The EF 50mm F1.8 STM excels at portraiture, low-light photography, and adding an artistic edge to everyday objects and settings, thanks to its wide F1.8 maximum aperture and 50mm focal length.

Wide F1.8 Aperture
It's easy to capture superb portraits, or bold, artistic photos and movies with the EF 50mm F1.8 ATM - the wide F1.8 maximum aperture provides precise control over depth of field. Additionally, this wide aperture lets more light into the lens, so you can comfortably shoot in darker conditions.

Stepping Motor Technology (STM)
The EF 50mm F1.8 STM features stepping motot technology which delivers fast, smooth, and near silent autofocus capability. This is particularly beneficial when shooting movies or shooting in live view mode.

Compact, Lightweight and Affordable
The EF 50mm F1.8 STM has a compact and lightweight design, weighing a mere 160g, and easily slips into your bag adding very little to the overall weight of your kit. The lens's new design compliments Canon's spectrum, of EOS DSLRs, while the new metal mount provides a more robust connection to camerabodies.

      Yeah save your money, Shane.

@luke, Why didn't you PM Shane directly?

        • Funny🤣

Thanks Op. I have expired the $135.15 deal from digiDirect and referenced your post.

Thanks, great work Op. Free express delivery too!

If you have a Canon, get this lens and leave everything else at home, it's that good.

can I at least take the DSLR with me?

Awesome lens, however I often find I need to walk further back to take a shot than I think I need to. And in some cases it’s not usable for street photography.

      • Are you using it on a crop body?

        • Yup. Forgot to add.

If you don't to look like every other student, the 35mm F1.4 or 135mm f2.0 are the "leave everything else at home" lenses.

    • Unless you have a full frame body, trying to shoot everything with an 80mm lens is pretty restrictive.

  • Done!
    Can't resist at that price

  • Thanks OP. Bought one. Hopefully it's not a price error because the ex display stock is $127.

  • Wondering what the best deal is for a canon body around $600 to pair with this lens.
Anything with articulating screen, good video & mic input?

    Or am I better off with a m50/ m6

  • Did this lens get more expensive over the years? I bought this lense in 2011 (or a very similar one?) for $100 as well.

    • I think it's the exchange rate.

    • Everything gets more expensive over the years - it's called inflation. Fortunately the 50mm f/1.8 also got better with this latest version (apart from the 49mm filter thread).

      • Thanks everyone, all good points except for the inflation. Technology items tend to lower in price as they age - I didn't realise this was the third iteration of this lens.

      1. Our dollar was much, much stronger in 2011 (near parity with the USD).
      2. If you bought around 2011, you don’t have this lens. This is the 3rd iteration and was released in 2015. The biggest addition over the previous versions was the inclusion of a stepping motor.

you prob got the previous model, the STM was released in 2015

  • Didn't these lenses used to come with a shutter remote? I'm sure my one from a few years back did.

  • What adapter to use for sony a6500?

  • Great price. Had this a few years ago, knocked it off the bedside table and the entire casing smashed to pieces! The photos were pretty good though

  • Bugger, bought this when it was $134 a few weeks ago.

Take one awesome photo for every dollar difference, and you’ll thank yourself for it. 🙂

  • I can feel the site being ozbargained while trying to check out.

    • It is a Magento website, it's super slow by design.

  • Be careful about the completing the purchase order as I found that I have purchased a nifty fifty and subscribed to their newsletter with no unsubscribe option in the email they sent (no account created for purchase).

  • Probably a dumb question, but would it be worth buying this and an adapter for my old Nikon?

    • What camera do you own?

  • No longer available

  • No longer available again
