It doesn't say or suggest each sub costs 20c.

They will however donate 20c for each purchased Sub to Foodbank.

Subway® will donate $0.20 (value of the food for Foodbank to source a meal) for each purchased sub, salad or wrap

Is this per sub or per 2 subs (ie only the ones paid for not the free ones)?
Even so, its around 2% from each paid sub.

    • +13

It's amazing that you think each sub would cost them $0.20

        • +5

I think you're confusing Subway corporate with franchises. You have to remember that on the receiving end of these deals are the franchise owners, basically small business owners in many cases. Subway corporate is making their money out of selling franchises and bleeding the franchise owners. If you're a franchise owner for Subway, that sub is not costing you $0.20 to make, you're probably talking about closer to $4/$5 to make. While Subway corporate have economy of scale to purchase supplies in bulk, they are earning a profit on selling those on to the franchises. On top of that as a franchisee you're immediately working to pay off your startup costs which can probably be well into the hundred's of thousands.

          Think before you franchise people!

          • @Tardvark: Totally agree. Franchises may look like the freedom of becoming your own boss, but in many cases they are exactly the opposite.

People take on large financial risks with very little potential gains.

    • +1

I read it as it costs Foodbank $0.20 to source the food to supply a meal? i.e. not Subway's cost?

  • +8

    This will be good.

I have not gone back to Subway since they stopped the Eat Fresh Club promos.

    • +5

Yeah what even happened to the promos Subway :(

      • +1

Always heaps of tradies at the local subway. Bet subway are grateful to this demographic for helping them stay afloat.

    • Same here! Always wondered if other people stopped going as well…

    • So did I.

    • +1

Im also part of this group, havent had a subway in a very long time as a consequence.

      • Yet subway persist.

  • +6

Subway have priced themselves out of business for many people I believe.

This could be one of the only days I can enjoy Subway without having to spend $9 on a footlong.

  • -4

Would be great if it’s posted 1-2 days before the promo day

    • +4

Nothing wrong with it being posted now whatsoever. Set yourself a reminder if your memory is that bad.

    • that's where the google mini comes in clutch, boss

    • +7

It would also be great if I got paid to do nothing

      • -1

        You can. It's called Centrelink.

    • +1

Set a reminder or calendar appointment lazybones

    • It was posted more than that actually, on 22/10/2018.

  • Thanks OP.

  • +1

I don't think that list of exclusions would be conclusive, there are a few places where I can think of in WA That won't do it.

    • Same. My local subway don't even do the free birthday sub :(

  • In UK world sandwich day is a free 6 inch, not buy 1 get 1 free. Thus this is not the most lucrative offer ever but better than nothing I guess.

    • +1

I give out free 6 inches every day. Don’t get many takers tho.

      • +3

Because your six inch doesn’t have substance

  • Something to grab on the way home from a boozy melb cup lunch.

    • +3

      Melb cup is the 6th

  • Any limits? Like 1 bogof per person?

  • +11

If you take a first date here as op suggests it is likely to be the only place they'll be putting a footlong or six inch in their mouth

    • Eat the cookie

    • +1

I thought that too, although in a somewhat less vulgar manner.

    • +11

If you've got a footlong I don't think it'll matter where you take your date

      • +2

And if your not lucky enough to have a footlong (like me) just make sure to give em some dough

    • If your partner does not have the same bargain mindset it probably wouldn't work out longer term anyway! ;-)

  • +4

I know what day I'll be shouting the boss lunch..

    • Nine piece Tuesday?

  • So if my date being a modern woman pays for her sub I get mine for free.

    • +1

Is that why you’re still single?

  • Goonellabah Subway I went to last year on sandwich day refused me the deal.

  • This is a great initiative.

Ever since Subway have been implementing this offer on World Sandwich Day I have been buying lunch for all of my subcontractors on site.

    • Is any stores in WA excluded?

  • Just curious how many years have subway had the World Sandwich Day in australia?

    • Started last year.

  • +1

    double post.

  • Do they both have to be the same sub?

  • Nice.

  • Anyone have current pricing info for subs?

    • I got the Chicken Ranch melt and the new Buffalo Chicken footlong for $11.95…

  • +2

Was just at a subway and was informed that tasty/olde English cheese, carrot and another salad (either pickles or jalapeños I think she pointed at) have been deleted "at all stores".

    • I believe they're trialing a new menu at certain stores, not all just yet.

  • +1

can i buy the $5 sub and get 1 free?

    • Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer so I think no

  • Any body got this?

  • Successfully redeemed a footlong at Southern Cross store… Thanks OP! 😊

  • Just bought two identical footlongs and was only charged for one (QLD). No advertising in the shop or any mention of it by the staff.

  • Plenty of advertising on ESPN for this, I didn't forget!

    • Sportsbet must not have wanted to compete with the footlongs

  • Does it apply to 6” subs too?

  • oh so that's why the line at Pitt St foodcourt was so long….

  • +3

Subway® will donate $0.20 (value of the food for Foodbank to source a meal) for each purchased sub, salad or wrap in Australia to Foodbank to help feed the hungry.

Does anyone have any details on that 20c meal? That sounds like the real bargain here.

  • Any good if I intend to keep this for breakfast tomorrow?

  • Do you think a subway sandwich will be soggy and gross if I keep the 2nd one in the fridge and have it for lunch tomorrow?

    • -2

I asked this earlier; why do you have to copy? be original!

      • oh sorry I haven't bothered reading this whole thread :(

      • Why you not Doctor?

    • In my experience, it usually is fine. One of the best ways to heat up leftover subs I have found is to put it in the oven. Crisps it up a little as well.

      • Hmmm along with all the Vegs inside? doesn't sound right

  • Lunch sorted :)

  • -4

Subway always tastes disgusting, never fresh.

    • +2

The key to a fresh subway is to eat it fresh and not a week after.

  • +1

I went to Subway in Hampton Park and had to buy a drink to get this deal. When told staff that the email did not mention this, they said every store has different promotion. Very annoyed!

    • lol that's not even part of the deal. You should have just done paid it. What are they going to do if they've already made the sandwich; throw it out?

  • Was going to get the $5 sub of the day and make it a footlong until I realised it was smashed falafel lol.

    Where's the meat!!!

  • North Melbourne subway said they not doing the deal even though they not in the exclusions list. Lame.

  • I just been conned by the new subway in Raine Square Perth. Instead of changing one 12” and the other one free, they charge 6” each and the other 6” free. Total about around $15.50 instead of $11.10.
I told her this is not right and they need to honor the promotion ( they got a big sign In front of the shop. But the lady at the counter said “that’s how the system setup” ! That’s the most hated excuse of all time!. Should I walk across the road to the Consumer Protection and lodge a complaint or rant on their FB or both !?

    • +1

Shouldn't have paid lol. Very common that the people working there aren't up to date with the offers.

    • Threaten to walk out without paying and without your food, they'll change their tune real quick.

  • The underwood store said they are not doing the promotion even though they aren’t on the exclusion list

    • Go over to Springwood, they were definitely doing it. Even had a sign up saying they had a celebrity guest in earlier.

  • We took advantage of it today. Sign in the window and sign on the menu board.

The bread rolls ran out and everybody that came about 10 minutes after us had to leave empty handed! Cheltenham Victoria.

  • I've only bought subway once since their world sandwich day last year. Really enjoy my subway so got 4 foot longs for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Regents Park Subway NSW were fantastic
