Woolies have em at this price this week

    • +3

It's pretty common for Woolies and Coles to take turns.

      • +2

        Sounds dirty.

Get in quick for the Dulce De Lache flavour. My local Woolies sold out of that one quickly.

        • Dirty deeds…

    • Local woolies didn't have any for sale

  • -4

If you've ever tried Messina, you'll be disappointed.

    • -6

I dare you to say that in front of a Sicilian…

        That's racist Kerry-Anne.

@myusername: Yumi is an idiot ideologue who doesn't know the definition of the term 'racist'.

    • +5

Pretty sure @irajohn90 is saying that these drumsticks don't measure up to real Messina.

    cones

Just had one but thanks anyway.

    They are horrible

    • compared to?

I bought the hazelnut ones last week… Creamier than a normal drumstick. Quite nice.

I won't be buying them again though, not because I don't like them, but because I have no self control.

    • +2

Agree, the vanilla ones were much creamier too. But they are a sometimes treat!

      • Indeed, and for that reason I'd never buy drumsticks, but I was taken by the pretty box! (and to a lesser extend the 50% off).

  • +3

Thanks! None to be had this last week at my local Woolies :(

  • what flavour would you guys recommend?

    • I grabbed a few boxes when they were on sale from Woolies. I liked the mango one the most.

Bought a box of each flavour last week and ranked them with my husband, we decided:

Gold: Hazelnut - Easy favourite for both of us, and we thought it was considerably better than all other flavours.
Silver: Dulce De Luche - Yummy, creamy
Bronze: Vanilla and Mango - Vanilla tasted like a better regular vanilla drumstick; Mango was dissapointing, sorbet is usually my favourite thing in the world, but it just didn't tickle my pickle.

      • I've just tried the Mango and Coconut. Quiet similar to the Weis version but not as good.

  • +2

Don't buy then they don't taste very nice.

    • Have you tasted all 4 flavours?

      • +2

I agree with dlakers3peat. The dulce de leche is the pick of the bunch for me … but it is just an icecream with a small drizzle of caramel. Nothing amazing.

        • I thought the Dulce was diabetes in a cone. The caramel made it oppressively sweet.

Or maybe my palette has changed. I've been putting a lot less sugar in my drinks (or no sugar at all) and maybe I've gotten used to low sugar.

  • I think Coles only started stocking them this week. Quick to discount!

    • +2

been there for a couple weeks in some stores

    • All new products have an introductory discount like this.

I've only tried the Dulce De Luche and it was REALLY good. Will defo grab a box of hazelnut next. Thanks OP and sh0psh0psh0p.

    Fat bastard checking in.
Public Service Announcement: I have tried a few of the flavours, and quite frankly, I haven’t been that impressed.
Considering the reputation Messina have, I walked away thinking it was just the same quality as any other Cornetto icecream.

That said, at $5 for a box of four, it’s a good value summer treat, evidenced by the fact that I’ve just smashed another one.

I like the Vanilla Bean and Peanut Praline the best. Mango was really average, so was Dulce De Leche (way too sweet). I won't be buying anymore, they just aren't that great and you are better off buying a tub of ice cream on special.

    • IMO the Vanilla Bean and Peanut Praline variety is basically a regular drumstick just with sugar coating on the peanut bits.

      • +2

It was much creamier, that is what I liked about it. They're all super average compared to real gelato. Even at $5 value is questionable.

      • +1

That's how it tasted to me. But the vanilla was less dense than the regular one, and more airy (creamy?). I prefer the original though. Did not like the sugar coating on the nuts.

  • The ice cream within the drumstick itself is of much better quality. If people just like the cheap stuff, get the cheap stuff (I need to remember what site I'm on)…

  • The dulce one is crap!

  • I'd pick Weis over Mango and Coconut (it tastes weird combination). I personally like the original drumstick's classic vanilla. Messina x drumstick is a big no no!

  • Do yourself a favour and grab the hazelnut, yum!!

  • I tried Vanilla Bean and Dulce de Leche.

Vanilla bean wasn't bad, but not worth the premium over the classic range. Dulce was just too sweet.

I will try the other two later.

    • Just tried Mango and Coconut. Don't like.

A bit too sweet. The coconut is dessicated sprinkles.

      Doesn't beat a Weiss bar.

After I've tried all 4 (Hazelnut is the last one), I can't see myself buying them again, even at $5. I would rather buy the Vanilla for $4.

  • picked up a few from woolies special. pretty disappointing for a messina product, and agree, the mango one sucks compared to weis. hazelnut is probably the best of all flavours. but its worth to give it a go at this price.

  • Not impressed. Should not have the word gelato on the box, it's more of a glorified Peter's drumstick. Whilst the hazelnut itself is quite nice, the rest of the ice cream isn't a big deal. Definitely not worth $10 a box, even at $5… It's questionable.

  • bloody hell my local coles has already sold out of the hazelnut and dulce de leche.
