Not bad at all! Even as a streaming box/alternative to apple tv/nvidia shield/chromecast ultra etc - this could be a decent option.

      You should go to Specsavers.

Take note. Minecraft version for $199 was a 1Tb console. Expect to chew up the internal space extremely fast (fit maybe 2-5 full games). The previous deal on the MS store for $279 was for the 1TB console + games. I think its worth paying the extra price or wait for 1TB console to return to $199.

    • Personally, I agree. Got the Minecraft version for $199 and would rather pay a bit more than go down in storage. With the game pass, you just do want to have a few more games installed and ready to rock.

    • +2

You can't upgrade the internal HDD without voiding the warranty too. It's easier to connect a portable external hard drive though, I've got a 3TB for mine.

      • Yeah. But that means you have to spend more money.

    • +2

2 games? So each game 250GB? I would say you could get 5-10 games on there, plus external storage, I only play 2-3 games at a time anyway

      • +1

4TB WD My Passport recently had a deal for $100, you can definitely snatch them up around $130 consistently.

Better off investing in this rather than spending heaps more for 1TB, unless you manage to get a deal for a similar amount.

      • From experience
!! 2tb s (1.6tb actual storage after system )- dream console never wanting space
!! 1 tb Xbox elite (780.9 Gb free after sys) hovers around 80 gb free

        !! 500 gb s ( 362 free after sys) around 40 gb free)
[back traded for x IMHO only real use NB see pitfall below]

!! 1 tb X (780gb free after Sys but games can be 30% bigger hence only around hence 546 gb free) mainly used for x enhanced

Yes you can use external drives but when downloading game updates or digital downloads console must be fully on as downloading to external disc stops when console is off even in instant on mode.

Second pitfall consoles with low space that receive game updates greater then that space may kill download and existing game install
Additionally if the game is disk based and not digital plus received previous updates that create new type save files " reloading game from disc may destroy game saves on console and cloud " lost 2 user 2 years of Forza horizon 2 game progress because of this

Couldn't you just get around those standby and shutdown issues effecting external drives by initially downloading the game to the internal first and then moving it to the external once completed? Sure, it takes better management of your games but asking genuinely.

          • @cheepo: i have done the swap out to download to console internal workarounds but time consuming ..

        • not true, my xbox downloads to my external fine whilst in standby mode… it is a seagate 'xbox one' external drive though not just any external… may be that makes a diff.

    • Note to hat the minecraft console was for sale at $199 in the Black Friday deals but sold out very quickly.
I’m sure it will come around again. Maybe Boxing Day. But u need to b wuick

IMO never use internal storage for games unless you have to. Xbox has that wonderful ability of using external drives as the default game install location.

      Two reasons -

      1. Games load much faster, and the faster the drive you use the faster they load. YouTube it to see the difference but I save 30% load times on GTA5 with a small external SSD, which is huge.

      2. If you upgade to a new Xbox or your old one fails, you can connect the drive to a new Xbox and your games will be available. This doesn't sound like much but if you have a large library of games or when Red Dead 2 is a 90GB download and 3GB patch on day 1, it can save some hassle.

tl;dr I'd save money and buy the cheapest and then put the cash towards an external drive immediately.

  • Is it most of the XBox One games nowadays are 1080p?

XBox One X gone down a little bit $476.10

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Xbox-One-X-1TB-Console/dp/B078D2L6…

    • +1

Xbox One S is entirely 1080p but many games don't reach that. It can play 4k blu-rays though. XB1X supports games running at 4k but it depends on the games. Most new games coming out support over 1080p or native 4k.

      • Mostly 900p actually.

    • Third party games don't bother supporting true 1080p for XB1/S anymore (960p or lower). First party games still try to achieve 1080p for XB1/S (i.e. Forza Horizon 4).

So, if you must have at least 1080p on all games and it must be a Microsoft console, XB1X is the only choice. PS4/Slim, on the other hand, can still do 1080p consistently. XB1/S is still the most cost effectively console for playing GamePass games.

    • If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the One S attempt to do some up-scaling for games? I could be very very wrong.

      • It will upscale the game to 4K if you connect XB1S to a 4K TV/Display. However, if you have a 4K TV, XB1X is a more logical choice. If you can afford a 4K HDR TV, XB1X shouldn't be an issue.

I didn't have an issue with XB1S on 4K TV even using 1080p settings though (XB1X wasn't available until late 2017).

  • Xbox one s can upscale games to 4k where Xbox one X is native 4k.

    • +1

Xbox One x looks mint. But if you’re on a budget this’ll play the same games.

  • +2

I bought the Minecraft Xbox one s a while back when it was $188 after cashback and have barely used it. Nothing wrong with it when I do finally get a chance to play a game I prefer the PS4 just seems to be a bit more enjoyable to use.

    • +2

PS4 definitely has the better exclusives this generation (unless you are really into Car Racing). What Xbox has going for it is 4K Blu-Ray, Game Pass, EA Access, backwards compatibility (if you had a large 360/OG collection or missed some gems) and if you have the Xbox One X and a 4K TV, you have the best experience for cross-platform games.

  • Thanks OP, couldn't resist, if it's simply to finish Alien Isolation and start Rise of the Tomb Raider (which I both already own) it's well worth it

  • +1

OG xbox struggles to play games at 900p now and they look terrible compared to the one x

    • +2

Inferior - yes, Terrible - I think that's a bit too far stretched. Even if we look at RDR2, which really shows XB1/S struggling:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SlPQnLmy5c

Granted it is chapter 1, which doesn't really show how nice RDR2 looks (you want to look at chapter 2 onwards). Rockstar did a good job even for XB1/S version. Also, even though I play this game on XB1X with 4K, I still yearn for the game to be available on PC.

  • +8

Say what you will about this, it’s less than $200. Go try build a pc that can run games at the same settings for $200. Apples and oranges I get it, but still a valid point.

    • Yeah plus with game pass and many purchases being linked digitally to your account, could be worthwhile if you've got multiple TVs around the house.

      • if you store games on external drives you can take it to friends houses ….easier than them trying to download 50gb of game if you want to play together on short notice …. our nbn sucks ,some people are lucky on 100M fiber, some are not …work with what you got.

  • +1

    Good price this one

  • Where does it say Xbox One S? Isn't this the OG?

    • In the description, it's also say its 4k a d it also show model number that correspond to the one s

    • Read the comments above and the product description, it is a one s

  • Changed?

    Xbox One 500GB Console
    by Microsoft
    Price: $251.10 & FREE Delivery

    • +1

Yeah something is going on, think it was a price error all along

      • yeah the link has changed to the OG xbox one with the price jump. I think it was meant to have been the og xbox one 500gb listed at $199 and not the one s. Hopefully everyone who managed to order gets fulfilled with the right model and price.

        • Still, I think the PS4 slim and XB1 S 500gb versions should sell for sub-$200. The OGs should definitely be phased out.

I know, I know how some people prefer the OG PS4 over the slim…but there are so many issues like overheating and random disk eject errors with the OG. Had an OG once, seemed fine for 3 years and one day… BOOM constant disk eject issues.

Still too early to say about the QC of the slim… but the general consensus is much more positive. If you want higher performance 4k gaming, go PS4 Pro. Simples.

  • Fuuuckkkk i was looking around and now ive missed this @ $199 :(

    • Classic ozbargain mistake.

Hopefully you snag one next time for similar price.

      • tell me about it, i need more compulsive tendencies
