey: Wtf? How'd they manage that? They just used my preferred mailing address from my eBay account…Did you check your address in that?

            • @Munki: yea lol, updated that even before sign up for ebay plus.

either way that was their latest excuse from 3 weeks ago, i sent them the correct one since, yet still have not receive anything. I sent them a new message this morning, we shall see lol.

              • @h4zey: Should hassle them every day from now on until you receive it. I did notice they give themselves like a month's time to have it delivered. The sneaky bastards.

              • @h4zey: Beware there is no easy way to update addresses in eBay - there are literally 3 or 4 different pages you need to visit and update details in, same with phone numbers. It's the most backward system I've come across with any company I've dealt with.

                • +1

@dm01: agree to that, it was not my first time updating the address, but i made sure i updated everything including the paypal that link to my ebay account but alas, the folks there still delivered it to the old address (or at least that's what they claim after hassling there for over 2 months).

    • +1

      Same here!

  • +1

Still regret my $29 ebay plus purchase…. would defo not do it again

    • What did you buy?

      • +6

        Ebay plus membership

  • From the Terms and conditions, it sounds like if you're an existing Stan subscriber, you will get bumped up to three months of premium if you redeem the code? Otherwise it's just for the standard plan if you don't already have Stan.

So presuming that if you're like me and already subscribe to Stan premium plan, you should just three free months added on. Nice!

    • I can't see why anyone would be an existing Stan subscriber.
I tried it for 3 months years ago when it came free with a PS4 remote.
No good content, and what was there, was poor quality in a buggy app :(

      • +2

I've had it from the beginning, but it's definitely gotten a lot better.

Now supports 4K & HDR (at least 4K - not 100% sure on HDR), although there isn't AS much content that supports it compared to Netflix, and they're getting a lot more Aussie exclusives now.
It's a better service in Australia overall than Amazon Prime I think!
The mobile app also lets you download content, similar to Netflix and Amazon.
It's still not as smooth and intuitive as Netflix of course, but nothing really is, and for an Aussie service I think it's pretty decent!

        • Competition is always good, and I'm glad to hear it's getting better.
Really felt like the GoCatch of streaming services (not even the OlaCab or Didi).

    • From section 8.2.7. of the eBay Plus T&Cs

and excludes customers who are existing subscribers to the Stan Service Premium Plan :(

Not sure why that was omitted from the Stan Promo T&Cs, I’ve updated the description.

      • +1

Ohh damn, I'm out of luck then :(
        Thanks for the heads-up!

  • Good deal ;)

  • If I get my 3 free months of Stan code at 6pm, the upvote is all yours! (Already a eBay plus member)

EDIT: reading the T&C’s it just sounds like I get upgraded to premium for free for the 3 months, (still have to pay for my existing plan). :( Too good to be true.

  • Just received the email for 3 Months of Stan with eBay Plus

  • Just got my email, too.

  • +1

Anyone having problems redeeming this? Using the link in the email and the voucher code field is blank. Redirected link has no code either:

    https://www.stan.com.au/ebay?promotionCode=

    • +1

When I clicked on the link, it redirected to an eBay page with the promo code already pre-filled.

      • Thanks mate. I'll contact eBay.

    • Same for me, just blank.

      • Did 'chat support' for ebay plus members, csr said they would escalate to marketing and 'get back to me'.

        We'll see.

    • Issue for me was that I had signed up for a trial on 2 accounts. One of those was expired, and I was opening the email from the account that was expired. The email in the account thats still current worked fine.

  • email received, can I remove auto renewal?

  • +1

Stan email states the code must be redeemed within 7 days of receiving redemption link.

  • +2

If you've used the free Stan trial before this offer becomes a lot less attractive. Instead of 3 free months you get 3 months of Stan Premium for $12 a month.

Probably worth creating a new account instead!

    • That's not what the deal says though.

If you've used the fee trial but not a current subscriber you should get 3 months free.

If you are currently subscribing you should get an upgrade (although it seems like it won't downgrade you back when done though)

      • +1

I used a previous free trial and when using the ebay code it said I would have free access until 15/1/19. Once I signed in it had charged my credit card $12 but in account history also says 3 month ebay promotion so something is definitely not right with their system. It does say for new subscribers so I guess if you ever had an account, create a new one or you'll be charged.

        • I was previously fee paying with Stan (not just a free trial) and I am currently fee paying with eBay Plus. Clicked through with this Stan promo and, like you, it charged me the first $12/month even though the eBay 3 months promo is listed in Manage Account in Stan. Essentially one in this situation gets $9 of value from this eBay/Stan promotion (difference between Stan Standard [not even Stan Basic!] and Stan Premium) but one will be an extra $36 out of pocket in order to get that value. "Another benefit for our valued eBay Plus members" - yeah, right.

  • Is there any other 3 month free Stan deals going at the moment?

    • If only there were some way to search all deals on this site through some convenient mechanism. Alas, we can only dream…

  • I created a brand new email address (as I was a previous Stan user) but still get you can't sign up as you previously had an account and it wanted to charge me $12 a month. I even changed some details but still doesn't like it. I wonder if it is because I am using the same credit card as previously?

Any previous subscribers able to use the promotion code?

    • +1

Yeah pretty sure you need different credit card too.

  • +1

I was a previous ‘user’ , used my wife’s name and different credit card than last time and it worked for me.

  • my partners account got a Get 3 Months of Stan with eBay Plus email but she doesnt have plus. and it doesnt have a voucher code.

and my account is ebay plus and i haven't got an email….???

    • I got an eBay message when signed in on the website, not an actual email.

      • Ditto, which is off considering I usually get an email saying I got a message…

    • all my family accounts got the link and none are ebay plus LOL

  • I signed up to ebay plus back when it came with a free Google home mini and I recieved the Stan offer today.
