1200A AGM 6cyl Compact Jump Starter $83.96 C&C @ Supercheap Auto

80
SAVE20

Needed a couple of new Jump Starters to replace my excellent Dick Smith cheapies from waaay back. Can't do the Lithium variety as I need to keep the unit in a locked car at an open air car park and the high temps would quickly degrade them. No problem with these as they're Lead Acid AGM based! More info/specs in the manual here

$83.96ea or as low as $73.46ea if buying two and using the 30% off code (SAVE30). Double CashRewards at the moment too… a big 4.2%!!

Thanks to ykwon10 for posting the original deal

A bit off topic here - I've thought about getting a lithium jumpstarter for a while but I have heard tell of people using powerbanks to keep dashcams running, and that in the Australian hest the powerbanks have caught fire. Similar to leaving aerosols in a hot car it seems to be one of those things that is possible but doesn't happen often.

Those of you that have a lithium jumpstarter, have you had any issue keeping them in your car? I'm thinking in the spare wheel well would be a good spot as in the boot and below the floor should be cooler than the cabin and the spare wheel would be a heat sink. TIA.

Yep, agreed… but I wasn't too concerned about the Lithium based ones catching fire, I was more concerned about them dying prematurely and leaving me stranded. I just didn't want to risk it either way so stuck with Lead Acid. The cheapie Dick Smith & Jaycar ones I bought up when they went on clearance a while ago have been incredibly good. Built-in inflator AND inverter which I've actually used too. Really low-end 17Ah SLA Battery inside those ones which I was planning to replace in the new year as they're now over 5 years old and although I've kept them in tip-top condition (ie. charging them every few months) but the replacement battery was just as much as these entire units RRP!

      • Yeah of course the heat would be a worry for performance especially if the car is parked outside a lot.

Were the dicksmith/jaycar ones lead acid as well? From a performance standpoint I do like the idea of the lead acid, but it takes up a significant amount of space in a small car like a lancer, whereas jumper cables and/or a lithium starter can go inside the spare wheel so don't really rob you of space.

Yep, the cheapies just had 17Ah SLAs inside. All in all they were a good size as they had an inflator and inverter built-in so were a very handy multi-purpose little unit but yes smaller would/will had/have its benefits.

Ive had this for over a year now and it has come in so handy. Id say ive used it over 30 times jumping flat and dead batt in various vehicles.

  • I'll second the sentiment that this is a useful thing to have. I use it to run a 12V pump and to jump start the paddock ute. Bought from here. I can't remember the price, but I think it was a fair bit less than this price.

  • Do these have a lighter socket, or just USB? Does anyone know the AH rating of the battery? Are they deep cycle? Looks to be a good price for AGM.

All details are in the link to the manual in the description above.

Thanks. So, no lighter socket, 8AH battery. Deep cycle not specified, but quoted at 500+ cycles @ 10 starts (not sure if 10 starts would run it flat).

        • +2

Nope, 12Ah AGM Battery in this one. The 8Ah is in the smaller model but for the slightly higher price and the need to spend over $100 to take advantage of the discount this one is far better value. AGM batteries are usually classed as 'Deep Cycle' but of course you'll never really know without building it yourself ;) Bit of general info on AGM batteries here

  • Would it okay for a 2.5L Diesel?

    • +1

Should be as it is rated for 1200 CCA
