  • Picked up the same deal (or similar, I forget the exact price) for a birthday pressie for my girlfriend earlier this year. A whole lot of camera for that price!

  • +1

yeh, those are non IS lenses, and this model is due for a replacement like any day now.
good if you just want a toy, the 18-55mm is quite poor, and you won't get much use from the 75-300 w/o IS.

75-300 produces good results on a sunny day :)

it really depends on the photographer. the best camera in the hands of the worst photographer will produce the worst photo.

No mention of THANKS to mad__llama for his mention about this deal on a previous thread- http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/40875
mad__llama's gonna be so mad at you !!!

    • +1

I didnt click into that deal, was just looking at DSLRs for myself. But well done mad_llama.

Naa, I try to be more wild-and-crazy-mad as opposed to angry-mad. I'm pretty zen about most things :)

In all honesty I was too lazy to post it up myself, so it was fair game…

  • Can anyone help me out here?
I'm heading overseas to China for a family holiday and I'm in a silly dilemma. Buy my first DSLR for the trip, which would most likely be the 1000D, or just use a mediocre P&S camera/iPhone for the trip and wait until the 2000D comes out? Will they be similar in price (1000D and 2000D)?

    Cheers.

    • No such thing as a 2000D, 1100D is the successor.

  • pity this doesn't have a video mode, otherwise i'd be on my way to officeworks right now. it's still a really good deal though since you're getting two lenses ;)

  • From specs 500d seems like a better camera and gray imports can be had with twin IS lens kit for around this price. Any opinions?

    • if no one replies here… good place to ask might be http://www.dpreview.com

    • LOL !

Where can you get a 500D twin IS kit for this price delivered?!?

    • you won't get it for less than $700 or $800 i'm sure. not with a twin lens kit for sure, even if it is an import.

  • Tried officeworks vic park but all gone. The computer said there was 1 left in east Perth (but is probably an error) and 1 in osborne park. Ended up getting jb at carousel to price match.

  • I cant believe that they are still selling this POS camera and for 549????? geezz

    • +2

      POS - Ellaborate?

      • piece of %$%# - With the current crop of entry level dslr at their current price point - does anyone seriously think the camera is worth this much? When is was new, it was already a bastardised version of the 450d. Now, 2+ years later, anyone who thinks that this is a good deal seriously needs to do more research and most probably look beyond the "Canon" brand.

        • kbryant obviously quite an emotional post.

Ive got this camera and the only real disadvantages i see with it are the fact that it has max iso1600 and no spot metering. When compared with my friends 500D (same IS lens) you cannot tell the two photos apart in day time.

I think the photosnobs may argue otherwise, but with these entry level dslr's, the proof is in the pudding.

  • Buy the camera, sell the lenses and buy one good walk around lens which will last you 20+ years.

  • This any good for Airshows.. Thinking of picking up a entry level DSLR to replace my P&S
