    As a graphics designer myself, I've taken a few free courses and to be honest, I learnt more from youtube videos than these videos. Youtube is less informal yet very engaging.

    But i guess these online certificates, you can put on your CV as self-educated which is good too see.

      Any youtube channels you recommend learning from?

        One that comes to mind straight away is: Color Theory for Noobs | Beginner Guide, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvgCkHrcj90

        It's straight to the point, well informing the audience and gives great visual examples. Also has a test at the end.

        • Thanks for sharing 🙂

  • D'oh, you need access to the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to do the Graphic Design Bootcamp ones… anyone know a way to access it without paying for a subscription?

    EDIT: BTW, Design Theory Blitz doesn't require specific software, thankfully.

    • Well of course you need those things. I’d hope those are the tools used in this package.

      • These are free if you have a kid studying in a public school. Or take a monthly subscription.

        Well of course you need those things.

        That is a common misconception. Adobe products are excellent, but for most tasks they are simply not necessary. Some excellent free alternatives include-
        * Inkscape for vector art.
        * Gimp (in conjunction with GMIC plugin) for image editing.
        * Krita for digital painting/drawing.
        * Blender for 3D modelling, video effects and other stuff.

        There are others, but these are the ones I use on a regular basis.

        • If you’re charging clients money, why not just use adobe software though?

          • @AustriaBargain: It's a fair enough question and the answer is it really depends on you. I could easily ask why not just use free software to do the same thing?

            For me, I abhor their price gouging of Australians. I'm not up to date with their current practices, but I remember they use to charge Aussies almost twice as much as Mericans for the exact same digital download (CS4 and other software). [OLD OLD LINK] (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1581106) That might not sound like a big deal, but no body likes paying an extra $1000 bucks for the exact same thing as someone else. I put up with it though until they moved to their subscription model, but enough was enough.

            It seems like they might still be up to their old tricks though -> https://www.crn.com.au/news/adobe-blames-us-exchange-rate-as… https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2017/05/creative-cloud-keeps-gett…

            The biggest negative for me was having to retrain, but these days there are plenty of free tutorials- https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/ and I stopped using Adobe over 5 years ago.

            If you are just starting out (which I imagine people doing the Graphic Design Bootcamp are) why slave yourself to Adobe?

              @hailingstars: Adobe is what most of the guides are built around, it's what employers expect you to know, and when you're given someone else's work files they are always adobe format. Plus the less time you spend learning all kinds of third party versions is time you could spend working or relaxing.

    • Just use Microsoft paint??
