Good Gym shoes other than the fact it is Ugg as!!!

  • As someone that struggles with a 2 plate squat, I don't feel like I've earned the right to purchase these.

    • +2

they will most likely help your squat.

    • +2

The amount of weight you lift has no bearing on whether you should buy these. If the equipment allows you to be in a better biomechanical position to lift the weight (making the lift safer), then you should buy it.

I typically stick around 100-120kg squat but as I've had a syndesmosis injury to one of my ankles, I've lost a lot of flexibility through it and my Nike Romaleos help me squat much better and eliminate the need for me to put plates under my heals.

      • I agree with this, I however find that squat shoes favour high bar squatting, I always low bar squat in chucks and don't know if these will benefit me. I'll experiment with some plates under my heels before I purchase a pair.

You're right. Shoes like this compensate for a lack of dorsiflexion whether that's because of general mobility or because of an injury. Low bar doesn't require as much dorsiflexion so the only reason you'd get shoes like this is if the stable base makes the lift feel better. Plates under the heels isn't really a fair test because it will leave half your foot coming out of contact with the ground which means you have less of a stable base, and from what you're saying you don't need a boost to your ankle mobility. As far as lifting shoes go these are pretty cheap so they'd be ok to test the waters with.

      • How did you get that injury? Sounds painful

        • Playing footy (AFL)

Lolwuht stop with the self depreciation. It's a bloody shoe (not even the top of the range adipowers).

Wear what you want train however you want.

  • Shoes for weightlifting, does that mean they are hopeless for running in?

    • +3

      Yes

    • Yeah so you should change to running shoes then a pair of killer crocs for shower.

    • +3

      Horrible for running in.

Which is good, protects your gains from that nasty cardio.

  • The site advised this shoe run small? Anyone can confirm this? Should I get 1 size bigger or true to size?
    Also is this US sizing?

  • These are not nearly as good as the romaleos or even a pair of Do-wins from aliexpress. They dont have as much support.

    • Can you elaborate on this please? Do you mean these dont have as much heel lift as the nikes?

Would love to hear your review of these.

      • +1

Heel isn't made of wood or the same type of hard plastic of the Romaleos. On heavier lifts or over time, the heel can compress.
Also the heel isn't that high, which may not be an issue depending on the individual. These aren't even as high as the top of the line Adidas lifting shoe which has a heel height similar to that of the Romaleos.
Quality isn't that great either but it's being sold for $75 so you can't cry too much. I think I'd personally go for a pair of Do-Win shoes over these but some people think Adidas > something they've never heard of.

        • Thanks mate. I was hoping for a large heal elevation on these, as this is what I need. Might have to return if thats the case.

Shame the Romaleos are 3 times the price!

          • @datzed: If you're willing to go used, sometimes you can find Romaleo 2s on eBay or Gumtree for around $100. They may not come with both insoles (in the 2s you get a training and competition insole; the competition insole is harder and is normally what people use all the time) but if you can find one with the competition insole then it's a steal.

  • awesome shoes, been squatting in mine for over 2 years

Helps my squat and keeps my feet planted to the ground like glue

  • +1

Nothin like a pair of well fitted converse

  • please note: "Order at least 1 size larger than your usual size."

  • Bought. Thanks OP.

  • Ahhh! I bought the Nike Metcon 4 just at Xmas.

    • Metcons are probably more comfortable to wear cos they're a general lifting shoe. Not as stable of a platform but I personally prefer the practicality of not having to change shoes if I'm not squatting/deadlifting.

  • Only buy these to improve lack of ankle mobility…

    • +1

Jeez the negging on here is savage.

This wont help you imrpove ankle mobility, but it will help you squat better by overcoming lack of ankle mobility (somewhat).

      • +2

Yeah thats what i meant.. I always cringe when i see people squatting with their heels on plates… Even worse when trainers tell them to do it

  • Thanks just grabbed a pair - also use code ADISHIPPING for free shipping!

  • Any advantage using these over sock-only deadlifts and squats?

    • Yea a bit late but thought I'd chime in with my own 2c. For squats I think yes and for deadlifts, it depends.
For squat this compensates for a lack of ankle mobility. It will allow you to get a deeper squat and will have a different muscle loading compared to just socks.
For deadlifts, lower to the is better to reduce the range of motion so you can lift more so this is a no unless you want the extra range of motion to make the exercise more difficult.
There are lots of youtube videos by different people about both exercises in heeled shoes which you can check out

  • Perfect fit true to size.
