2 in 1 Laptop with Touch Screen and Pen

Looking for a budget to mid range 2in1 that has touch screen and a pen that I can draw with. Pen doesn't have to be integrated but probably prefer that. Budget $1,000. Is that too low/not possible?

Generally only word processing and excel work and far too many chrome tabs at once. I will usually have it docked, but take it on the go from time to time, so an amazing screen isn't really needed.

Hoping for some suggestions please

    Microsoft Surface Pro?

$899 from JB Hifi (cursory search only, could be cheaper elsewhere).

But wanting a decent touchscreen at this budget means you shouldn't expect any performance out of this more than basic productivity like word processing and light spreadsheeting. Oh and only 4GB Ram, so you might have to ease up slightly on those Chrome tabs.

    • Thanks, that was one of the models I've been looking at so far

      • What kind of drawing are you planning to do on the laptop? Because if it's anything serious (or really anything), you'd need a fairly good touchscreen since most touchscreens are mainly used as an interface (for clicking on things, scrolling, zooming, etc) and not for creative input which requires far more fidelity and sensitivity. The Surface is I think one of very few devices which have a good enough touchscreen for those kinds of use-cases.

The other alternative is to get a normal laptop and then add a Wacom tablet maybe? I've seen them go for as cheaply as $50 at ALDI for a smaller sized model.

        • I mostly use the pen for marking up PDFs…. I don't know how but I haven't seen a Wacom before. Looks like it might suit me better going that way. I will check it out. Thanks

I'm using that surface pro with the M3/4/128 bundle, it's great for my needs as a travel computer (fairly basic - mainly browsing, email using thunderbird, some light typing/spreadsheets). Great battery life, drives an external monitor no problem (need displayport dongle), microsd slot to expand storage too. Had a great deal when HN had it for $797 less $100 in two amex credits after xmas, but that offer has expired. Microsoft pen - never used it, but the youtube reviews on it are good, about another $100 for that.

edit - if you're just marking up PDFs the surface pen would be fantastic for that. Go play with one in a store somewhere to see if it suits.
