  • Great headphones (currently own Sennheiser HD58x, HD6xx, Beyer DT770 and these). Not amp picky at all, sound great out of just about anything.

    • Yeah I've heard that they're pretty good!
The M50xs sounded really good from an iPhone 7 so I'm assuming that my PC will be even better. Using a Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7 which supposedly has decent Audio on it.

Need to wait for a mod mic deal so I can replace my Hyper X Cloud 2's,should be a nice upgrade for both the sound and the mic.

      • AT boom mic is on sale on JB website, I think it would work with the M series.

        • That looks okay, but for the price/based on reviews I think a modmic is worth the extra $40?

          Thanks for the suggestion btw!

    • I've been looking at getting either hd6xx or dt770 pro. I play video games and listen to music on pc only. Hd6xx worth the extra price?

      • +1

DT770 and HD6xx are very different from each other, biggest difference being closed vs open back. Neither are easy to drive properly, except the 32 ohm 770’s. Even the 80 ohm 770’s need a fair bit of power to be properly driven. Depending on the onboard audio on you PC, both of these headphones are going to need an amp (plenty of cheap, good solutions) to be driven properly.

        • I have the ae-5 sound card. I tried alot of external dac/amp combos but most are really bad for PC use. If they don't have the 'always on' function you get clipped sound. That's one thing these 'audiophiles' never talk about.

@PlagueistheCheap: If you’ve got the ae5, the dac in that is absolutely fine and the amp should be fine too for the 6xx. You could always add an amp only later on if you feel the need. If your environment (kids, dogs, traffic etc) doesn’t necessitate closed back headphones, I’d definitely say go for the 6xx over the 770’s.

But, if you haven’t already, I’d really suggest you take a look at the HD58x. They’re $149US, but overall are every bit as good as the 6xx (each does some things better than the other). I’ve had mine since the first drop was shipped and they’re without a doubt the best value headphones on the market (in my opinion), and are very comparable to the HD660’s (with and without mods) which retail for $800 here in Aus.

            • @aja12: I've never looked at those and will do so today. I've been using b&w p5 on ear headphones and really love them but the build quality is just rubbish. I wont be buying b&w ever gain.

              Thanks for the tip

@aja12: Just ordered the HD58x, thanks for your help

For me the M40X sounds cleaner than the M50X, I've tried both. I like the M40X much better. The M50X is too muddy for my liking. Enjoy your purchase OP.

    • +1

Yeah I was actually just thinking exactly the same thing. I tried both and ended up buying the M40X

    • +1

Yeah that's what I've heard, which is why I went with the 40's myself vs the extra $60 for the 50's.

I've got some 50's that my mate has to compare them to when I get around to it, if this post isn't buried I may post my thoughts.

      Cheers!

Thanks OP . Just purchased M50x Blue Edition for $169 . Good price .

    • Good to hear!

  • Just made a post for the entire store discount here

It also works for Mannys it seems(Tested with a $900 guitar)

  • What's a not too rare low price for these? I am not in a hurry so can wait

    • Looks like these are the cheapest they've ever been on Ozbargain from a quick search.

The M50x's have been lower then this deal ($156), but if you are after the 40's I'd buy at this price.

They might go cheaper down the road; but we do not know nor do we know how long it'd be.

  • Mine arrived today with regular shipping which is amazing for rural TAS.

I am amazed that I've been listening to music without a decent pair of cans for so long, specially FLACs.

I can definitely tell the difference between these and my Hyper X Cloud 2's for music.

I can't really hear my Cherry MX Blues over the music as they're pretty tight/cushioned.

Wow, this is a good deal, even considering a lot of people prefer the M40x to the M50x.
    Might pick these up.

Also, PSA, you should look into some aftermarket earpads for the MX series. Better pads elevate these to a new level.
