    So desperate. Poor foxtel.

    • +1

I still watch more Foxtel than Netflix…

      • +15

But you are very, very old.

        • Or very, very conservative.

        • Do you also like the History channel?

          • @jv: Pretty sure Foxtel is going to be a star feature on the History Channel soon… but I'll take a free month *yoink!

      • You watch infinitely more ads too. {i know i know, different things}

        • I skip through them at 60x

  • +13

Hmm do I hate Foxtel enough to order it and then cancel it within a month just to waste their time and money…

    • +1

You will likely end up wasting more of your time (and not theirs) trying to cancel

      • You just have to be assertive and direct.

I would welcome an attempt to keep a call going for more then a few minutes, if you give them nothing to go on they have nothing to say.

      • I cancelled my Foxtel a few months ago in about a minute and a half flat. Just said "no retention deals, just cancel please" and so they did.

Lining up at Auspost to send the iQ back took more time than the phonecall.

It's cancer trying to cancel their service. Had to do it couple times now.

      • Why so hard?

        • Why so serious?

  • I currently have coax isolated to a box on my outer brick wall. Would the standard install include running a coax from that box to inside my home?

    • As far as I know all new Foxtel services are satellite, they're moving everyone off the HFC network.

LOL. I cancelled after the footy season and had to spend half an hour on the phone with 'the retention team'. They told me to downgrade to a cheaper plan until next season started. They swore black and blue that the new CEO had said that they'd never do a $0 install/no contract deal again.

Screw these guy. Screw their shitty ad filled service, screw their shrinking content, screw their cancellation hoops, screw their deceptive business practices, screw their antiquated pricing model.

Feel free to use and abuse the offer, but just know what you are getting into before you signup. You should expect the (old?) Fitness First treatment when it comes time to cancel!

    • Same same

    • An NVIDIA Shield + PLEX solves a lot of issues.

    • WWF= World Without Foxtel 🙂👍

    • Yeah I 100% agree with you. I signed up for the $39 deal for the AFL season plus an additional box for $10 (down from $25!!). I kept it running for an additional two months after the season but have now cancelled since both boxes were never turned back on. I didnt even realise that my second box wasn't even working until I went to cancel the deal so it was nice to know I was paying for a broken multi-room.

I will say that getting the free install was worth it though because when I switched over to Cable internet this year the coaxial port was already installed saving me around $200 from Telstra to install.

But I just mostly wanted to get in on the Screw Foxtel part. I paid $20 to have the comedy channel for two months to try and watch the newest season of Arrested Development but they only put the first 5 episodes on demand and the rest had to be series linked. Which I still never got to see the whole season… Its a (profanity) shit show of a company. I even received an additional call after cancelling asking if I wanted to pay $10 a month to keep the box on with a few channels until next season. I decline and was then asked why and I explained in detail my reasoning to be meet with "well I have other calls to make, you have my number and call back when you change your mind"… The sooner Foxtel goes under the better for digital streaming to pick up the last of the shows this Dinosaur of a company holds onto.

Also before I forget they keep trying to claim they have more movies than Netflix…. just isnt true and you have to either record them from the EPG or they have limited films in the on demand section if not they just cost the same as the itunes store and google play store.

AND!!!! still charging $10 a month for HD…

They installed a second port for me for internet cable and didn't charge a thing.

I recommend Kayo Sports for those who just wants to watch sports… the prices on these plans are a joke.

    • +1

Yep had the trial for 14 days, quality is awesome. I cancelled it on Saturday with a single click (before the end of the 14 days). Will resume sub in March for the start of the F1 season.

  • not sure why, I just hate foxtel

  • +1

Wanted to sign up for the $39 sports plan last year and they had the WORST customer service on chat that I have ever dealt with. So comically bad, not only could the bloke barely speak English but he couldn't even write out money figures correctly (quoted the price that I'd have to pay per month as $9.920, then $32930, then $3,99.20). That told me pretty quickly that it wasn't worth the hassle with them.

    • If you're just interested in sports… try Kayo Sports. Cheaper at $25 a month and is HD as well. Works great with chromecast/HDMI to TV.

  • +6

I still can't believe they charge extra for HD.
Their excuse to me was that "the majority of Australians do not have the equipment to utilise the benefits of HD" so they make it an extra instead. Either they are living in the 90s or I call bs

    • You need the upgraded foxtel box for HD, so thats what they probably meant.

Even a 720p TV will look better for various reasons including the higher bitrate.

      • +2

        Upgraded box for HD?
Considering HD has been available on IQ2 Onward since about 2010 I would suggest it is more about price gauging and to make their prices seem better

  • I wonder if Foxtel by Telstra will match this. Their ongoing deal of entertainment plus sport for 29 a month is much better value.

  • +2

Kayo Sports will be enough for me. Will sign up for the footy season next year.

  • +2

I always sign up for the free powerline adapters. My whole house has powerline coverage

  • Thanks OP for the deal. Anyone been able to get a better deal after the 1st free month? No way I will pay $139pm, would rather cancel. But I guess worth the free installation n free month during holidays :)

    • +1

Good luck with cancelling it once the free month offer. Prepare for the answer to the question why would you like to cancel it ? And they will agressively pursuade you to keep it. They will start with high amount then lowered it then keep asking what you are actually looking for, bla bla bla.

      • Thanks mate! Getting ready to make the call n do the cancellation dance, read a little bit online, people getting few deals. Just wanted to see if anyone able to do it just after 1 month. Will be happy to have the sports pack for $39,4K channel does look crisp, the only reason I want to keep it. Cheers.

        • If you only want sport have you looked into Kayo Sports? Share the $25/month subscription with a mate and it’ll be $12.50 a month.
