Wtf is a UDIMM and RDIMM?

    Nvm googled it

RDIMM is REGISTERED memory and UDIMM is UNREGISTERED memory. This means a few things: UDIMM is limited to two DIMMs per memory channel and UDIMMs offer slightly better memory bandwidth for one DIMM per channel. However when using two or three DIMMs per channel, you will get better memory bandwidth with RDIMMs

    • RDIMM has registers (flipflops), UDIMM doesnot. So dont mix them.

UDIMM is unregistered dimm aka "normal" memory for mainstream PCs. RDIMM are registered dimms for servers.

      • Guessing you can't use these for normal system?

        • It's more about the CPU, if the CPU supports ECC RAM then yes you can use ECC. I don't see why you would want ECC for a normal home use PC anyway.
Most server CPUs will support ECC RAM. i.e Xeon etc.

        • UDIMMs can be run with some high end Ryzen/Threadripper systems and low end Xeons

Should be noted that both of the Dell ECC memory kits seem to be refurb/pulled kit.

That said they are >50% off over BNIB equivalents.

They are “new never used” not refurbished

New: Never Used: A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear. The item may be missing the original packaging, or in the original packaging but not sealed. The item may be a factory second or a new, unused item with defects. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfection

They’re listed as “resealed” not “new” on graysonline so likely it’s a refurb/pulled kit.

im just going by the add, yes mentions resealed, if they where refurb would be under refurb, maybe call grays to check

          "Condition:New: Never Used"

    32GB per DIMM? Wow nice

  • Should I get the D6000 or D3100? Seems a decent premium for USB C.

D6000 looks like the sweet spot - USB-PD (20V/65W) will charge a lot of the recent Latitudes. Thanks OP!

    Thanks OP, ordered 2x 16GB ddr4 sticks.

      Received mine late yesterday.
Opened package this morning and these things are brand new, in Dell box, still sealed.
Sticker on front shows they are from June and October 2017 for customer install.

Put them in my Dell PC (which I got from this deal) and working a treat.

32GB of goodness for what I was considering getting 16GB for…. and it is manufacturer specific!!

Now thinking I should have gone for 4x to max out the motherboard slots and have 64GB of RAM. I want to run some VMs (already have 1) so would be able to make use of this…. just had to make a decision on how many $'s I had "spare" at time of the posting.

      Thanks again OP

      • good to hear
