What do you think? If you had won 7500€, don't you think they would use a more reliable and thorough channel than SMS? It screams spam.

  • scam you can get a free europe.com email from

It's your lucky day - its not 75,000 its 750,000. They will eventually want your internet banking password or $50 or whatever so they can send you the money, which doesn't exist.

    try googling it

    i got this facebook answer:

    Victorian Detective Services
The latest scam to hit Australian shores is via text message which states the following "Congrat your cell phone number won E750000 in three g mobile win
Promo. Your money is ready to be sent to you. For details contact
Patrick on [email protected]" The message has been sent via a Swedish phone number. This is an outright scam! DO NOT REPLY. Thank you to Barry for making aware us of this.

I won a few million last month on my work phone!

  • i believe it is a scam, sorry :)

  • its a scam.. they wouldn't use sms to inform you..

  • It sounds like a scam. I even received phone calls in the past to say I won a compeition from random draw and asked me to collect the voucher for reputable companies. In the end, they tried to ask me to sign certain documents and collect money within the contract. Nearly got con lol

  • Mate, you got cheated. I just got an email telling me I've won a lottery worth ₤750,000. :P

Spam obviously. Even labelled as such by my provider's filter.

  • spam for sure

  • It's a lottery scam. From the same people who send the Nigerian next of kin scams.

You are doing the right thing checking here. Send me $30 & I'll thoroughly check it out for you … just in case … you wouldn't want to miss out on 7,500 euros on the offchance its genuine would you?

    ;)

    • OMG This really made me LOL!

  • The OP sounds like my mum - she sends me optimistic 'is this for real?' messages every so often in response to phishing attempts. A few weeks ago, she filled in her full details (name, address, date of birth, etc.) in response to an e-mail claiming she'd won a trip to Disneyland. At least she sometimes checks with me first, but I fear when she's 80 she'll be totally credulous and vulnerable, and end up one of those people you hear about who lost tens of thousands to a Nigerian scammer :(

Anyone else have a member of the family who's similar? How do you gently nudge them toward being more skeptical?
