How Do I Plug This Antenna Cable into My TV?

Just picked up a new Hisense. Looks awesome. The previous owners of my apartment left behind two antenna cables (they come from inside the wall so I don't know where it comes from). Why are there two antenna cables? Multiple TV's perhaps?

The antenna cable is threaded but my TV port isn't, do I need some sort of adapter to connect them?

Thanks.

F Type Female to TV Aerial Male Antenna Plug Coax

    • Thanks very much. This looks exactly like what I need. I think I found it at JayCar with the description you provided

Yep that would be the one :)

      • In case you don't want to use an adaptor, I bought a cable that was the F type female on one end and TV aerial male antenna plug coax on the other end for $4.95 from Jaycar.

        EDIT: https://www.jaycar.com.au/f-plug-to-tv-coaxial-plug-cable-1-…

That one, but I found black.

I thought about that but the cables come from a cutout that goes inside the wall so I don't actually know they are located.

@idonteven: Ah.. fair enough. Sounds like the previous owner cheaped out on what is probably a $10-$15 face plate.

Your photo is unclear, what are you trying to plug into where?

I suggest adding some detail with MS Paint to clarify it.

  • Goto JB Hifi or eBay and buy an adaptor, shouldn't be hard to find

Could be 2 cables due to not being for TV antenna… F-Type connections are used on Cable or Satellite connections (but can be used for TV antenna too).

May find 1 is TV Antenna & one could be Cable.

    • Ah so you're saying it's possible that 1 cable is for normal TV free-to-air and the other cable is for Cable TV?

      • I just moved in to a new house that has 2 cables. (one was foxtel, the other FTA)

That looks like the Foxtel Satellite cable. Has two connections coming from the satellite.

    • +3

Yep looks like Foxtel cables to me. They run 2 cables for HD.

      • Foxtel has two cables if on satellite and one if its on the cable network. Foxtel uses their own branded RG6 connectors not these crimping hex types.

Yep they are Foxtel cables. Do they go to a plate on the wall or just disappear into the wall?

OP, I don’t know if you’ll be able to get FTA via that cable. Have a look around your new place and see if there is a normal looking antenna plate

        • There's a Foxtel plate with two input sockets. Will look for a normal antenna plate.

          • @idonteven: Alright good.

Some newer off the plan apartments have a different connector than older houses(same plug but I think it’s make in the wall)

You might find though the previous occupants wanted the tv in a certain place so when Foxtel came to install they asked the technician to put the plate where it is. The antenna plate could be on the other side of the room.

  • Had the same issue myself last week. Bunnings has the part you need.

  • First step: Find hole

  • Use a hammer. Makes everything fit if you try hard enough.

  • Update: No luck. I tried the adapter on both cables. I turned on my Hisense and began scanning using both "antenna" and "cable" mode which appeared when I clicked the "begin scan" button.

I tried looking for a separate antenna plate around the unit but found nothing. The only plate that exists is the Foxtel plate with two cable plugins.

The two cables are fed through the wall and come from above the ceiling (I'm on ground floor). I've got no idea how to hook up my TV to free-to-air. Who should I be contacting to get some answers? The building manager?

    • It could be the building doesn't have them have you tried asking any of your neighbours?

They are definitely Fox cables the newer cables are still co-ax but white. trying to find the splitter box is near impossible ours is in basement carpark

I've got friends who have older and newer apartments that don't have FTA as they expect you will utilise fox or NBN and stream everything.

One reason they were given for no cable was the confusion of the phasing out of analogue……

You might have to end up buying a HD digital antenna plate that sits behind your TV. (stand alone kind the new version of rabbit ears) but discrete

Definitely ask building manager you don't want to pay the extra if you don't need to and if something is missing that should be there they should be fixing it not you.

      best of luck
