After a couple of years visiting this website and spending a lot of money, here is my first post.

This is not the lowest price for this NAS, but if you don't pay for delivery and you use the 8% cashback it comes down to $586.40. IMO, not a bad deal.

Cheers

    Great first post OP

Making it super hard to resist as this product is on sale quite often haha

    • It’s time they shifted to 2.5 on the mainline products. That would be an awesome little box.

3.5 will be relics in a couple of years.

      • don't see many 8/10TB 2.5 drives, so might explain why they haven't

  • Fast enough for running Plex via WIFI?

    • Yes. But of course you might stretch yourself running 4k hvec atmos stuff?

      • What about as an edit station for 4K video?

        • I use the 8 bay version as my sole editing drive. All the footage is 4k ProRes and will often stack up to five clips at a time without issue. To get this performance I had to install a 10gig nic as it's simply not possible even if you use LAG from the 4 1gig nice.

It is fast enough to easily play multiple plex videos over LAN. The bottle neck will be your wifi not the NAS server.

I believe this model supports hardware decoding if you have Plex pass. My 916 works just fine streaming 2 people at once, CPU barely gets used w/ hardware decode. The bottleneck will be the Wifi signal strength etc, not so much the 918.

Excellent machine. Only down side is that if you intend to also use this with your IP cameras, it only supports 2. If you want to use additional cameras, extra $$$.

    • The solution is so good I’m okay to pay the extra $70

  • Is this a good solution for PLEX into Shield - or is it overkill?

Just getting in this so be gentle…

  • Looks like the price has jumped to $759 now.
