NBN Essential Promo: Unlimited Nbn50 for $62.95 Per Month (Save $7.04) + $99 Modem (or 12 Months + $1 Modem) @ MyRepublic

71

I am currently looking for an nbn50 deal, this is the best I could find (anyone have any better, I'd sure like to know).

Going off ADSL contract this month (nbn available FTTN for the last few months at my address). It will be used for mainly catch up TV (sports streaming; F1, futbol), no Netflix, Stan or Foxtel on demand etc, no gaming.

I am leaning towards their 12-month plan which includes the modem for $1.00 and no delivery fee (their 'halo' model seems better), but I don't know about $99.00. Not too sure about porting my current landline number which incurs an additional $25.00 Fee, if not they give you a new number.

I do have my own modem (TP Link Archer D5 AC1200 Dual band, which I've looked up and says it's nbn compatible).

Any suggestions on modem (am I better off paying the extra $99.00 for the better modem?) and deal itself will be greatly appreciated.

Their spiel:

Blast Into Fast With This Limited Time Offer.

Order by the 8th November 2018 and get unlimited super-fast nbn™ for just $62.95 per month (usually $69.99 per month).

Choose between the No Lock-In contract and pay $99 upfront for a Wi-Fi Hub+ (min cost $161.95) or commit to a 12 month term and pay $1 upfront (min cost $756.40).

The Essential Promo plan uses nbn™ 50 — speeds will vary^.

When I was with MyRepublic, the only thing I got top-speeds to was speedtest.net, as if it was selectively unthrottled. I'd get 70+Mbps while Fast.com (Netflix servers) was crawling at 8Mbps. Wouldn't recommend.

I still use the MyRepublic modem though, which works fine with other ISP's. Probably not worth $99 though; as router it only supports 10 clients. Fine as modem though.

yeah it'll be QoS'd (on most if not all ISPs). you best bet is to try alternative Speedtest sites, not the default.

Sounds right. As per the TIO data, "MyRepublic received 1,816 complaints, a year on year increase of 101.6 per cent."

I used MyRepublic for about 18 long horrible months. I switched to Aussiebroadband about 6 months ago. So happy with the move - AussieBB are more expensive but any cost savings with MR will soon be forgotten when you are stuck on hold for hours at a time when they screw up.

  • +5

please, please, please don't use price as the only guide when look at NBN services. MR has a really bad reputation for congestion. Check out the feedback on whirlpool…!

Plz stay away from MyRepublic. I'm waiting for 12 months contract to expire. I'm on nbn100 plan and when I make a complain I start getting 94 to 96 MBps (no kidding) but in a day or two it drops down to 3 or 12 at best. You have to keep complaining. Sometimes u can do via email if you have an active ticket, but that doesn't last long. Try yourself, but calling their customer support takes about 40 mins on hold at average. And this may be a personal annoyance, that every time there's an issue, any issue, they ask you to factory reset the wifi, every. frikin. time.

    • Yes, it's true - after complaining of congestion, my speed went up, but mostly just to speedtest.net

When I was with MR, about once a fortnight my wifi would pack it in, which a reboot would fix.
Switched to ABB, still using the same MR modem. Been 2 months and haven't had to restart it once.

Wouldn’t recommend it. Please try exetel or fliptv or telechoice. Exetel is having promotions on nbn 50.
    Unlimited nbn50 data
    $59.99/mth
    43 Mbps Typical Evening Speed
Standard Plus nbn50 on 12-month plan
FREE activation | FREE WiFi modem

    • Thanks for that, I'll look right into that deal.

  • Positive comment here for MyR

I was with them for a year on their 100/40 plan

And had top speeds 95% of the time, only ever remember them dropping out once or twice

I'm now with Aussie Broadband and don't see any major differences. It's all dependent on your area

  • There is no other way to say this, MR are d1¢k h3@ds. I've wasted 4 hours waiting on the phone with them in the last week.

I originally thought, oh these guys can't be that bad, sure I've had a few problems, but nothing too serious. Problem is when you add up all the hours waiting on the phone, probably in excess of 10-12 hours and you put a price on your time, is not worth it.

    • Still on the phone now over 2hrs today and they still haven't answered, what awesome customer service.

  • I was with MR for a while, got onto the original top speed for $59.99. Stayed with it because it was cheap. Support was terrible. A couple of hours on the phone for anything and a reply a couple of days later via Facebook. I could accept this as I was saving about $30 a month vs competition. Switched to Mungi after MR increased prices, they were excellent and then switched to Vodafone (after Mungi canned the 100/40 tier plan) who are also excellent. Would not recommend MR at this price point.

  • Who would be some of the best NBN providers to go with at the moment taking in consideration their offer$, quality product and speed?

  • +1

The TPLink Archer D5 is an ADSL modem router. It would not be compatible with an NBN connection (FTTN). However, you can continue using it as a wifi router using the provided modem(HFC) or a separate FTTN modem. An NBN "Landline" connection also uses VOIP which the D5 does not support.

  • Exetel 50/20 is $59.99/month. Although I have no issues with MR, I'm thinking of switching over to them.

    • After I finish my amaysim 1 year free NBN plan, I will go with Exetel as well. Will be satisfied if the 50/20 plan can reach 30-40Mbps.

  • I have been with MR for 2 years. Speed has been good. There has been one outage that lasted a day. But yes, waiting period for customer care has always been in hours unless you call them really early in the morning.

  • +1

Guys, when you compare, I suggest you specify type of NBN used, HFC, FTTN, FTTC, FTTB, FTTP. So when you say you have probs with congestion are you referring to HFC because the cable is shared in the area, or other where they have more control ?

  • MyRepublic so slow. And dogdy. I never signed up to their $10 per month "gamer" add on, but they all or a sudden were charging me for it. Asked them to stop and to refund, they said they would.

Continued to charge it until I took to TIO and bailed on them. Even then they agreed to refund and never did.

  • NBN FTTP MyRepublic gave me <1mbps at peak times.

  • Not with then myself, but Belong is $65/mth 50/20. It includes $80 mobile credit and the potential referral credit for effective discount of up to $200.

Exetel gets my vote for their unlimited 50 Plan for $59.99 a month. Its cheaper and so far has been flawless for me.

FYI - Go through the online application up to the last step where you confirm the application. Then close the browser and wait approx 3 days. They will offer you a $20 credit via email if you continue with the application. This covers the postage on the modem and if you agree to a 12 month sign up, a free modem too :)

    • Thanks for the tip, I'll try this, much appreciated.

  • One of the worst ISP i have ever used..
    Customer service was ……….. Error 404 :P

even if they give 100$/ month i wont use them

    • +3

Why not? I will be happy to get $100/month from them and use the money to get another NBN connection.

  • I'm moving in to my first FTTP house, and also looking for a provider. Although this seems like a great price, it's a 12 month contract and if you hate the service, it's too bad.

I like the look of Kogan NBN, it's only a couple of dollars more but minimum charge is much lower, due to supply of the modem being optional.

    • This is a month to month service with the option of signing up to a 12-month plan.

  • People should check on Whirlpool and search what people are using in specific suburbs. NBN differs drastically between each and every suburb

  • Who is still with MyRepublic?

  • Not related to the post but I am using IPTV with my 25 mbps connections. It seems to be buffering all time but when i use youtube or netflix and both at the same time on my tv's. They work perfectly fine. I am with FLIP.

  • I have been with MR for 8 months and DL speed is pretty constant at 52-58. Before MR, my ADSL speed from TPG was between 2-3.Their customer service can be better but I tolerate it for the price I pay $69.99. My NBN connection is FTTN.

  • Do not use MR - look at feedback in this thread and everywhere on the internet.

    • I'm pro MyR :)

      • Probably because you've never had any problems.

        • Well obviously lol

  • +1

I would seriously steer clear of MyRepublic. I requested to remove the gamer's add on from my account in April 2018 which is an extra $10/month - it is now October, and I've had to personally call them every single month since then to follow up, tell them they've done jack shit and get a credit to my account. Bunch of morons. The support team are not based in Australia either, and there are better deals out there.

  • Thanks to all for bothering to input, it seems an overwhelming thumbs down for My Republic, as is most often the case, I am glad I shared with OzBargain.

I've also had issues with my current ISP (ADSL)DODO, where I keep getting dropouts, Ive done the whole reset and trouble shooting with the 'techs'… and it's worked for a week flawlessly, then back to dropping out again. I've had to turn my modem on/off on a daily basis (NO LIE) at least once day for the last 6 moths if not longer.
