Lexar 8GB JumpDrive Retrax USB Stick @ Officeworks for $5.91

600

Low price due to clearance. Don't know if these are any good or if there are many in stock, only just spotted them on Officeworks' website. Gonna ring them up tomorrow to see if they got them in stock. Thought to share this while I'm at it. =)

    Excellent…even better value than http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/42404

  • Very good price but I don't see much of the Lexar retrax at OfficeWorks.. but you may be lucky!
However if you need to order it online, will need to add ~$4.xx & Delivery Cost making it not attractive deal.

  • with all these OW clearances, try to order and no stock available unless you try every store and maybe get lucky. If anybody gets one please post it up!!

    • pricematch from other retailers?

  • What's with OW online "handling fee" of $4.95.

    • special order and delivery to the store, where you can pick up. Obviously if it was in stock at your local store it's a waste of a fiver.

    • Even with, it's still a fair price for an 8GB drive, and a good price if you;re ordering more than one.

I've got one of these, I haven't done any full tests, but based on my year using it compared to my other 3 USBs and other people's I can say it's not going to be painfully slow like some cheaper ones :)

ed: it's also stood up well to abuse i.e. dropping it onto hard surfaces frequently, getting washed a couple of times in the washing machine.. no visible signs of damage unless you count logo fading.

My 32 gig has been more then fine too.

      • Scratch that, they are junk. Died on me after about the tenth use.

        • But OW has excellent refund policy.

I bought a 16GB version last year, and it was a great drive, good speed, no fuss. After about 6 months of regular use (including no dropping, washing or other violent acts) the sliding mechanism seems to have worked something loose so I can no longer copy data over. I'm contemplating returning it under warranty but haven't been bothered to call lexar. Anyways, just something to think about.

Yep, right there with you…I'm fairly certain my old Sandisk Cruzer Micro was starting to grow scales & gills, it was spending so much time in the water! :p

    • not intentional :P they used to live in my pockets 95% of the time I was awake, so everytime I forgot to take them out, they got a bath :)

I also have one of these. Performance has been satisfactory. It's not blazingly fast, neither is it watch the grass growing slow.

What is NOT satisfactory is the fact that I bought it for $10! And it was on store special then - limit one per customer and only in that store. Grrrr. It was less than 3 weeks ago.

    :p

Someone got you a $5.91 birthday present ???

        • +1

          Thats sad bro..real sad

          I kid :D

        • I suppose $5.91 is better than $0.00. :)

Hehe, "THEY ALSO RECOMMEND" the 16gb Lexar for only $69…!

  • Got the 16Gb variant from HN for %19 a while back. Was slower than my Sandisk Cruzer 16Gb. I guess 8GB for $5.91 isn't bad… but I'll wait for a decent price on the 16Gb sticks.

  • Hey guys, does anyone know how to check stock levels of each officeworks stores online (like dicksmith)? Is it even possible?

    • +2

      don't think is possible

Went to OW Collingwood (Vic) today. None in stock. Staff Member stated "Ï don't know why we stock them anyway. Most of them come back to us for exchange or refund after they fail after a couple of days". So I didn't worry about checking at the other stores in the area.

    • I can report that one of my 4Gb Lexar retrax sticks failed 2 days after. It was promptly replaced and all has been well.

    • Thanks for the heads up.

    • I went to the one in Bell St, Preston this morning. I was told that these Lexar 8GB for $5.91 was ONLINE ONLY.

"Does it say clearance? If it says clearance then it's online only."

  • none @ OW Blacktown
