Warranty after item sold

Hi guys,
Just interested to know what happens to warranty if someone was not the original buyer? e.g. someone gift me an item they have brought from a store like JB, HN, GG etc and the receipt says there name. Could any one claim the warranty within the time frame as long as they have the receipt or it can only be claimed by original buyer.

    Anyone can claim for warranty with receipt but the retailer/shop/manufacturer are not obliged to honour it unless it's the original purchaser as that's the contract of sale. Some of them do honour it no problem though.

    In all my years of buying stuff, I've never been asked for Id on warrantable item brought in a retail store.

    I've gone to HN and gotten a receipt reprinted into my name after I bought a 2nd hand item
