Full Diagnostic Hearing Test in Melbourne, How Much?

Hello all,
I am looking for a full diagnostic hearing test for my father. He needs hearing aids. He is self-funded retiree. I am bit confused with the price for hearing test, I called several Hearing Centres, the price could vary from $410 to $50, without explaining what actually they test.
I was wondering if anyone know whether it is worth to go to expensive one? Or anyone has knowledge in this area?

Is the $50 test is the same test with the $175, or even $400?

Many thanks,

  • They usually put you in a sound proof box and feed different frequencies at various levels via ear phones and graph your responses when you press a button or similar.

If he isn’t entitled to an industrial deafness claim make sure he is sitting down when they tell him the price, they can run into several thousand dollars for upmarket ones.

Go to GP first to ensure there is not some other cause.

  • +1

You should be able to get free services from Hearing Australia, if he's a senior?

Kids and seniors get free services (I got free services as a kid, deaf in left ear)

    • Thanks, Hearing Australia charges $50, which is reasonable. I wonder if the $410 is exactly the same test with the $50?

  • If your father has pension card .
Hearing test & hearing aid both are free.

  • Myself had them for free with my pension concession cards

    • He does not have pension card unfortunately.
Hows the quality of the hearing aid? Are you happy with its functions and quality?

I am thinking to got to Coscto for the hearing aids

  • The one i had is Standard one call SIEMENS ( orion M ).For me its functions & quality is not bad.
I suggest you shop around first and check their product reviews

  • University of Melbourne Audiology Service is good…not sure if they supply hearing aids though and not sure how much they charge
