  • Anyone seen a laptop thats lighter then this 1.75kg, as needed for my son for school?

    • Keep an eye for sales on Yoga 370 https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-yoga/…

      I have it. It's excellent.

      1.37 KG.

      • +3

Which sports a 2 core/4 threads i7-7500u. This one has 4c/8t CPU. The age of dual core CPU is long passed now, even surfing Chrome with dozens of tabs take a toll on it.

        • I agree with the above. But for my purpose and of a school child it should be fine considering it's features. Foldable, pen, light and very durable.

          • +1

@kgb007: Apart from being light the one posted here does all that and more for less than half price. It is a latest model with latest CPU

    • I would say this is relatively good deal, as lighter laptop will be more expensive and either features 2 cores 4 threads CPU or bloody hell expensive (think 3 times the price). This CPU is low powered 4c/8t which is quite good.

  • Could a larger nvme SSD be inserted into this easily?

    • There is a sticker on the back screws, "Warranty void if removed"

      • +7

I think I could remove a sticker easily. I was more interested in the SSD.

        • This might help

          • @Pricebeat: Hate to sound ungrateful. That was about upgrading the ram. My question is about whether I could buy a new NVME SSD (eg Samsung 970) to replace the 128gb one here. I think it would be fine given it already uses a NVME format one. But now I will need to find out if it is B Key or M key or whatever.

          • @Pricebeat: that's old model with sata drive

    • +1

Yep, nvme upgradable, and should have empty sata bay as well..

      • Thanks Dan, do you know what key it uses? M, B > ?

  • +1

I bought one of these last time for the same money.

They are good but not new, they are obviously seconds. Despite the blurb they are refurbed by Grays not Lenovo The serial number has been removed on back too.

Mine looks almost new, a few tiny scuffs otherwise it looks new. The only real issue were two tiny black marks on the screen the size of a pixel, seems to be in glass. Very hard to see though, so I kept it.

Battery seems great, lasts maybe 10 hours. Performs great, boots up in just a few seconds, the SSD is fast.

For $591 they are worth it.

    • May I gave wrong impression but when stating refurb the item isn’t supposed to be brand new anyway. The one I bought has no issues at all so far and hopefully it stays the same. Battery life is about 8-9 hours on mine

    • Sounds like the condition of my Gray's Lenovo Yoga 700-11 (currently waiting for them to return it after repair, audio jack wasn't working properly).

This is a pretty good value deal, don't worry about the void sticker, take if off cleanly and no one will be wiser. They are put there to discourage you from opening the laptop up.

      • A warning RE sticker. I took the sticker off a machine I bought from them previously to install cheap wd green ssd - it is near impossible to take off without being obvious - pieces near the centre of the sticker are designed to separate - layered sticker, such that it looks different (not torn, layers change) when peeled off. I even used a little heat and a proper spudger to help remove - still detectable.

Can anyone comment on how good Grays Online are when claiming the warranty? Thanks

    • +7

Absolute bogus. They charge you $135+ if "there's nothing wrong with it" which I'll give you a hint - they are the ones who decide if something is wrong with it.

Bought a Lenovo Miix from these guys and while the box was in terrible condition, the 2 in 1 was great cosmetically. Keyboard had so many dead spots though. Battery life wasn't as claimed.

Got told I could ship it back to them (at my expense) and then "they'll see" if there's a problem. If not, they'll charge $135 + postage for it to come back to me, unchanged.

Told them to stuff it and sold it on gumtree for just as much as I paid for it in the first place xD

Oh and did I mention the warranty card/paper only said 6 months on it once purchased?

      • Crap!! That's bad

        • +2

I won't purchase from them again - warranty card says 3months, listing said 12 months - that alone is BS.

          • @Wilburre: I bought an Alienware refurbished from Gray 2 years back, however it came with Dell 12 months warranty so I didn't have to go through Gray. Registered with Dell and all checked out.

          • @Wilburre: I just checked my refurb lenovo warranty on lenovo website and I have nearly a year left.

            • @Pricebeat: Yeah mine doesn't work through lenovo unfortunately - only warranty is through grays - tried registering it

      • Not good. I bought a Lenovo V300 laptop a week ago from the other posted deal. I randomly have a vertical white line down the middle of the screen. Pushing the top corner of the border of the screen makes the line go away. Comes back randomly.

Worried I'll send it back to them and they'll charge me and not see the problem immediately…

      • Was this through Graysonline or the Grays Online eBay Store? if Graysonline, was it online auction (advertised as faulty, damaged, seconds, used, ex-lease or demo condition), or Fixed Price (Buy it now)?

where it's listed as Manufacturer Refurbished, and the delivered product is seller refurbished, it should be covered by eBay money back guarantee as 'not as described':

        Manufacturer refurbished
An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer or manufacturer-approved vendor. This means the product has been inspected, cleaned, and repaired to meet manufacturer specifications and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in the original packaging. Please see the seller’s listing for full details.

        Seller refurbished
An item that has been restored to working order by the eBay seller or a third party not approved by the manufacturer. This means the item has been inspected, cleaned, and repaired to full working order and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in original packaging. See the seller's listing for full details.

        and if the warranty is advertised as 12 months, that's the warranty they have to cover you for (from the item description);

        Warranty
This product comes with a 12 months warranty against manufacturing faults and defects. Warranty is managed by GraysOnline.
        Returns

At GraysOnline we want you to have a great shopping experience. If you purchase a product from our eBay store and you change your mind when you receive your order, you may send it back to us for your money back. You have 30 days from the date your order is received to notify us of your intention to return the product(s). The returned product(s) have to be received by us within 14 days of us providing you with a Return Advice Form. Please note that where products are being returned due to change of mind, postage will be at your cost.

Returned products must be in the same condition as you've received them with all internal and external packaging undamaged and all accessories, manuals, swing tags and labels must be complete and intact for a full refund. Unfortunately, we will not be able to refund your purchase price if we find that the goods are not in such a condition; however, a partial refund may be offered at our discretion.

Any refund of the purchase price of the returned product will exclude delivery charges. Products that are faulty will be either replaced, repaired or refunded in full including delivery costs, in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.

We source a wide range of fantastic products from a variety of places but stock is usually limited which means that we may not always be able to offer you a replacement on a returned product. Replacements are made on a like-for-like basis and will be offered, if available, where the item you received was faulty or damaged.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. For more information about your rights as a consumer, see the Australian Consumer Law website.

        and the following from the Australian Consumer Law website;

        Returning the product
You are entitled to return a product if you believe that there is a problem. You are generally responsible for returning the product if it can be posted or easily returned. You are entitled to recover reasonable postage or transportation costs from the business if the product is confirmed to have a problem, so keep your receipts.

You do not have to return products in the original packaging in order to get a refund.

If the product is found not to have a problem, you may be required to pay the transport or inspection costs. An estimate of these costs should be provided to you before the product is collected, and the costs must not be inflated in an attempt to deter you from pursuing your claims.

This last point is important; $135 is a bit (profanity) steep, and sounds like a breach of the ACL. it should be no more than the cost of sending it to them by registered post from your post office.

For me, I'd be taking video of the problem ahead of time, if they're failing to "see a problem", noting that I've recorded the issue, and hopefully avoiding more (profanity)

        • Not going to read through the whole copy-paste but it was a buy it now

          Link 1
          Link 2

They'll both provide info (it's the 3rd one down on the 2nd link btw).

          I'll just point out this:

internal and external packaging undamaged and all accessories, manuals, swing tags and labels must be complete and intact for a full refund. Unfortunately, we will not be able to refund your purchase price if we find that the goods are not in such a condition; however, a partial refund may be offered at our discretion.

Was not how I received it. External packaging was not undamaged and no manuals were included. I think they would have been able to make me liable for it.

Either way, I'm happy with how my experience turned out in the end - but just wanted to make sure other people don't make the same mistake.

          • @pennypincher98: Thanks for the reply; I'd bought a Yoga 710 just now, and I'm keen for them to not to provide a bad service if the item is flawed.

It's a good result for you through gumtree, but I'm hoping they'll comply with Australian Consumer Law if I want to return, not charge inflated delivery costs, and will actually inspect and verify a failure.

reading that packaging sentence again, it's under a 'change of mind' return, rather than a fault.

  • Does this support the Lenovo active pen?

  • How would this laptop be for someone starting high school next year? Weight looks a little heavy at 1.75 kg. I was hoping to get one at around 1.3 kg.

    • +1

      450g in itself isn't much.

I've got a laptop that weighs around 1.6-1.7kg and it doesn't bother me.

    • +1

I have 2 exactly for this purpose. They are pretty good.

My advice find a sleeve with hard casing to protect it (one is now 2 years old - screen cracked, bottom plastic has cracks as well), battery lasts enough, good overall. I mean there are better laptops, but for double price at least..

Bought for $400 last time, but not fullhd, I don't think you need fullHD on 14".

  • damn tempted

    • only one left so good luck lol

  • Out of stock, put in my cart and hesitated
