Something seems really off here. The CPU & GPU alone are worth $600. I'm all for a bargain, but when a PC is priced waaay below part cost (nevermind labour & shipping), it reeks of being a dodgy sale, or at the very least a mistake.

For reference, part prices from MSY:
    CPU: $259
    Mobo: ~$70
    RAM: $105
    GPU: ~$350
    SSD: ~$36
    HDD: ~$55
    Case + PSU: ~$70

    Total: $945

Admittedly, they'd be using a cheaper case & PSU than what MSY offer, but even still, you can't build a system like that even using distributor prices and still make a profit.

    • +1

OP is associated, so likely not a mistake.

    • +2

      CPU $230 retail

      GPU $250 retails

probably at least 20% off wholesale

      other components the same thing

likely their price under $600 or even less

$150 for labor - not bad

      • +4

GPU is at least $350 from static ice. Ozbargain has the lowest at around $269 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/406201

        • and then using 10% off gift cards make it $242

and then take it 20% off wholesale.
they get it under $180 most likely

so even cheaper than I thought

          • +31

@kashirin: Are you suggesting that wholesale buyers use gift cards?

    • Agree. Wonder if I should wait for boxing day sale or nab this…

      • +1

        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2758693

whirlpool forums have noticed a recent increase in CPU prices.</a> AUD exchange rate becoming worse, less competition from Intel, and other reasons have been suggested as partial causes. You might find the increasing trend continues.

Also boxing day sales dont tend to happen except at the likes of JB hi fi or harvey norman neither place I would buy a PC. retailers like MSY, PCCG and PLE operate on razor thin margins all year.

      • This is a good price imho but if you want to go fishing you could get a 1070 for that same price maybe even a 1080 from gumtree.. very very possible.

    • Sounds dodgy but the seller has a boatload of reviews, with the only negs I've seen either being exaggerated, genuine mistakes (as there's very few) or about shipping.

      • +1

Not saying this seller is, but there were cases where businesses were running using similar schemes to a certain Ponzi - they advertise 1st batch of products below costs and then use fund from 2nd batch to cover the production cost of the first batch. They then do the same using the fund obtained from the 3rd batch to cover the costs for the 2nd batch. Rinse and repeat until business closes up shop sunddenly one day and buyers who paid for the last batch of the products lose out.

Again, not saying TechFast is doing this. However, that's one way for seller to sell things way below costs while still maintaining good reviews and still deliver products (until the last batch)…

    • +1

but when a PC is priced waaay below part cost

For reference, part prices from MSY:

MSY don't sell at part cost so there's your problem. Sometimes I can get killer deals that are significantly cheaper than MSY from my suppliers. Take the Shield with remote for example, $220ish on OzBargain and around $190 from suppliers. I could knock everyone out of the water by selling for $200 here.

Warehouse1 used to sell very close to their cost pricing too and we all know how they ended up.

      • I'm not saying MSY sell at part cost, but their margins aren't especially high, yet this offer is 20% less than their prices, not including shipping or labour. I still don't see how they could offer this system at this price and make a profit.

        • MSY aren't as cheap as they used to be and sell quite higher than wholesale prices.

eBay are taking the hit for the 5% off and Techfast cheap out elsewhere to save costs at selling near their cost price.

    • even the OS cost a bit unless its a kinguin

RAM is a bit slow for Ryzen but I think the machines are fine (and good value) if not for the PSU. I'd have a plan to replace the PSU if I bought one as I'd rather my $500+ in CPU and Graphics card last the distance.

    • You better change the ssd aswell.

    • Ryzen 2xxx aren't as bothered by slow ram as the 1xxx series were.
For most uses, you're looking at 3-4% difference in performance between 2133 and 3200.
For me with my 2700x, rpcs3 is the only place I see a significant difference.

      • +1

for games its about 5-15% difference from 2133 to 3200, definitely more forgiving than ryzen 1xxx. I personally don't bother with buying faster ram, but I aim for a B350 mobo to OC the ram to about 2800+ which is usually quite possible with looser timings & higher voltages.

        • What would be a step up from this spec and how much would that be?

          I'm not too technical

    • It'll work for the short term but definitely upgrade that thing.

    • I'd have a plan to replace the PSU

I'd plan to use my money better than replacing a working component to get imaginary future lifespan gains but suit yourself.

      • The techfast psu is unrated.

Like I said, will work for the shlrt term. But it'd be advisable to upgrade it.

  • Video editting possible? Or probs not?

    • +6

      Yeah 6 cores 12 threads Ryzen 5 2600 is a value champ.

    • -3

It should be fine for editing 1080p videos but it will struggle with 4k. Should probably add more ram though.

      • +5

It would be great for 4k. 16gb of memory is a better option though.

        • -4

A faster cpu would be more comfortable but it will work. If you're using DaVinci Resolve then you need a better gpu and not cpu.

          • +3

@Mibo: @Mibo: I'm not sure if you're suggesting they get a threadripper or Intel system. But this is going to be so much better than an Intel system for editing 4k. You'd have to spend way more to get an Intel system that would render faster.

            • -2

              @bunnybash: You probably don't need a threadripper, I meant more like a AMD R7 2700X

    • Having bought a Dell machine with a RX580 card, it was a complete and utter disaster for video editing. Davinci Resolve flat out refuses to load, and Adobe Premiere loads but it refuses to hardware decode so you're stuck with software decoding. That said a Ryzen 2700x can't even decode a 4k gopro file without stuttering..

Avoid at ALL costs if you're looking at video editing.

That said, Premiere now supports Quicksync decoding and encoding on Intel CPUs.. Freaking insane!

      • Thanks, good to know. Was eyeing a Ryzen 2600/RX580 combo for a Davinci Resolve setup.

      • Would a single 1080Ti and a 6700k (not planning on changing CPU yet) with 16Gb RAM work well for that same task? I understand it's just 4 cores and etc… just wondering if it can work or if I should just concentrate on shooting at 1080p or 2K.

      • Looking for a sub 1500ish laptop to do video editing, what would you recommend?

  • +7

Best deal for Gaming i’ve seen for this price point by a long way.

  • +1

Wish I bought gift cards from yesterdays sale. Would get this bad boy down to $684

  • +4

Great price. Nice one OP! Whole system is less than a 9900k cpu. Lol

  • +2

Holy crap, this is a great deal, it's between the good and very good tier on http://www.logicalincrements.com/ so it's worth almost $1000. Though I guess the cheap case and motherboard brings the price down. I would get it if only I had money to spare.

Just a warning, this doesn't come with a copy of windows. If you have a .edu email you should have a look to see if you are eligible for a free copy of Windows 10 Education, I know my utas email offers it. https://onthehub.com/download/free-software/windows-10-educa…

    • +3

What the f is that tier list. More of a site where people wanna find descriptors to humble brag about their build than anything else. The RAM doesn't even have speeds or latency listed.

      • -1

It's just a site for parts recommendation for a pc build at any budget. It's not about bragging or anything.
Moreover, performance difference in ram speed is small unless you're using an iGPU. On the page it says to buy what suits you the best, hence they don't list those details.

    • +1

You think you can get us a copy. All of my institutions don't have the Win10 offer :(

      • It's limited to one copy per account. Even if you don't have the free offer, it should offer it at $23.82 which isn't too bad but it's not the cheapest.

    • Isn't Windows effectively a free license these days?

      • Kinda, you just have to deal with the activate windows watermark and be unable to personalize the desktop.

  • +1

Yes, but it can run League of Legends…

    https://youtu.be/0vmQOO4WLI4

  • +3

Anyone reckon there will be a 10% off sitewide code before this goes oos or expires?

    • Wish I stacked coupons last night. Going to buy $900 worth of coupons if possible

  • Was just looking at these. Once you add in the other things you need for this, like more ram, good psu, decent case and cooling, the price should be around 1k

    • +2

Why do you need all these? You won’t actually get any better performance unless overclockong?

      • Psu for protecting expensive components. Fans for how hot this'll run and protecting components. Better case for usb 3.0 ports

        • +4

no no and no. yes its a shit PSU, but it should run this build for a few years just fine. this tech is quite power efficient these days and techfast wouldn't put in something thats gonna blow up in a week, with a 1 year warranty. its about as shit as those thermal-take ones that used to get bundled with the cases, but it will do the job.

temp is not an issue, stock ryzen heatsinks are decent and you can't OC or change voltage with the A320 motherboard, the 580 is pretty much tapped out too.

better case is optional. if your the type of person that buys this PC, you probably were never planning to spend 1k on one.

          • @Unrvl: What about ram? I've been ooing and ahhing over this for a wihle now

          • @Unrvl:

            for a few years

Has anyone ever had a PSU stop working? I haven't, it's not something I've read about other than from the same people claiming cheap PSU's destroy computers which isn't a thing …

            • @Diji1: Definitely. But normally they don't die, they just cause lockups and/or reboots that get attributed to other components… until you switch out the cheap PSU for something decent and all the random problems disappear.

            • @Diji1: so theres cheap, like this, or a bundled cooler master / thermaltake PSU with a case. and then theres CHEAP $20 chinese name branded shit on ebay, or SHAW brands that MSY sells. they are the ones that blow up. about 10 years ago i bought a 600w chinese one from ebay for about $25. lasted 2 days and boom during a COD game. in saying that it didn't break any other parts, i don't even believe it does break other parts tbh.

              • @Unrvl: Lol I remember SHAW. I used to have a built-in SHAW PSU when I bought a cheap as case from MSY about 14 years ago. It's good that MSY don't sell those anymore.

            • +1

@Diji1: I've not only had my own cheap PSUs die, I've also seen a cheap PSU kill a motherboard when it died.

    • Cooling shouldn't he necessary, ryzen stock coolers are good. Case and PSU will do for the short term, though the PSU is something I'd change as soon as possible. More RAM's a good idea, definitely works out better than a build your own system.

  • +5

It's legit. I bought the i3 8100, GTX 1060 6gb, 8gb ram which was listed as $600, but I got it for about $510 with a free eBay premium subscription.

This seller mentioned on the listing you may get 1 of 3 brands for each component, which I thought i'd be getting the worst of em all.

But, I did pretty well (except for the motherboard, but I'm stoked at all the other gear especially the graphics card).

This is what I ended up getting.

    Thermaltake 500w PSU
    8gb Crucial dd4 2400mhz
Asus 1060 6gb turbo (blower fan, but good for small micro atx case)
    i3 8100
    generic case which works fine
colourful h310m k (only goes up to 2400mhz, but completely fine given the ram speed)
    128gb ssd WD green

Shipping took about 2 weeks which is pretty reasonable, as I assume they have to build and pump these out?

    • That's actually really nice but I think you got the luck of the draw. Even the most concerning thing there (motherboard IMO) is a big brand overseas.

      • Yeah, I did get lucky. But even if you got the worst brands for each component, the overall PC will perform just as well and you still wouldn't be able to build it yourself for this price.

    • How do I get a free premium eBay subscription to get the discount?

      • Sorry, got the name mixed up. It's called ebay "plus", not premium.

You can get a 1 month trial when you sign up. Just make sure to cancel the subscription in your paypal account so they don't charge you the $49 the next month. You get 2 coupons, I think it was %20 off or something like that?

        https://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/SU18-2/eBay-Plus

"eBay Plus is a feature-packed membership, unlocking a premium shopping experience for buyers. With a free 30-day trial and membership costing just $49 per year, eBay Plus members can expect to enjoy:"

        • I just signed up for a free trial, but I can't find the discount?

    • +2

Ha, why buy a console when PCs are so cheap!?

    • Have you run benchmarks to confirm your components? There are definitely fakes out there especially graphics cards on eBay. I can't help but wonder about the components in these systems.

    • $510 for all that.. goddam now we are talking.

Just add more ram and more storage and that is a beast machine.

  • +5

Does this also include the 3 free games posted from the rx570 deal?

    • yep should do

  • +2

Tech fast has good deals, if you wanted a ryzen 3, 2200 or 2400g, similar spec desktop, they sometimes go for under $400 shipped. Click completed and sold to see their previous prices.

  • +3

Can I just buy the computer components shipped in their original box? Save me time to transport these parts to a better case.

    • Thinking this myself.

    • Honestly why would you transfer it to a better case? that one looks OK and buying a new case would make the deal worse than it is. I think it's logical only to buy a new case when you upgrade the system.

      • Each person has their own reasons why they want to transfer the parts to a better case. Looking at the case spec personally
        - This case doesn't have any 240mm space for a large radiator.
        - Not enough space to put more case fan for better airflow internally.
        - Only 1 x 3.5" internal drive bay is seriously lacking if you want more hard drive storage.
        - Only 2 x USB 2.0 I/O on the case is ancient for 2018. No USB 3.0.
        - m-ATX form factor can be limiting if someone has a use case to use alot of additional PCI-e cards and use the GPU at the same time.
        - I only want the cpu , gpu , rams and storage drives. As mentioned by u/CarbonTwelve this is even cheaper than buying seperate from MSY.
        - The PSU that most likely included with the case is sh!t house.

        • Oh yeah the third reason does make sense that's really bad. With only 120+1TB I can understand someone wanting to add more drives but being limited by the case.

    • +1

Could always send them a PM on ebay.

  • +3

Bought the 2200g version few weeks ago. Pretty happy overall.Just note that you might hear static through 3.5mm jacks due to cramped parts all together interfering with eachother. Issue easily solved with a USB Headset like a Kingston HyperX Cloud II ;). Will also need to buy a Windows key or just continue to rock Win 10 unactivated.

    • A cheap usb dac+amp from TaoBao will fix this as well.

  • +3

This is an amazing deal. Can't see any reason to get an Xbox One X when you can get this way more powerful beast for a little more.

    • Maybe for exclusive games?

      • PC has far more exclusive games than all consoles combined

        • +1

Xbox one x can do 4k. From review I think this gpu can't.

          • @[Deactivated]: This GPU is pretty much the same level of power that the Xbox One X has.

Plus the Xbox does dynamic 4k in some games, with very low quality settings, which this could easily do.

Plus I would take 1080p 60fps over 4k30 any day.

            • @The greatest Jape: The Digital Foundry guys often compare XB and PC games and it seems like XB1X often runs medium or high equivalent settings.

            • @The greatest Jape: i dont know how people can even game on 30hz these days. PC gamers are ditching 60hz for 100-144hz pretty fast at the moment.

          • @[Deactivated]: Depends on the game. But the 580 8gb is the low end of 4k cards.

        • +1

PC has far more exclusive games than all consoles combined

Sure but are there are blockbuster exclusives like Uncharted or the other PS4 exclusives?

        • And it can play Nintendo up to Wii U at 4k, PS3 at 4k and Xbox 360 (work in progress).
The switch emulator can play some games, Super Mario Odyssey should be perfect by the end of the year.

    • I have a One X and a PC. I love it when games are play anywhere. Cos I can play at my desk or on the couch. Game pass rocks too.

    • +4

Steam is not the only place to buy games. Even for games that require Steam there are usually multiple places to buy them from (GMG for instance).

But are you seriously whinging that games cost money? I'll be honest, I pirated a lot of games when I was young and couldn't buy them, but even then I would never complain if there was a game I couldn't pirate…

    • +1

Hate to think we're back to the cartridge era in terms of industry control

Are the days of downloading the ISOs and playing the latest games for free well and truly over?

LOL. These are totally separate topics. Piracy has been around since long before video games existed, and it will continue to do so.

The current industry issues are DRM (you don't really own what you purchase) and lack of original content.

  • Can't see how many HDMI or USB ports?

    • Go to the deal then swap to the next image, should have the case round up. If not, check their others items to find the case.

  • Wow 1500+ clicks that’s a lot most likely sold.
