Alternative to Cashrewards - Recaptcha makes log in to Cashrewards impossible now

A nice welcome to 2019 from CashRewards… they've implemented Google's Recaptcha on 'hard mode' (ie: even the usual trick of being logged in to accounts.google.com in another tab before doing battle doesn't work) and so I am locked out of my CashRewards account (because Google Recaptcha never, EVER works.

Even though I might eventually manage to convince Recaptcha that I'm human after twenty or so attempts, there's no way I'm going to do that every time I want to buy something on-line. Sp I need a new rewards site…

So what are my alternatives? Is ShopBack alright? Any traps or tricks there? Any others?

With thanks in advance,

D

Update: just tried to sign up for ShopBack and the very first thing they want is a phone number… so I guess that takes them off the list, too… sigh! :-)

    • Don't you have a phone number?

I have a phone number alright… actually, I have several… but what those numbers are is none of ShopBack's business! :-)

edit: multiple downvotes, for preferring to maintain my privacy? that seems a bit strange to me. Am I bad for wanting to protect my identity from a foreign company (from a country that doesn't have the finest privacy record in the business) that I've literally never heard of before today?

Just use a fake phone number lol

        • What if they want to call you?

  • Are you using a VPN? They don't play nice with Google's captcha.

No, I'm not. Right now I'm using a generic fresh install of Google Chrome on a generic fresh install of LinuxMint (LMDE) on a generic Australian ADSL link to a generic Australian ISP… nothing unusual about what I'm doing.

This isn't a one-off experience though. Google's ReCaptcha always gives me grief, regardless of whether I'm using Windows or Linux or OSX or Android… Firefox or Chrome… ADSL, Cable, 3G/4G, whatever. Pretty much the craziest let-your-hair-down-and-go-wild thing I ever do online is use AdBlock Plus with whitelists for obviously necessary stuff like, you know, Google auth, captcha, etc! :-)

From what I can tell, Google's ReCaptcha seems to have various 'difficulty' modes. Most modes won't even bother to ask you to 'prove' your humanity if you're already logged in to a google account in another tab, but in what I've called 'hard mode', there's really nothing you can do but either bang your head against the wall for a dozen or more attempts, or give up in frustration and find a site that doesn't use Google ReCaptcha.

I've never had problems with CashRewards before today, I've never been asked by them to complete The Impossible Captcha (tm) before today… but now I've chosen the second option: to find another site! :-)

Why are you calling everything generic when they aren't even generic?

Secondly, I have not been experiencing these recaptcha issues at all. They usually ask for them from unknown sign in locations. Just a hint.

Or maybe take time to read the recaptcha right?

If it's platform wide then it's more of a you issue ;) Take the traffic lights or the sign captcha for example, check the boxes that show the lights and the what's on the sign itself (e.g. STOP) and not the rest of it like the pole. I used to include everything and it would always fail.

Alternatively you can use UnCaptcha with the latest update claiming 91% accuracy.

  • Update: I have a referral code for shopback now, thank-you.

    Are you a robot?

Most difficult recaptcha I have ever come across https://imgur.com/a/TjXwgF5

    • I know that would really slow down browsing, but I don’t even think I’d mind.

Hi douglasb, and a Happy New Year. The tech team had to make a few emergency temporary fixes over the past few days as our site was being hit by malicious requests from certain IP addresses. The quickest fix during this period was to implement the above. Can I please ask you to log in to your Cashrewards account again as I believe the issue is now resolved and you should no longer receive the reCaptacha challenge. Thank you.

    • I haven't been able to sign in to cashrewards for 2-3 days now; I can only get in using chrome on android that has the account credentials cached. I don't mind the recaptchas, however they aren't even loading these days, so I can't use my desktop / laptop which I prefer (and I always clear cookies there, so no cached login).

Now working again fine, thanks to something TA arranged to be fixed.

    • Probably trying to find the account that cashbacks go to when they don't show up in customers accounts since it happens so often, they'd be millionaires!

FYI you have one less user because of recaptcha. No login obstacles with Shopback.

    • Why are you digging up an old thread that hasn't been active for 9 months without reading the reason for the Recaptcha?
      Can you read?

      Just a little suspicious…just saying..

      No login obstacles with Shopback.

      • But all these months recaptcha is still there, no matter IP or different browsers. I intended to post my resignation on Cashrewards' forum but guess what - recaptcha prevented my login. Where else do you suggest to vent my frustration?

It took you that long to raise it up?

Also, are you using a VPN/IP of some sort?
CAPTCHAs are usually only triggered by suspicious activity
