I am a bit of a Breville fan and realised I need to eat a bit more healthy. What could be a better food than eggs? If you really aren't that good at cooking eggs (myself included) but need to eat them more (they are cheap too). Then what could be better than a PROPER egg poacher/cooker? None of this $5-15 crap from China!

I've been hankering to grab something like this for a while and discovered it at a good price, only $89 from Amazon.com.au! I say 'only' because it usually retails at $199 and hovers at $119-129 on special. This IS the cheapest I have ever seen it!

Anyway, while we all know Anova is the bee's knee's this also apparently does sous vide. Great if you want to experiment and like the idea of having your own little pot and cooker to do it in.

Wouldn't usually buy it but I have been eating breakfast out waaaaaaay too often lately due to my job and figure if I use this to get into a routine and save money, why not?

TL;DR Some idiot raving on about a great egg cooker

Not sure why iam neg-ed. I was referring to OP who suggested what can be more healthy than eggs? Tons out there, grains and legumes, how about tofu and tempeh for protein source, beats egg!

Also what's wrong with pot, hot water and timer? Do normal household really need a dedicated egg boiler?

      edit: spelling.

I plan to do some personal hotpot etc. I understand there are many ways to do this but the temperate control is what does it for me

        • Temperate… too much work! Temperature! :P

      • Tons out there, grains and legumes, how about tofu and tempeh for protein source, beats egg!

        LOL, righty…

Thanks for the tldr version 😂

    • I like to give people a laugh

Figured I can also use it to boil and maybe do hotpot

  • Baby bottle steriliser anyone?

  • Some smart arse from Amazon has just bumped the price

seems heston worked out that perfect temperature to poach eggs so whites don’t go rubbery, etc.

this is tempting, so far i set. my kettle to 90c and i just use the water and residual heat to poach an egg, but this might be handier.

    • Gone back to normal 'special' price so I'd stick with the kettle. Not holding my breath to see if I get cashback as well

even at the $118 it's still the cheapest price around, so still deal

guess for people it's the simplicity of this unit vs buying an anova nano suis vide.

Benefit of this is drop the eggs to be poached straight into the water, with a suis vide you need to cook in the shell, or cook in glad wrap of the suis vide circulator would suck up the little bits of egg white.

looking at you tube people also use the breville for poaching fish, etc. It seems ideal for single people or couples who do things in small amounts.

At $89 I would have gotten one, at $118 need a few beers so I feel impulsive.

        • They were $89 in the David Jones Boxing Day catalogue

        • with a suis vide you need to cook in the shell

Which is super easy - you take them out of the fridge and drop them into the sous vide. Not really a drama.

          • @mickeyjuiceman: then you need to shell them and not break the white or the yolk comes out …. with normal poaching just crack the shell and drop straight into water.

    The World's gone mad

    • +2

Why… because I can almost precisely control the temperature of the boiling liquid? Can use it for hotpot, boiling meat, prepare other dishes, do eggs, experiment with sous vide? Yeah… mad…
