  • Awesome! Thanks for the heads up, been waiting for this game to come down in price! :D

    • me too… just got it! Thanks for the great bargain! :)

  • OMG time to get a second copy for a cousin! =)

  • I'm always a bit dubious of these key selling sites, but paying by paypal using a credit card is a pretty good insurance policy against them being fraudsters so thanks for posting the deal.

    • I agree.
Has anyone here used greenman gaming before? There has to be a dubious loophole they are exploiting to make it so much cheaper than steam.

      • Or steam could just be overcharging? Look at the amount of discounts they are able to give (80%+) and still make a profit. This game was on sale on steam for $29 just a couple of months ago.

      • Steam sells Civ V for $50 if you are (un)lucky enough to be american, so it's not as large of a discount as you first think

    • I had a look at this site the other day when they had another game up here and was trying to work out what the deal is.
Are they just another key website that send a scanned key to you in your email, or do they send the boxed game to you?

I think the almost identical copy of the steam site makes me more suspicious…

      • For this game GMG gives you a cd-key which you register in steam. I just bought it, and steam happily accepted the key. So, regardless of what happens now I trust steam and steam says I own Civ V. That's good enough for me.

        • My housemate bought L4D2 off one of those CD key sites, it worked in steam for about a month then suddenly it just disappeared from his games list.
When he emailed steam they told him to send a copy of his CD key to confirm he owned it, so he sent the scan that the website sent him, then they wanted a photo of the manual with it (which he didn't have).

When he emailed the CD key site, they gave him a new key pre-loaded in to a different steam account, but really, who wants two different account?

I bought my key from the same place and it's worked ever since the game came out, so he must have been unlucky, but it's made me a lot more weary of those sites…

    • +1

Its not a CDkey site its a Digital Distribution service like Steam, Direct2Drive, Impulse, Gamersgate and Gametap.

  • anyone know if this will work for the mac version on steam?

    • Yes.. I bought a PC retail copy, activated it within steam and when logging into my work Mac, it shows up as playable..

    • It should since its a Steamplay title (Both Mac and PC cross-platform)

      • cool, thanks

    worth upgrading from Civ 4?

    • Was wondering this myself… I still have a lot of playability in C4 BTS.

    • I've only seen a few reviews, but one review said that "It's really like a bunch of Civ fans got together and said 'right, let's fix all the things that have been bugging us' and the result is awesome."

Depends how much of a fan you are of the Civ series, how much you're enjoying Civ 4 and how much you value ~$20.

      • Yeah, for $20 and with comments like that I think I'll give it a go. Been playing since Civ 1 and was only disappointed with Civ3, so good odds of being happy. The non-stacking units should be a good (or at least interesting) change.

        • Out of Civ 2 and 3, I barely played 2 but thought 3 was alright lol. What am I missing?

But stacking units could be interesting in Civ3.. get mutual right of passage, stack 3 or 4 offensive units outside every single city they have then take them over in 1 turn ^_^ that was awesome fun lol, the AI tried to block me by sticking all their units randomly in their territory, had to use marines on a few coastal cities (since it's the only unit with amphibious attack, plus it has the only handheld submachine gun :))

  • Thanks, just bought it, works fine on Steam, fantastic bargain

  • Anyone know how good this game is in multiplayer mode?

  • When you buy this from this store does the game then pop up in the steam library and you can download it from in there?
