Nokia 8 Steel (2017) 4GB / 64GB Snapdragon 835 $299.25 Delivered (HK) @ TobyDeals

1640

Just used Officeworks price match against Tobydeals $299.25 sale price on the Nokia 8 to get for $284.29. Note: Price match at Officeworks may be rejected as this model is dual sim (Officeworks is selling single sim).

Currently $548 at Officeworks (saving $263.71). Not showing on OW website (stock will vary store to store, superseded by Nokia 8 Sirocco).

Not a bad deal considering I paid ~$320 for a Nokia 6 not long after release and this puppy had a (too-high) RRP of $899.

Cons for me

  • no Android One, will get Android 9 Pie.
  • camera, although marketed as Ziess, isn't the best.
  • no qi

Pros for me

  • Snapdragon 835
  • expandable storage via microSD
  • USB-C
  • Band 28

Did anyone get it successfully priced matched in Sydney?

  • +3

Just got one from Officeworks Strathpine, QLD. They have one left in stock. Officeworks Milton has two left.

    • +1

Thank you. Just picked one up at Milton. Think the other one is still there. Flashed slimdealin's OW receipt and the young girl rang it up as $247! No idea why. No figure like that on the receipt.

      • Any chance that you could please upload the receipt?
I got the last one in my area for $274. They said that they wouldn't go lower without proof. They wouldn't match NewbiefromVic's as it was damaged.

      • +3

Haha. She must've price beat the already reduced price on the receipt. Nice work. Sale of the century.

    • Just rang the Strathpine store, but someone beat me by 10 minutes putting it on hold. :( I asked them the price, and they said $488!

    • Was it telstra locked?

  • +4

Just purchased one of three in Newcastle. Scanned up at $274.

    • +1

A couple people have mentioned they got phones that scanned cheaper the what the OP paid. Did the OP end up paying more because of the price beat?

  • +2

    Also states unlocked on receipt

  • +1

Fairy Meadow OW wouldn't price-match because it's the dual sim version :(

    • Yep, shit outta luck there. Asked if he could scan it and it's still $599 there. Good luck to them unloading their stock.

  • +2

Is there any harm in buying directly from tobydeal?

    • +1

      Warranty issues.

Best case Nokia still warrants it for 12-24 months. Worst case Nokia won't honor it, doubt the seller will sort out any issues beyond ~6months.

  • Omg look at the size of. That bezel and chin.

  • They refused at Mt garvatt

  • How bad is the camera? Love the price but want a good camera… my zte axon 7 us not cutting it

  • Will OW pricebeat the 7 Plus that's at 413 on this website too?

    • +1

Yes. However better to price beat joybuy

  • +3

just called OW head office. Only a few left in VIC: 2 @ maribyrnong, 1 @ highett (already opened)
JB hifi didn't want to pricematch

Snagged last one from Kew East Officeworks for $211. They were clearing it for $226 and gave $15 discount for damaged box …

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/261275/63859/nokia8.jp…

    • Wow, great price, lucky you. And I see you grabbed a couple of the Optus $5 sim starter packs too posted a while back lol.

      • +1

Thanks :) Yeah, grabbed a couple of spares. Valid till Oct 2019 (I think), so useful to have in case of visitors or Telstra cable going out.

Tobydeals seems to have bad reviews: https://au.trustpilot.com/review/tobydeals.com

Anyone here has experience with them? All their phones are a lot cheaper than the market. Not sure how genuine are they.

    • Thats what i'm afraid of…

    • +3

I decided to take a punt and place an order. I have brought many items without issues from websites such as Banggood, Gearbest, DWI and eGlobal and they all have horrendous Reviews.

If a store turns over hundred of thousands of products per year, all it takes is 1% of the transactions to go wrong to get a long list of negative feedback. And we all know that the Chinese are not exactly "world class" in terms of customer service or communications.

      • +1

Usually most sales go fine, it's only if you have an issue that you have to deal with support - and that's where the terrible review cmnes from. So the question is: did you have any issues that got easily sorted from any of these badly reviewed shops?

    • +1

There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's PayPal.

  • +4

Well done OP. Just got last one from Trinity Gardens SA for $247. Thank you!

    • +2

Any chance that you could please upload the receipt?
I got the last one in my area for $274. They said that they wouldn't go lower without proof. They wouldn't match NewbiefromVic's as it was discounted for a damaged box. Emeister's says technical issue so they might use that as an excuse.

  • +1

None in Wooloongabba, CBD, Mt Gravatt and Garden City.

    • Garden city had 1 set. Refused to match. Same for underwood.

      • Strange. I called and said there's nothing. Why wouldn't they price match?

        • The model sold be OW is technically a different model to TobyDeals, as AU models are single sim.

  • +1

Wowsers. Much quicker than my s7 edge but worse camera and worse screen to body ratio. I wouldn't side grade to it but perfect for a lot out there

  • I noticed the other day in another thread a url to check OW stock levels. Anyone know it?

      • thx - no idea how to use it though? :)

        • +2

It's not accurate for this product as it's not displayed on the website. It'll show dozens of store with 3pcs when they don't have any.

      • +1

        Is it this?

        • The page is the same whatever storeID you enter. The only result coming up is W929.

  • I'm not having any luck with OfficeWorks. Called the 1300 number but they wouldn't price match due to missing model number. Photo of the OW receipt didn't help. :(

  • +2

Just called up three different Officeworks in WA and was told they've never sold that phone before…

    • +7

Well, WA is after all in a far faraway land.

    • They have them on display. When they look them up on main computer it doesnt pull up, they need to check on their ipod/stock thing.

That said, none in stock at subiaco or oconnor unless you want display model.

Morley had one, but refuses to price match as it said "frenzy" despite receipt. Wouldnt even match non sale price of $315

    • Jandakott OW had 2 and Fremantle had 1 left when I called this afternoon. Both told me to call 1300 number. Couldn't get a price match due to missing model number on TobyDeals website. Phone is not longer on OW site, you might need the OW Product number: IMNOKIA8SL.

  • Anyone know what the battery life is on this? I know it's only 3090 mAh, but is it a quality battery that doesn't degrade too quickly over time?

    • +2

Have had the phone for about eight months, the battery life is better than the last few phones I've had. Lasts all day easily with decent usage.

      • How does it stand up the the stresses of Pokemon Go?

        • +1

Very well, I have it running a lot :D

  • The price seems to be back to $315. Looks like too many people here on OzBargain brought one.

    • Nope still 299. When you click too many times it reverts back

  • Anyone know if this does this do carrier aggregation like S7's and above?

  • +1

Wow, this is cheap for a phone like this.

  • +1

Half seem to be able to price beat. The other half gets refused. Then some have said they can price beat joybuy for the 7 plus. Any tips/ advice/ words to say to get a yes?

    • +1

It purely comes down to what sales assistant you get and how willing his manager is. You'd think they'd have a country wide policy for this kind of thing!

      • I’m getting different responses from different staff @ the same store.

  • I have been calling a few OW stores in the Sydney area and they are all telling me that they can't even find the phone in their system…

    • +1

Bought 2 from Browns Plain QLD. One left. Hurry up!

      • Did they allow price match?
Called them, they said sold out..

      • Did you show a receipt or email quote?

        • Receipt by NewbiefromVic presented. $211/ea

          • @Richrichlands: Even though it says damaged box? Is it possible to upload your receipt?

          • @Richrichlands: I got Nerang to call browns plains because I mentioned that there’s was 3 there this morning that sold with out any issues (damamged box etc.) for a reduced price. But they came back with they were customer returns & that’s the reason why they were selling cheap.
But when I called browns plain they said they priced matched a sales docket. Nothing about them being reduced to clear already.

            • @stickymoo: So last one sold?

              • @stalker878: Browns plain said they were out. Nerang stock levels were four. When I called Nerang they said they had none. Had to call multiple times before one of the staff checked the floor & said they were in stock . Idk if the four quantity is accurate or not. I was able to get one though. Underwood supposedly still had two.

  • +1

Managed to get the last one from the North Ryde store except they refused to price match it at $211 or even $247, so I managed to get it at the same price as the OP ($284.29). Still happy as this is a gift for my mum who is still using a Samsung Galaxy S4 that she has to charge 4 times a day.

    • I had the same experience. When I called up the employee explained if you can get an Officeworks that has the item in stock for a lower price to email a quote through then another Officeworks will honour it. Becuase there was another half dozen examples on this forum of other stores with clearance prices. I thought it would be easy to check & find an example of one that doesn’t say “damaged box” etc. but I just accepted the Tobyau pricebeat. It became too much of a hassle.

  • +1

Nerang, QLD have 3 in stock still ($548). PriceBeat tobyau(checked mobile & desktop site. Thought they were refurb. Then another manager double checked.
Would not accept the Officeworks receipts because of the comments written on them.
It was a drawn out process with a lot of unique reasons given for why they can’t match the clearance prices of other Officeworks.
In the end I paid more than what the majority of their own stores were/are clearing them out at.
Which I was happy too. But, they will make you feel like a villain that has taken food from their children’s dinner plate.
While processing the sale. The manager asked if I was reselling. I replied “I need a new phone”. Which is true, otherwise I would have purchased all four.

    • What Price did you pay?

  • just got the 2nd last one in Chatswood store for $284

    • I think it's hilarious - I called the Chatswood store hours earlier and got told they didn't have any.

      • I called Nerang when I knew they had four in stock. I got told they had none. Twice!

  • Who's the Boom King?
    I'm the Boom King.

Picked up my returned repair from Bayswater for $100, props to my man Nathan.

Got one from OW Traralgon last night $274. Bargain.

    • Do you know if they had any left?

      • +1

Yesterday they had 2, after I got mine.

        • Thanks. Damn, I nearly went last night, but someone said they only had a few left in Vic and they weren't Traralgon, I'll have to see how I go tonight.

          • @Miss B: I thought the same after I read the comments. Ring them, you never know your luck.
