My yearly membership was cancelled without explanation or refund few months after it started. Beware.

    They don’t reply emails either.

Also there is no way to use account credits.

As people have mentioned in the other deal the best support method is Twitter.

Did you forget to check in, do a credit card chargeback? I find it hard to believe they canceled your account without cause or reason.

I used account credits to renew my plan roughly 6 months ago, they are usable as long as they can cover the whole amount.

      • They did not cancel it just stopped working. The app says login denied. Can login to the website though, but to make booking you need app. Tried two phones.

  • Does anyone know if you can renew your membership early, using one of the promo codes listed (namely, WatchDeadpool)? And if you can, is it possible to fund the purchase with these gift cards?

I have an annual membership and it's basically unusable because the common theatres in Australia reject sinemia cards and the PayPal workaround is not consistent because naturally aren't incentivisdd to unlink their card.

    • Its the people using paypal that dont unlink the card. I found that you have to try few times before you can link the card to paypal.

Yeah, but also they impose a limit on how many times U can make an advanced ticket within a certain time frame. So this service is super crappy unless you're well prepared in deciding which movie you want to watch well in advance and willing to spend maybe a few hours just to get a ticket.

They also started charging a fee per booking per person (for careless) so I had an annual membership already and they imposed a random rule to start charging per booking and there's nothing that we can do about it. Essentially the price of the membership went up.

They also are doing physical cards apparently which aren't "available" for our region yet which is just dumb.

Completely agree, it's a real pain trying to get this to work. I advise people to stay well away.

  • I've had my annual membership for 3 months now. I use Event Cinemas and pay using the Virtual Credit Card directly on their site. Do not need the PayPal workaround anymore with Event.
Seen 8 movies this month alone. Only had 1 rejected but waited for 20 mins as has been suggested and tried again where it worked.

It is a frustrating service, but I've figured out the limitations and workarounds and as a person who sees 2 movies every week, it is saving me a fortune.
Plus with Event, it is earning me points so I'm getting a free movie for every six I see.

    • 2 movies/wk..are you a movie critic?

      • Going to the cinema is one of the few passions in my life. If only I could find someone interested in my opinions.

    • Do you know if you can go to Gold Class at the Event Cinemas with an Elite subscription?

i was forced to chargeback them on account of them failing to deliver my membership card. they are fraud. and yes they dont reply. also the paypal workaround never works. it is not a straightforward deal. they r just interested in geetting ur money but not in providing service. steer clear.

had the exact same experience, waited a month and had to do a chargeback. they are scammers. i think their business model is to hope people forget they ordered it. just grab some cheap tickets when the cinemas do their 10 for $90 deals.

the old saying applies here, if it sounds too good to true, it probably is

      • They haven't done physical cards for months, I'm not even sure it was part of the Australian offering.

        • +1

Yes, I received a physical card. The physical card did not work.

  • +2

80% of people get their money taken without the service being delivered. Stay away or be cautious.

Granted, there is some long winded work-around (that isn't an official Sinemia solution) that some people do to get their service to work, but don't expect it to be easy. And average customer service times are 2-3 months, if any response at all is gained. Hoping another service like movie pass comes to Australia soon!

    • Actually it is an official sinemia workaround, I've asked Twitter support.

      • +1

I had 4 months of support to fix my issues and I heard nothing back. The debit card they sent me wouldn't work at all, for any method. There's nothing on the official website to determine this workaround whatever it is either.

Bottom line is, it's a risk giving this company your money

also whats with code 'WatchDeadpool'? this was the code when i got tricked into it, deadpool 2 was released agos ago, this is just laziness

    • The code is old but still valid, it offers a better deal than others for those plans which is why I mention it.

  • NewyearPromo is another code, differing rates to the above.

This outfit has form for not honouring contracts. The last thing anyone should be doing is buying gift cards. OP has helpfully summarised many of the issues with the actual subscription service, but note that these issues are not disclosed by Sinemia itself. See also the various ozbargainers whose subscriptions have been cancelled part way without a refund.

  • Works for me. Been on the monthly plan for two using the Deadpool promo code and have so far watched a movie every month since May 2018. The $5 a ticket deal is unmissable, and though they have recently introduced the booking charges, hard to neg them, considering the margins and their business model.

  • I got the yearly 2x2 per month thing for ~$160 about 6-8 months ago. I think I used it with both tickets maybe 10 times, which on an average of $40 for those 2 tickets, has left me out in front by a lot. But in the past 2 months, it has stopped working completely. Hoyts and palace cinemas worked easily with the digital mastercard, but I haven't been able to make it work at all anywhere now. Is it possible that they are loading the cards with money, but some automated systems from the cinemas are rejecting them? Or they took all the initial money and ran lol
