Preemptive comment/question answers.

Q: How about a deal on (insert any other product)?
A: Nope, sorry, it's just this one today.

C: Mushkin? Pffft, never heard of them, only buy (insert favorite brand here)!
R: We've sold thousands and in our experience their failure rate is no worse than Crucial / Samsung.

Q: Will I get it before (insert day / time here)?
A: Maybe, we'll dispatch them within 24 hours of payment clearing. The rest is up to the courier.

Q: Do I need to order online before picking up from the store?
A: Nope, but it would help you secure stock just in case we sold out in the meantime.

Q: How many do you have in stock? Any limit per customer?
A: 100+ in stock / No strict limit but if someone goes crazy and we suspect they're just going to be flipping them for a profit we might cancel the order just to be fair to other customers.

Q: Can I pay in store?
A: Yep, cash or card. 1% on Visa / Mastercard. No Amex (sorry!)

  • Just so everyone knows, a SSD will do next to nothing for gaming, youll get slightly faster load times but just thats about it.

The word 'slightly' is a little subjective. Can be quiet noticeable (depending on the game of course) but patience is a virtue and regular hard drives are cheaper per GB!

What are you talking about? an SSD vs HDD is a HUGE difference in loading times, its an NVMe drive vs Sata drive where the game loading times are almost the same.

      • I don't think its really that significant at all, check out this comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dEsTiOeMQ4&t=37s
If you want better gaming the $50 that you would have spent on a SSD would be better spent on other core components. Whilst playing a game most of the data is loaded in the RAM anyway which is many times faster than any SSD. SSD's are an essential for any good PC period. But trying to sell them in association with a game seems a bit misleading. Lay consumers might actually think installing your game on a SSD will make a meaningful difference, but as evatech said its "subjective".

        • From that same video Loading times:

          ________________|SSD_____|______HDD

          GTA V___________|27s_____|54s___

          Tomb Raider_____|4s______|15s___

          Witcher 3_______|24s_____|35s___

          Mass Effect_____|21s_____|35s___

          Fallout 4 ______|19s_____|46s___

etc etc yeah it does make a difference, especially in games where you constantly load new areas. I mean check out fallout 4, thats a huge difference and this game loads everytime you enter a new building. I've played a session of fallout 4 where i had like 30 loading screens.

but here is also some other evidence from me..ARK Survival evolved. I use to have this very large game on a HDD and it literally took about 5minutes from game start up to loading into a server, now on my SSD its about a minute.

          • @neferseki: But how many of those games could you really fit with 240ishGB of useable space? Maybe 4 to 8? GTA 5 is 65 GB and ARK Survival evolved is 90GB for some people. Youll be spending alot of money on SSDs if you really cant take an extra 10-25 seconds of loading times. Ive got 2.5TB of games installed on my HDD, if I were to get a good deal at $200 per TB that would be $500 I would have to spend just to save 10-25 seconds on loading times. Do you see that the value really isnt there for most people? Maybe for the games you mentioned with frequent loading screens it might be worth it. But for the vast majority of people its just bad value in comparison to a CPU or GPU upgrade.

            • @WhiskeyBurn: um there is a quality of drives where you uninstall and install new games. I admit 250GB is somewhat small but it is certainly doable for those on a budget.

I personally have a 500GB SSD that i use as a game drive and its filled up all the time but when I want to play a new game I simply uninstall something I am not playing.

10-30 second loading times may not sound like a big difference but it really is, I just had a look back at my time playing pathfinder:kingmaker thats a decent way through the game (The save games get quite huge and makes load times abysmal) And the amount of time I spent loading the game in a 2 hour session was almost 30minutes, I have no idea if this would get worse on a HDD since i am not going to test it but I dread to think it could probably be worse.

As for the CPU or GPU upgrade option for the price of an SSD, $50 isn't going to take you very far and I very much doubt the 2.5TB of games at one time is a very typical user case.

              • @neferseki: I think you're trying to justify your point by saying the outliers such as pathfinder:kingmaker and ARK are representative of this whole SSD vs HDD debate. They are both examples of very poorly optimised games which are not all that popular relative to the games lay consumers play. Most people play mainstream games like GTA, fortnite, COD, Battlefield, Assassins creed, ect which as you saw do not get anywhere near the improvement that you're saying that an SSD has over a HDD.

And most people (including myself) are not willing to simply install and uninstall games when their drive gets full. Remember this is Australia where a 50GB+ game could take literally days to download and install for some people. You have a system that works for you and thats great, keep doing it. My point was advertising an SSD in association with a game gives the uneducated a false idea that games are better on SSDs than HDDs, which is true, but does not make much financial sense for the vast majority of cases. I was just trying to educate the potentially uneducated.

                • @WhiskeyBurn: I don't usually uninstall games, but move them between HDD and SSD and then symlink them through.

  • Phone is fine

  • Fallout 76 OMEGALUL, sweet deal tho

    • Thanks, although it looks like we got beaten to the punch by a few minutes with Umart's deal on the smaller / slower SSD for the same price. It's already hit the front page!

      Dam.

      • +1

this is a much faster drive than a400

        definitely a better deal here

  • +1

Bought one. Thanks. Needed it for in-defactos

  • Plus for the description!

  • Will this fit in AusPost Small: $8.95

    • Hi, If it's an option, you can select it! And yes, it will fit. Many customers have already checked out with this option.

  • @rloos added multiple units to cart, applied code at checkout, and $26 taken from order, not per unit ordered. So deal is currently $49 for one drive, not per drive.

Your original blurb suggested ordering multiples was not a problem, so is this pricing intentional?

    • Shouldn't be the case! We'll investigate and get back to you ASAP.
