Also if anyone is interested in something with more graphics power, there are refurbished ASUS ROG GL502VS with GTX1070 for $1559.20. Only five in stock so not enough for an ozbargain post.

    • +1

With a 120hz screen and 1070gtx, thats a steal. I got mine new for $2300 and was very happy with it at that price point.

      • Thats a good price for new, where'd you get it from?

        • +1

Ebay with a 20% off coupon I posted it on this site.

      • The one posted is a refurb though.

        • Yup, no one disputing its a referb. This is still a great price for this unit.

    • Price is coming up as $1,850 for me, am I looking in the right spot?

      • +2

You need to apply the code at checkout to get 20% off.

        • Ah my bad, thanks!

    • Never ever bBuy refurbished products.

      • Dell's factory refurbished PC's are a great buy. You still get the full on-site warranty and often 40% discount

        • -4

But isn’t this that components are overused and do not work at full power?
I got a laptop once a refurb and it didn’t work as it should

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: I think you're getting confused between how some CPU and GPU chips can be performance restricted from factory (due to them not meeting the full performance requirements during testing) and sold as a different product (which sometimes means you can "unlock" them to get far better performance); and a refurbished product, which is typically due to a single component failure that would be replaced with a new component.

Refurbished products undergo full hardware checks (though sometimes not very good ones) and are essentially "used" products (usually not for very long, days, weeks maybe) that have been "made new" again by the factory because the original purchaser had some issue with part of it.

    • i7 7th gen. Bit dated

      • Still good though. It’s about the same as the i5 8300H
        No issues with gaming.

  • Is it 1×8GB ram? Or 2x4??

    • +1

      From Description:

      8GB, 1x8GB, DDR4, 2666MHz

    • +1

The 1060 has 2 x 4 according to the description

    • Can't always rely on the description - ordered one of the i7 1060 G5's through the last eBay sale with "1x8" in the description and received 2x4, but Dell support quickly arranged for the sticks to be swapped for a single 8. Might be worth sending a message to their eBay page to be safe (they're quite responsive).

      • I'm wondering Is the laptop temperature ok while using it?

        • Yep, while gaming the CPU can get quite toasty (over 90 degrees - I have the 6-core i7 8750H model so that's to be expected with both the CPU and GPU working hard and sharing the same heatsink) but the GPU is cooler. Fans also get quite loud, but that's expected.

      • Just out of curiosity why would you want 1 by 8? I thought the dual channel vs single channel performance difference was huge.

        • +1

Wanted to install another 8GB stick for 16 total.

EDIT: Also, you're definitely right about performance - dual-channel can make quite a difference. Here's a good video for others interested.

Seriously don't invest or buy 8 G ram over $1000. At that price get a decent brand and 16G for $1000 plus. dell is useless.

    • What do you suggest instead?

  • Huh. That's pretty thin looking. How is it compared to the Inspiron line up?

    • The Dell with the 1060 is a great buy you can replace the sata ssd with a m.2 nvmie drive and get 2000+ mps speeds. You would be crazy not too as the SSD is slow at 350 mps.

A 1060 is ample for full hd gaming dont waste for 1070.

  • Would Dell Inspiron G3, Intel Core i5-8300H, 8GB Ram, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, GTX1050TI be sufficient to edit 4k / 1080p videos taken by an action cam?

    • +1

Plenty powerful enough with the 45W CPU, but the screen is pretty awful (if you're concerned with colours/accuracy when editing). Description says it has 1x8GB stick of RAM, so it might be worth buying another 8GB stick for 16 total like this - $84 after the POOLTIME code and same frequency as the other stick (I'm running one of these in my G5). Dual channel (2 sticks) also can have a huge impact on performance.

      • +1

You are a champ, sir. Would you mind elaborating on the screen though? How come it is pretty awful?

        • +1

Reasonably low brightness (~200cd/m2), low contrast, ~37% Adobe and 58% sRGB colour space coverage as in this review. Won't find anything around this price with these specs and a great screen though.

  • The GTX1060 laptop seems pretty good value - I've run a comparison to other websites and nothing comes up with a 1060 under $1300 unless you are picking a second-hand laptop via ebay.

  • Just wanted to let others know - a very good pc is also the refurbished ROG STRIX GL503 (its $1,399 after applying POOLTIME) from Ebay seller treasure_pc_online

    • It’s ok but I would get the GTX1070 I linked above or the Dell G5 instead. I would say the 8th gen i5 is about the same as the 7th gen i7. The ROG has a full GTX1060 as opposes to the max-q in the Dell but benchmarks show it’s not far behind a full. I’ll give the screen is definitely an improvement. RAM can be upgraded for the G5 within the price difference. So the ROG costs $120 more and is refurbished with the only real advantage being the screen.

Edit: looks like the 1070 one is gone.

      • Yeah that was a good deal for circa $1500.

Hopefully mwave has a couple of 1070's in that price range this year.

  • +1

Not familiar with 'G3', but did know the Inspiration 15 7xxx Gaming series - is this the replacement for the gaming models?

    • Yes, it the replacement to the Inspiron Gaming Series.
It's very similar. Just some different colours and the 8th gen Intel processors.

  • i must have missed something… but with dedi'ed GPU… How is this a gaming laptop?

    • Dedicated graphics (Nvidia and AMD Radeon) are good for gaming
Integrate graphics (Intel and AMD Ryzen) are generally not good for gaming

  • How does this compare to the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro?

    • That’s more of a general use laptop with capabilities for light gaming. These are proper gaming laptops which can run modern games med-high settings.

  • If not looking specifically for gaming capabilities would you suggest something like a Dell Inspiron 15 7000?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-Laptop-8th…

Not looking to do anything that should demand high performance such as gaming or photo/video editing.

    Appreciate any opinions.

    Cheers
