Just thought i'd let you know as this price is now in store and they have very limited stock.
    All the Best !

  • +2

A tangible store. Hmmm. Now customers can go totelstra to buy stuff and not just to file complaints.

    • -1

Im going in there to make a ^%$&ing complaint, Ordered mine online saturday morning and it still has not been dispatched. (people who ordered sunday and mondays have been dispatched mostly).
Just went down to my closest telstra store during lunch and they are closed for good.

      • How do you check you order status on Telstra's website? I couldn't find any link in the confirmation email sent by Telstra.

        • Unfortunately you can't check status at the moment online.
          Gerd

        • -5

I appreciate the original post from Gerd/Telstra. I feel there shouldn't be a separate post - especially not from a Telstra rep. (Also, people already reported they managed to buy them from some Telstra shops last weekend).

For online orders, you'll get an e-mail from Telstra once the item is dispatched. Once you received that e-mail, you can check the delivery status from the AAE web site. One of the comments in the other post has the link (you will need your Telstra order number). It does not matter whether you picked post to your location or collect from shop, the AAE site will show you the delivery status either way.

Basically the order workflow goes: Order Received -> Order Being Processed -> Dispatched -> Delivered. You get an e-mail or SMS for most steps except when the order moved from Order Received to Order being processed. The only way to tell whether your online order has been processed is to contact Telstra (and the number in the first e-mail is incorrect - check the other post for the correct number). AAE tracking is pretty good (but Telstra does not provide you the URL so check the comments on the other post).

Most people get their online orders within 2 business days (excluding country areas). Some people reported receiving theirs in 1 business day.

      • +1

order sat day, received today…very happy :)

    • +13

It would get Lost in the original deal, so letting everyone know as a seperate post.. Visited 2 stores one was out of stock and the other had 5, so this will really help anyone desperate for one.

      • +1

        true. +

      • +1

Usually better to have all the info in one place that way its easier to judge stock levels at each store, other user experiences etc

  • +1

Good idea making a new one the old one was too big. And ot!

  • Are you sure this is available in stores?? I was at the T-Life store today at 400 George St Sydney and did not see the new reduced price… I was actually there to check if I can pick up the one I ordered online and they said no, I had to wait until I get the confirmation email.

Also, Telstra website still says it's an online offer only… Do you or anyone have a photo or something to prove that this is in fact a real deal?

    • I was there too.. They had the signs at 1.30 when i was there.. They just dont have any stock..

      • +6

I went upstairs and had sushi today

    • Many have managed to get it at $299 in store. Just tell them the price's just been updated and they need to scan it.

Btw, hard to find a store near me still has stock though :(

    • I got it for 299 instore so yes it is real.

  • I WAS WAITING FOR THIS!!!

  • Rumours that bankstown tshop are selling these, go to them and say doggies brahhh and ultimately they should sell it to u

  • Just went to Rowville VIC. OUT OF STOCK
Called Glen Waverley VIC. said $408 outright. The manager told me it's Online only or go on a plan!!!

Any VIC shops selling outright for $299??

    • Called them again. The manager wouldn't sell for $299 unless you get a mobile repayment plan.

      @#$@#ing @#$@$#s…

      • These are typical examples of why people hate Telstra!!! We all know that tomorrow the halfwits will get the orders from the hive queen & it'll be the price it should be!

Sorry Telstra, but for this particular impulse buyer tomorrow is too far away! ;)

P.S. Sorry Dealayed, I've gotta neg this til Telstra stop jerking ppl around, it's clearly not available in all stores!

        • I got mine from Knox VIC just then for $299
          they were nice =P

        • +1

dw at a close price point the asus transformer is a better android device (the best according to apple…i mean engadget would you beleive)

so u saved urself some money unlike the other 317 ppl here who have small hands and need a 7"

        • Cheers furythree, I've been hearing some rumbling about the Transformer, it's certainly sounding promising.

As I was saying, this would've purely been an impulse buy, it's a decent enough device & price, don't get me wrong; but I don't really need a tablet now, so yes the money saved could go toward a better unit when I do need it…and if that is at a similar price point…well, we're entering woohoo territory right there! :)

  • +10

I almost broke and bought one of these a few minutes ago even though I didn't really need it. Thankfully, the sheer incompetence of Telstra & it's agents saved me from myself!

I went into a local Telstra store, told them I wanted one, no prob coz they have stock:

    drone: that'll be $408 thanks…
SB: er no, the instore price has been reduced
drone: no, that's an online special
SB: check again, the instore price has been reduced by Telstra to match
drone: we're privately owned, we can't sell it at that price
SB: the sign up there says "Telstra Store", what's this privately owned BS?
    drone: we're privately owned
SB: Yeah, you said that…well, you'll never sell anything to me, thanks for your time!

Exeunt SB, $299 better off! :)

    • +2

Don't take it out on the sales rep, it's not his fault he is following the policy of their owners. The price will likely be passed down eventually, but sales reps cannot budge from what they are told to do.

      • +8

Well by the sounds of it, the sales drone didn't even bother to look up the price on the computer.. I think its that level of slackness that really p*$$ us all off.. Can you at least just look, please.. you're here to sell me stuff and at least make some sort of effort, not tell me to go jump..

    • +3

It's not always obvious, but there are Telstra-owned stores and Telstra-licensed stores.
So sometimes the deals that Telstra offer aren't necessarily available at the Telstra-licensed stores.

Either way, still saved you $299… =)

      • Yeah, they're certainly not obvious…full Telstra shopfit etc, made me think it's a Telstra operated store. These types of stores, IMHO, really should have clear signage that they are not official Telstra stores, but merely licenced resellers.

You're right though, it saved me from an impulse buy that I really didn't need. I was just seeking some retail therapy, it's only Tuesday & it's already been a tough week…oh well, I guess I can settle for some cathartic release bitching to you guys about it! ;)

        • -2

Sounds like they told you pretty clearly that they are "privately owned".

Correct me if I am wrong, but you seem to be negging a Telstra store deal because of something a non-Telstra store is doing.

        • +6

I agree, regardless of who owns the place, it's still Telstra who has to take some of the blame. If we got food poisoning at MacDonalds would we say that the headoffice is off the hook just because it was ran by a franchisee?

It's up to Telstra to make sure anyone with their branding upholds their standards. Or perhaps that is their way to maintaining Telstra standards

        • +6

@branko - A 'non-Telstra' store? Excuse me, but if a store has the big "T" prominently displayed then it's a Telstra store, regardless of who owns it.

        • +10

Correct me if I am wrong

          @branko, consider yourself corrected champ!

Sounds like they told you pretty clearly that they are "privately owned"

Yes, eventually…but I had to unsuccessfully attempt to negotiate a purchase to find that out. Now, let me reiterate coz you haven't seemed to pick up on this bit…the signs outside & inside said "Telstra Shop", NOT "Private Shop with a Telstra Agency", comprende?

I'm negging because this deal is NOT available in every store that is Telstra branded, regardless of 'ownership'; I thought that was pretty obvious! The deal doesn't say 'selected' or 'participating', it just says Telstra stores!

Tell me, do you know the ownership status of every one of these stores with a big 'T' on it??? Of course you don't, nor should you have to! As others have rightly said, the deal comes from the franchise, it is up to the franchisees to honour that deal unless otherwise clearly specified.

As I've said, nothing against the OP here, it's Telstra dicking people around; now, you might enjoy that branko, but I sure as hell don't! :p

        • @Stewballs - you're still negging a Telstra deal for an issue beyond their control, champ. They're hardly 'dicking people around' if it is stores which are beyond their control that aren't playing ball. The sales person 'clearly specified' their status but you still didnt comprende. You dont hate on Apple for what their licenced stores (cf Apple owned stores) might do. Comprende?

Hope you got your cathartic release, but you're bitching about nothing.

EDIT: And you can check on http://www.telstra.com.au/shoplocator/index.cfm which stores are Telstra stores, and which are merely Telstra licenced. There is even a disclaimer which states that "Prices at Telstra Licensed Shops may differ to prices at Telstra Shops and Telstra Shop Online. "

        • -3

@branko, you've got no idea mate, you've completely missed the point of the comments and the neg! It would've been revoked by the mods or the crowd if it wasn't valid for starters; and there wouldn't be so many positive votes on my comments either if that was the case!

I'm not always right, and these guys are usually more than happy to neg the hell out of me when I'm just being petulant; but it seems there's some consensus here!!! At what point do you realise that you're the one taking issue without reasonable cause???

It seems you need to read the guidelines for voting buddy!

You sound a bit upset though, here's my prescription…take two spoonfuls of cement & HTFU! Have a nice day! :D

        • -1

@StewBalls - Imagine if you'd taken your medicine and hardened up in the first place, you wouldnt have come on here to bitch.

Dreadfully sorry about your 'tough week'. A top day to you too :D

        • -3

LOL, I'm actually starting to like you branko! It sounds like the cement is working too…you must've got the 'forte'! :)

        • If the store phone number is listed on Telstra website as 039xxxxxx then its a franchisee cause I was refused and said that they bought the Galaxy Tab at a more expensive price so they cant sell it for $299. However if the store phone number is 131800 then its a Telstra Store (not agent).

However, you don't see any difference when you walk into the store. They all look the same and even the shop assistant doesn't know any difference. However, the Telstra Stores are usually nicer than the Telstra franchisees.

        • -2

          @4iedemon,

Careful dude, you'll soon have to endure the irony of branko hypocritically whinging about you being a whinger! Actually, I suspect he may work for a franchisee, that would account for his dogmatic views! :p

I read your other post too; jeez, talk about the run-around! IMHO; and it seems I'm not alone in this; most reasonable people would agree that you shouldn't have to second guess the ownership of any chain store!

If they wanna wear the shiny tin sheriff badge, they should be prepared to put on the cowboy hat & boots too! ;)

    • +7

"Exeunt" is only used when more than one character leave. In your case it would just be "exit".

      • -1

There's probably a raft of mental health professionals that would disagree with you on that one! ;)

        • Wow, my gags are not being well received ATM…perphaps they're a little esoteric! ;)

For those that may have misinterpreted, that was directed at myself, suggesting I may have Dissociative Identity Disorder (once called multiple personalities)…I wasn't for one second suggesting stellaoriens was loony (not that we can discount that hypothesis as yet)…is it funnier now? :p

  • I was at Telstra shop in Broadway,NSW (for other reason) and the price for the Tab was $408. So I don't think is every store

  • Getting one right now for $299 at knox vic!

  • +1

All these stupid T-shop having different price & attitude reminds me of F%@K|^& Hardly Normal … which is a nightmare !!!

  • should i get one cause its 299 or should i wait for the samsung 10.1?
gosh this is killing me, prices are about $500 different but they say this OS isn't made for tablets whereas the 10.1 honeycomb is.

some are just getting it cause its cheap.

    • +13

So whats your point? This is OZBARGAIN.. not, OZUsefulness..!

      • LOL :D

    • Well u can wait 6 months to 1 year from the time 10.1 is launched then the price will drop and you can snap a bargain like this one :) How do you know it's $500 diff? The price hasn't been announced yet? 10.1v is the way lamer version of 10.1 please don't compare those two.

      • @andri77 the price HAS been announced http://vodafone.com.au/personal/android/tablets/android-tabl…
its AUD729 outright with 6G prepaid data… or you can go on plan. it is exclusive to Vodafone.
The difference is, however, AUD420, not 500.
Motorola Xoom is coming to Telstra around May as per announcement today http://www.theage.com.au/digital-life/tablets/xoom-launch-be…

        • Hi,

Yes $729 is for 10.1v not exactly 10.1 which will be released around July/August along with 8.9 version which is only $469 USD for 16GB.

        • That's the 10.1v. The newer 10.1 is thinner than the ipad 2.

      • -3

I've heard rumours that whether you go 7" or 10" for your pr0n depends on the colour of the 'tablet'! :p

        • -4

Wow, I didn't realise that gag would offend so many insecure people…sorry (little) guys! ;)

        • LOL - I just read this.

Dear SB, this is going 2b our little secret: (talkin in a very low voice) I think Ozmod working for chinese gov :P

        • our little secret

Lol, I see what you did there! ;)

  • Telstra in Broadmeadows said it was $406. Told me to go to another store and buy it there.

    • hard to argue with that logic.

  • This is an outright price. But is it still telstra branded, with all the telstra menus etc or just the plain generic ones?

  • there is stock at 400 George Street. and yes, it is for $299. clearly displayed on the counter.

i just picked one up 5 minutes ago.

[edit: price paid included for completeness]

  • Just picked one up from the Telstra Hay St. store in Perth. They have them on the counter with a $299 sign.

  • good price for a tablet using android and with access to marketplace. Im still waiting for the blackberry playbook's release here :D

  • No Stock - Telstra Shop, Hornsby NSW

      yes,there is

      • +4

  • Got one from Burwood westfield Telstra shop. And yes its not a franchise.

    • Did I tell you guys that I am among "Les Miserables" who placed online order on Saturday. Finally had to cancel and buy from the shop. -ve for Telstra

      • I ordered yesterday and got shipping confirmation today.

I'm guessing it's based on which local store the order is sent to.

  • +3

City Cross Arcade, South Australia sold out (was priced at $299)

Grenfell St store still had them listed at $408. I played with the one on display there and this very ozbargain page was up so I assume another ozbargainer had already had an argument with them about it!

    • haha Who was it?!?! Wasnt me.
      Howd the argument go?

  • Castle plaza, SA has stock (Sorry I forgot to ask how many are left) I got one a 5:20PM today after work for $299

Now I just have to cancel my online order which I ordered saturday morning and wont come for TWO flappin weeks!

  • Is this a temporery reduction or permanent reduction? can anyone advise please? Thank you :)

    • +3

Considering the new models coming in, it's likely a "while stocks last" sale.

      That's just a guess though.

  • how would you say this stacks up against ipad 1? (reading/web browsing)

  • Carindale qld has no stock. Was told to go to jb cause they will price match, but they didnt have stock either.

Jb said they have 10 units coming in soon at $299.

Put my name down, and they will give a call they arrive.

  • I ordered my tablet on Saturday and it arrived today. I am in Sydney so I don't understand how people are saying they have to wait 2 weeks for it.

  • Saw this post, got one at 299 after work from the Telstra shop on Queen St Brisbane CBD, the one near Hungry Jack's. I rang up first before I went to make sure they had stock. There were still about 10 left when I left before they close at 5.30pm. Should try your luck tomorrow morning if you are around there and want one. First brush with a Telstra shop, service was good and prompt.

  • any speculation about the 7" price drop in the near future ie next month ?

  • It will be $250 by the end of the month if they dun run out of stock…

    • +1

what a marketing genius, why not make it $10 when they run out

      LOL

    • Yep, thats why I'm holding on not to get one now, also imagine Optus starts selling their stock for much less after easter, bet that ppl will hate Telstra much much more …

  • I will wait for another drop :P

  • Tried to get one at North Sydney Today but has Sold Out. Getting new stock in tomorrow but he already said there was a holding list so be quick. He confirmed that they were $299ea

  • +1

I feel this deal should not be listed as a separate bargain/deal. The OP of the other deal (Telstra) should get the votes. It is better to amend the other post, rather than having this post.

Also, it was already mentioned in the comments of the other post that Telstra Retail shops started selling the tablet for $299 last Saturday. People did not feel the need to post a separate deal at that time. What changed? Generally, if you do this kind of things on OzBargain, the new posts get removed.

Most people ordered online get theirs delivered in 2 business days. Some even get theirs delivered in 1 business day.

    • +2

      Oh here we go again…
Firstly, how does it really matter who gets the votes.. Not like we can cash in on them.. This website is for the benefit of consumers and that is exactly what this post is doing..
The other post has 7 pages of comments and its impossible to keep track.

Secondly, the Rep knew long before any of us did that these would go on sale in store, but still nothing was ever mentioned. He obviously is part of the Online Marketing team and wanted to benefit from the online sales only.

Also, I went to 2 Telstra shops yesterday and they did not have the $299 signs, So the signs were only put up this morning.

Anyways, can a Mod please comment if this neg is justified.

      • Come on… read your own post.. it starts with "Same as …".

Also, with the other post, you could get responses from Telstra rep.

As a first time poster, I certainly expect you to post a brand new deal, rather than a deal which was basically an slight update of another deal.

Besides, as I mentioned, people already knew about it and they did not post a new one like you - which means there are people who feel it does not require another posting.

Give Telstra rep the credit. The original deal may lose positive votes because of this. Basically, I voted negative because this post is impacting the chance of the other one getting a really good positive score. The Telstra rep helped people with their orders and questions. He deserves to get a good high postive score. Let's not take postive votes away from him.

What would you feel if someone did this to you? Telstra rep commented on this post to help out an question regarding an online purchase - not about this deal (think about it). So now he has to check 2 posts instead of just 1.

thats giving the telstra rep credit!

you might want to browse the voting guidelines, and why are you so eager to see the first post get a higher vote count, than any other?

What would you feel if someone did this to you? Telstra rep commented on this post to help out an question regarding an online purchase - not about this deal (think about it). So now he has to check 2 posts instead of just 1.

dupe threads pop up all the time, it brings an online sense of community, when were browsing and commenting on these threads as there posted, and really, the telstra rep has to check posts on 2 threads? awww diddums

    • +1

whats wrong with voting in both threads? or is that too difficult for you?

if you feel this is a duplicate, you should report it to the mods as a duplicate thread and they will take what action they feel they should, negative votes for such silly reasons run the risk of having member miss the deals because they have been buried. Now what if i missed the other thread? what if i dont want to wait for delivery? There are always going to be people that try and get online deals at a store. and there are plenty of deals that are online that eventually appear here as in store too.

      • -3

I don't want to vote twice for effectively the same deal.

Honestly, the reasons this thread survive are (1) people don't want to wait 2 days for the online deal (2) Telstra still has lots of these in stock. If Telstra managed to clear most of the stock on the weekend via online, and only a very small number of units remain for the shops, I am quite sure this thread will not survive.

The main issue for me is I have found issues with this device that I would like to point them out to people (wireless N / WPA2-AES stability problem, apps on SD card problem). I don't want to do this to TWO threads - coz. that's duplicate commenting.

Also, have you noticed people asking Online deal related question here? A lot of people who voted postive in the other deal are kind enough not to vote negative on this thread (probably because they really like the $299 deal or just being kind). Don't take that as the right thing to do repeatedly.

Lastly, I also tried querying shops on the weekend. The non-CBD shops I went to basically flat out refused to sell at $299.

So.. now.. if one of the shops decided to drop the price from $408 to $299, do I get to post another thread?

        • You know you can link to both the thread and comments right?

  • +1

They should give these away free with any ice cream purchase!

  • -5

+1, a grab for free votes. This was already mentioned in the other post by numerous comments.
